The case of cosmetics:

are they safe?
One episode of Kapuso Mo Jessica Soho, showed a case of a girl named Shayren who got her lips irritated and she suspected that it was
because of the lip tint that she used. The lip tint that she purcahsed is from her friend who got it for her Christmas gift. The price of the
lip tint is 40 pesos and it also doesn’t have a seal. It turns out that the lip tint she used is already contaminated with bacteria because it
doesn’t have a seal, therefore, her lips got infected and irritate.

She also doesn’t have the right to complain about what happened because it doesn’t have a label and information means that the
Food And Drugs Administration (FDA) doesn’t support the product, therefore, it is not their responsibty.

Cosmetics are becoming staple in our daily lives. From shampoos, skin cleanser, cologne, lotion, makeups, and etc. We put them to
our body to improve how we look and be attractive to look at.

One of the popular cosmetic products among students is the lip tints. Unlike lipsticks, Lip tints are lighter and perfect for achieving a natural
shade. The price of a branded lip tint can cost from around 100 pesos to 300 depending on the brand. We may buy them on generic stores and
malls kioks. However, there are bootleg version available which are much cheaper than the original. One can get instant red lips for as low
as 30 peso. Stores selling these types of lip tints are like mushrooms appearing around palengke, bangketa and etc.

Mostly cheaper lip tints are unbranded. Many of them did not pass the quality and safety check of the Food And Drugs Administra-
tion (FD. Fake cosmetic product may not be safe for someone to use, it might cause harm and irritates someone’s skin or body if used.
An unsealed cosmetic product can be contaminated with bacteria, therefore, it is really not recommended for use.

Concepcion Integrated School’s rules and regulations for students prohibits the students to wear lip tints during ordinary school
days - with exemptions during special occasions. Yet, many don’t know or don’t bother to follow the ordinance. It’s not really to no-
tice these students. You’ll see school girls flaunting their bloody-red lips during break time or a gabby student in your class. Their odd
looking lips reminds me of a mascot from a popular food chain. It’s a fad among teens nowadays that it’s really difficult to discourage
them from using it.

If it’s really unavoidable or if the social pressure is really hard to turn down, it’s good to know some checkers on how to choose your
cosmetics and to check if your lip tint or any cosmetic products is unsafe.

It is really important to be aware of the cosmetic products that we use because it might bring any harm and danger to us. We must always
check and make sure that the cosmetic products that we use are safe. Even though a cosmetic product is a little bit expensive or cheap, we should
always look and think about how safe it is to use not on how expensive or cheap a cosmetic product is.

Inquiry in Science
Education: Perspectives
In a developing country like the Philippines, Science literacy—

Ten years after typhoon Ondoy submerged the town in flood

about hundred delegates from different public schools and officers
of General Parents-Teachers Association of Marikina participated
in the tree-planting event inaugurated at the Marikina River Park
- organized by the local government.

Mayor Marcy Teodoro encourages everyone present to make it

a hobby to plant trees since trees can hinder the distructive effect
of flood.

Marikenos are called to give their commitment to building

disaster-resilient and healthy communities to adapt to the rapid
changing global climate as the town marks the 10th anniversary of
the onslaught of typhoon Ondoy that almost swallowed the whole
town.

Marikina City is one of the most affected areas during the on-
slaught of Ondoy on September 26, 2009.

Marikina City Mayor Marcy Teodoro, Representative Stella

Quimbo, vice mayor Marion Andres, and other city officials led
the activities.

On April 16, 1630, The Society of Jesus inherited the ecclesiastical control of the Marikina area and established a mission village. It was told that the Jesuits found an image of the Infant Jesus among the boulders of rocks along
the banks of the local river. Thus, on these boulders, the priests built a chapel and christened the center of the village, Jesus dela Peña (Jesus of the Rock). The site, where the Marikina Zonta Club built the Roman Garden in 1998, is
believed to be the spot where the icon of Jesus was seen. The Garden also serves as an honor to Marikina Christian residents who comprised a large number in the city. - Source https://www.vigattintourism.com/tourism/articles/

Students enjoyed the different interactive display inside: students defied the

Gloomy houses lined the street

Its windows staring blankly like hollow eye socket –
Deprived of hope and of mercy
Doors like gaping mouth of hungry predators
Probably of a starving lion.
