Introduction

One of the most important rules and regulation of an institute is the wearing of

proper uniform inside the school. The benefits that it gives only signify how disciplined a student

can be. All throughout these years, school uniforms have been part of a student’s life within their

journey. Furthermore, school uniform does not only indicate a student’s look but it also help in

their school performances. . It is immediately set each student at an equal platform when

entering the school which creates equality among students regardless of year or semester.

Regardless of student’s financial situation—they are all dressed the same while uniform and

deportment expectation are equal throughout each semester and year. Wearing proper uniform

does not only consist of wearing it correctly rather as to be respectful and responsible students

as for being professional. According to the Procon.org. the first recorded use of the school

uniforms is in England in 1222. Students at one school were required to wear a robe-like outfit

called a ‘cappa clausa’. However it wasn’t until 16th century that modern school uniforms made

an appearance in recorded history. For example, Procon.org. notes that students at the prestigious

college were required to wear a blacktop hat as their uniform up until 1972.

Statement of the problem

There are always reason why every school requires a school uniform. But there will be

students who does not imply with the rules and regulation and one of these are the students who

does not wear the proper uniform and definitely most of the school have struggled this kind of

problem until today. There are a lot of reasons why this matter occur, although student’s are

aware of the benefits of wearing uniforms, yet they still break the rule. Despite of this

concern, knowing the real essence of wearing the proper uniform means a lot to the institute,

indeed a pleasure and great respect must be shown for it is the one that greatly help to succeed in

life.

Objectives of the study

This research tackles about students wearing proper uniform and here are some

objectives:

 To look more formal

It’ll be more recognizable as a student when wearing uniform and it

does make a student look professional as if we know where we should be.

 To easily recognize the school

Uniform of a school serves as a trademark of pride that should be

appreciated. Once a student is wearing their uniform, they could limit themselves

in doing repulsive things and it also show how discipline a student can be.

 To show unity

A school with all students wearing their complete uniform expresses

adequate and more professional look. Indicating that a school has unity and

students are disciplined.

Hypothesis of the study

What are the benefits of wearing a school uniform? Of course this shows the unity of an

institute, self-discipline for the students, and school uniform prevents individualism.

Equally important, it reduces unwanted distractions to students. Lastly, school uniforms make a

student look clean and tidy and could also be the symbolism of the school. Summing up, there is

no reason for a student not to wear their school uniforms.

Significance of the study

This study aims for the better results of students wearing their proper uniform, as have

been noted school uniforms are being advocated for a range of social, educational, economic,

and familial reasons. Evidently, school uniforms are not just to show profession but to advocate

such goals that could definitely help not just to people, and also to students. With this, school

uniforms can help students see their potential as they dream of their aspirations in life, wearing

their dream uniforms someday. Uniforms could be the way for a student to pursue and endeavor

their ambitions as they continue their journeys of today.

Teachers

It limits the relationship of the students and teachers by means of students wearing their

uniform. Because there are circumstances regarding the age of the teachers that sometimes only

differ a student’s age for some year that could lead to too much closeness to the teacher which is

unnecessary. With this, school uniform of students as well as the teachers could show huge

difference.

School

It serves as the indication of the institute. Effective schools have several similar

characteristics, of which a positive school climate is one. This states the positive effect of school

uniforms in a school that surprisingly changes the school’s aura. Indeed, this could help students

prevent some distractions within the school.

Parents

As for parents the importance of school uniforms shows how neat and clean a child can

be. As we all know parents want the best for their children and one of these is when their

children wear their school uniforms as if they’re young professionals. As a matter of fact, parents

know the significance of school uniforms as if they see their children becoming more successful

in life.

Social significance

A student’s world does not only involve in the four corners of the room but they also

involve outside the school together with other people. Uniforms are often define in terms of

costumes-such as denoting similar appearance, distinctiveness of a group or uniformity. While in

terms of school days, days where uniforms are required, it differs them to workers, civilian from

students.

Scope and Delimitation

The scope and delimitation of this study tackles about students who wear their complete

uniform inside or outside of the school, moreover the factors that involves the reasons of

students for not following the rule, either positive or negative when it comes to the days of

wearing complete uniform.

Scope

This study tackles how and why or is it really important to wear proper uniform. This

research will conduct survey and observation about behavior of the students in AMACC

Pampanga as our main basis. Including asking professionals about their idea on implementing

proper uniform and how it will affect the students’ behavior in class

Delimitation

In wearing the proper uniform, it can teach us on how to become clean to our body. We

should always do the right thing, because it is a must to follow simple rules in school, by just

wearing of the proper uniform, surely help and show that it is what a responsible student does.

When other students saw a student wearing uniform, it encourages them to become a good

follower to the simple rule.

Definition of terms

Uniform

- Clothes worn by students primarily for school.

School

- An institution where students learns/educates.

Rules and regulation

- The exertions of rules by a teacher or the school organization towards a student (or group
of students).

- Directions which students needs to follow inside the school.

- A person who is studying at a school.

Review of Related literature and studies

The content of this chapter are the review of related literature and studies including:

foreign literature, foreign study and local study to emphasize the point of this research through

reviewing related studies.

Related Literature

Foreign

Stacey L. Gregory (2013) in her article entitled “Perceptions of High School Students of

the Impact of a School Uniform Policy”. Gregory conducted a study about the impact of school

uniforms to high school students. Gregory first said, the impact of school uniforms to parochial

schools and thereupon the government saw the good effect of school uniforms specifically to

students’ academic performance. Then within two decades, public schools have decided to

implement the school uniform policy. Stacy also differentiate high school students from

elementary aged students, whereas high school students are far more from elementary aged

students, it is because of the academic achievement, increase of attendance and decrease of

behavioral problems because of school uniform policy, compare to the result of high school

students with the school uniform policy. Furthermore, Gregory also cited the advantages of

uniform policy, proponents of the uniform policy believe that if everyone in a school dresses

alike, or at least dresses similarly, there will be a decrease in behavioral problems, an increase in

learning and academic achievement, and an improvement in the school climate.

Related Study

Foreign

Todd A. DeMitchell (2015) in his study entitled “does wearing a school uniform improve

student behavior?” conducted a study about the effects of school uniforms in different aspects in

the school. DeMitchell stated, wearing a uniform can decrease the risk of violence, and theft,

instill discipline and help school officials recognize intruders who come to the school.

The study focuses on the dress codes of different schools and what school uniform policy

has done to an institute whether positive or not. Whereas, one school in DeMitchell’s home state;

Pinkerton Academy, a private secondary school protests about uniform dress code. Nevertheless,

DeMitchell demonstrates the mixed impact of school uniform, where in DeMitchell conducted

few survey about the effects of school uniforms in different institute. His study about the mixed

impact of school uniform resulted to different outcomes; some did not result in any change in

the number of suspensions. By contrast, other school specifically middle schools or high schools

concluded that there is a significant increase in suspensions. However, the impact of school

uniform policy really help school organizations, students and also improving student’s academic

achievement, discipline and behavior. As DeMitchell said, educators must be clear about the

goals that they hope to achieve with mandating school uniforms.

Local

Marcaida et al. in their article about school uniforms being implemented in the

Philippines, they noted that school uniform makes people recognize who students are or not.

Uniformity, pleasing in the eyes and the distinctiveness of an individual can also be seen.

Marcaida et al. present a question from business.inquirer.net asking: why do we have to wear

school uniforms? The question was answered by frenchtoast.com and elaborated by the authors;

uniform take the competition out of dress, school uniforms keep the focus in learning, not

clothing and one major reason is the student who felt uncomfortable going to school because

others made fun of the way the look and dress feels more at ease. Consequently, they stated that

uniform policy in the United States of America resulted lot of positive outcome which can be the

same here in the Philippines.

Chapter III

Research Methodology

Research design

This study will adopt the qualitative research. The researchers will conduct an interview

to selected participants to gather information. With this research method, the researchers will

provide clear and correct information, reliable and secure information, data that are necessary to

evaluate the problem of the study.

Participants

The participants of this study will focus on senior high students of AMA Computer

College CSFP. The respondents will only be the 10% of the total population of officially enrolled

students for the Second Semester (SY. 2018-2019)

Instruments

The researchers will ask the participants a set of well-constructed questions and gather

the necessary data among the selected sample from the target population from the senior high

students of AMA Computer College CSFP.

Data Gathering procedure

The researchers first constructed the set of clear questions for the participants, afterwards

the researchers constructed the questionnaires for more accurate results. Following this, the letter

of approval to be approved by Ms. Rosielyn Bautista. In brief, after the interview of the

participants, transcribing the answers of the respondents for accurate words. Lastly, analyzing

the respondent’s answers implying it to the study.

Sampling Techniques

Simple random sampling technique is what the researchers used for this study, it is a

significant technique for the researchers for them to execute the interview easily with the senior

high students of AMA Computer College CSFP.

This chapter shows the analysis and presented the data gathering procedure during the

interview conducted by the researchers among the 15 selected senior high students that serves as

the sample target population.

The researchers will provide the summary or/and interpretation of the answers of the 15

participants in each question.

Question 1: As a student, what is the importance of wearing school uniform?

15 participants interviewed had different answers: 3 of them said it is a rule, 4 of the

participants answered that wearing uniform is important because it is decent to see. And the rest

of them said that the importance of wearing uniform is that students represent the school, 3

answered it is important because a student is recognized, to know from what school and

responsibility.

Question 2: What is the most significant effect of wearing school uniform to the school?

5 out of 15 participants answered that the most significant effect of school uniform to

school is the institute is being recognized/identified. While 4 of the participants said that uniform

serves as the representation of the school. And the rest of the participants said different answers

such as following the rules, shows the hard study, it is important because it’s a student’s

responsibility, and it is formal to see.

Question 3: How does school uniform help students’ academic performance?

4 of the participants answered that uniform does not help in academic performance at all.

They even add comments like uniform does not have any connection with the academic

performance of students. But 6 of the participants agreed that school uniform help in the

academic performance such as it boosts self-esteem, uniform are comfortable, and with uniform,

students can get incentives. Also uniform presents that a student is respected. The rest of the

answers are; school uniform helps in the proper attire of the school, students should well-behave

when wearing uniform, identified from what school and if a student is not in uniform it makes

him/her different.

Question 4: What are the benefits of wearing school uniform to students?

5 out of 15 participants answered looking clean/decent is the benefit that school uniform

give to students. While 3 of the participants said that the benefit of school uniform gives them

discounts in public transportations. 3 of the answers; they are being identified from what school

they’re from. And the rest of the answers are, students will not be scolded by the teachers, shows

discipline, one answered that there is no benefit at all, and it is comfortable.

Question 5: How does school uniform affect students’ behavior inside the school?

The participants showed different responses. 3 of them said that the behaviors of students

when wearing uniform inside the school act like professionals and they are worthy to be

respected while 3 of the responses said that when wearing school uniform students should

behave. And 2 answered when wearing uniform it makes them proud and the rest; 2 of the

participants said it has nothing to do with the behavior, expresses their self, shows implying to

the rules, one said if a student is not wearing uniform he/she could do whatever they want and

when wearing school uniform they’ll probably not get scolded by the teachers.
