Chapter 1

Background information of the study

Introduction

 Cutting classes is when you don’t attend class at which your presence is expected.We
conducted this study because this is a problem that until now it has not been resolved but
it is getting worser indeed.Cutting classes is a big hindrance for making your dreams
come true.It is a problem that every student may encounter in any moment, Moreover you
may gain happiness doing this but you may suffer the consequences.
 In Libertad National High school(LINHS) specially in senior high school are very
confiding to jump out the fences. Cutting classes are very rampant for the students
nowadays so that we want to study this specific problem.
 However this study or our study shows what makes the students to do cutting class
without thinking that what may happen in their future, they don’t know that by their
doings their teachers and parents will be the one to be affected.They should study harder
for effective learning to happen and to contribute meaningfully for a great nation for the
future.

THEORETICAL/CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK

Some researcher says that:

 According to the UNVEILING THE DARK SIDE OF EDUCATION –Cutting class


creates an undesirable habit and mindset.this mindset is the mindset of being lazy.when
you cut,you also create this habit of walking away from something you do not find
desirable.

 KENNETH DUCKWORTH /JOHN DEJUNG-they says that As High School


administrators make increasing used of computerized attendance system s,many are
discovering that selective cut class cutting ,previously unrecorded ,is rampant
(Duckworth and Dejung :1986; Duckworth 1988)

 And last but not the least According to LEWIS A. TAYLOR III he says that it was
hypothesized that cutting classes harms exam s scores and implications for professors
and students are provided,revealing that cutting classes missing pre exam reviews ,and
ignoring chapter quizzes effects are real and they matter.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The study aims to answer the following question:

1.What are the demographic profile of the respondents (Age,Gender,Grade Level)

2.What are the factors of cutting classes?

3.What are the effect of cutting classes to Senior High School Academic Performance?

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

 The importance of this study is to enlighten the students of LINHS in Senior High School
that doing cutting class is very risky for thier studies.If the students of Libertad NHS is
liable enough to face or to do what is best in her/his academic performance it will help
him/her to become success for in life not only for themselves but for their whole family
and for the succession of the community and productive nation in the future.

SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY

 The study focuses on the effects of Cutting Classes to Senior High School Students
Academic Performance.The respondents of the study are the Senior High School
Students of Libertad National High School during the first semester of the School year
2019-2020.

Definition of terms:

For clarity of ideas, the following terms are difined according to how they used in the
study:
1. Rampant-Profusely widespread/a very common
2. Self-assured- faith or belief that one will act in a right, proper, or effective
way
3. Hypothesized- : to assume or claim as true, existent, or necessary : depend
upon or start from the postulate of
4. Hindrance- the state of being interfered with, held back, or slowed down : the
state of being hindered
5. REVEALING- allowing a look at or an understanding of something inner or hidden
6. Consequences- importance with respect to power to produce an effect
7. Encounter- to come upon or experience especially unexpectedly
8. enlighten- furnish knowledge to
9. PRODUCTIVE- having the quality or power of producing especially in abundance

10.Contribute- to give or supply in common with others
