SIZE:
Directions are for infant to 3 months.
MATERIALS:
• LION BRAND Jiffy (Art. 450),
5 balls #157 Pastel Yellow or
color of your choice. (Note: Jiffy
multi-colors and Heather Blue
come in 2.5 oz. balls. All other
colors in 3 oz. balls.
• Crochet hook size J - 10 U.S.
(4 U.K.) (6.00 mm) OR SIZE
TO OBTAIN PROPER GAUGE.
• Approx 6” of Velcro tape for closing.
GAUGE:
12 sts and 14 rows sc = 4”. TO INSURE PROPER
SIZE, BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.
STITCH EXPLANATION:
To Dec 1 sc: (Insert hook in next st, yo, draw yarn
through st) twice, yo, draw yarn through 3 loops on
hook. To Dec 2 sc: Sl st across 2 sc to be decreased.
BACK:
(Note: Foll outer edge of chart for Back shaping.)
Right Leg: Ch 4. Row 1 (RS): Sc in 2nd ch from hook
and in each ch across -- 3 sc. Row 2: Ch 4, sc in 2nd
ch from hook, sc in each of next 2 ch (3-st inc made),
sc in each of next 3 sc -- 6 sc. Row 3: Sc in each of
next 6 sc, using a separate strand of yarn ch 3 and
continue working 1 sc in each of these 3 ch (3-st inc
made) -- 9 sc. Row 4: Ch 4, sc in 2nd ch from hook,
sc in each of next 2 ch (3-st inc made), sc in each of
next 9 sc -- 12 sc. Row 5: Dec 1 sc in first 2 sc, sc in
each of next 10 sc, using a separate strand of yarn
ch 3 and continue working 1 sc in each of these 3 ch
(3-st inc made) -- 14 sc. Row 6: Inc 1 sc in first sc,
sc in each sc across -- 15 sc. Row 7: Dec 1 sc in first
2 sc, sc in each sc across, inc 1 sc in last sc -- 15 sc.
Row 8: Inc 1 sc in first sc, sc in each sc across -- 16
sc. Row 9: Dec 1 sc in first 2 sc, sc in each sc across,
inc 1 sc in last sc -- 16 sc. Row 10: Inc 1 sc in first sc,
sc in each sc across -- 17 sc. Row 11: Dec 1 sc in first
2 sc, sc in each sc across, inc 1 sc in last sc -- 17 sc.
Row 12: Inc 1 sc in first sc, sc in each sc across --
18 sc. Row 13: Dec 1 sc in first 2 sc, sc in each sc
across, inc 1 sc in last sc -- 18 sc. Row 14: Inc 1 sc
in first sc, sc in each sc across -- 19 sc. Row 15: Dec
1 sc in first 2 sc, sc in each sc across, inc 1 sc in last
sc -- 19 sc. Lay work aside.

Left Leg: Ch 4. Row 1 (WS): Sc in 2nd ch from hook
and in each ch across -- 3 sc. Rows 2-15: Cont in sc,
foll Back Left Leg chart for shaping working as for
Right Leg but reversing shaping. Ch 10 for crotch and
join Back Right Leg with sl st to Back Left Leg -- 48 sc.
Break yarn. Join yarn with sl st to side edge and cont
foll outer edge only of chart for Back shaping, working
incs and decs as shown (ignore any shaping lines
within chart) through Row 87. Fasten off.
RIGHT FRONT:
Beg with Right Leg as on Back and work through
Row 15. Ch 10 at inside of Right Leg for crotch,
then work Row 16 over 29 sts. Foll chart from
side (outer) edge as est to the line indicated for
Right Front opening (ignore chart lines for Left Front
opening). On Row 53, beg shaping of face opening
as indicated. Work until chart Row 68 has been
completed. Fasten off.
LEFT FRONT:
Beg with Left Leg as on Back and work through
Row 15. Ch 10 at inside of Left Leg for crotch, then
work Row 16 over 29 sts. Foll chart from side (outer)
edge as est to the line indicated for Left Front opening
(ignore chart lines for Right Front opening). On chart
Row 69, ch 4 for top of face opening and join with
a sl st to Right Front, then working in one piece
foll chart completing Rows 69-87. Fasten off.
FINISHING:
Beg at Right Front Opening as designated on chart,
join yarn with sl st and ch 1. Keeping work flat and
to gauge, work picot edge as foll *3 sc evenly spaced,
ch 3, sl st in last sc, rep from * around entire opening,
end 2 sc. Join Front to Back. With WS’s facing, position
Right Front over Left (for girl), visa versa for boy, attach
the Front to the Back with 1 row sc, working though
all thickness. Cut Velcro as needed and sew between
the two fronts. Tassel: Cut 5 strands of yarn approx 9”
long, fold 4 strands in half over the 5th; tie the 5th
with a knot, wrap 4th strand around the top of the
tassel at the knot and draw through with hook or
tapestry needle. Attach to top of star.
