FEATURES OF TU RBOCHARGER AND SUPERCHARGER


The turbocharger and the supercharger are both a
kind of air pump, wh ich force the intake air into
the cyl inders to inc rease its density. The pressure

HOW TO INCREASE FUEL INJ ECTION VO LUM E


Even w ith a turbocharged or supercharged engine, a fuel v olume suited to the intake air vo lum e is
required. Accor dingly, the am ount of fue l consumptio n increases in proportion to th e increase of pow er.

HINT: W ith th e engine cold, check the oil level in th e
supercha rger w ith th e dipstick .
(a) Park the vehicle on a level spot and turn the engine
off .
(b) Turn t he yellow-headed supercharger oi l level dipst ick
counte rcloc kwise and pu ll it out.
(c) W ipe the dipsti ck clean wit h a rag.
Painted yellow (d) Rein sert t he dipst ick. Turn it fu lly clockw ise or t he
reading w ill not be correct.
(e) Remove th e dipst ick aga in and look at t he oil level on
t he end.
(f) The oil level sho uld be betw een the " L" and " F"
marks on th e dipstick.
If low , check for leakage and add oil up to the " F" mark as
follow s:
(g) Ad d supercha rge r oil though the dipsti ck tube using a
viny l tube and syringe.

(e) A pply battery volta ge between th e term inals of th e
connector, and measure the amount of axial move-
ment of the clutch hub.
NOTE: Take measurements starti ng f rom the second or
third time the cl utch hub is operated.
(d) M easure the ot her three locat ions using t he same
met hod. Take the average value for th e fou r locat ions
and use it as the air gap value.
NOTE: W hen measuring, check that the matchmarks for
the pulley and d utch hub are al igned.
Standard air gap: 0 .35 - 0 .65 mm
(0 .0138 - 0 .0256 ;n.)
If th e air gap is not within specif ication, replace t he shim.
