Service description: Places gang violence intervention specialists in South and East
side neighborhoods where 14-24 year-olds stand at high risk of gang involvement.
Specialists constructively mediate conflict and mentor and connect youth to positive
opportunities. Aims to reduce crime and gang-related violence; keeps youth safe and
on-track to healthy, productive lives; encourages youth involvement in work readiness

Service description: Provides tutoring and mentoring for children. Services include
homework help, basic education, educational games and self-confidence building.
Eligibility: Anyone.

Programs that promote parent, family and community involvement in helping children
succeed in school. Using a variety of involvement models, these programs encourage
parents to support their children's schooling by working directly with their children on
learning activities in the home and serving as an advocate for better education in their
community. Parents are encouraged to model desirable behavior (e.g., reading for
pleasure), discuss school matters at home, arrange for appropriate study space,
organize and monitor their children's time, check homework on a regular basis, tutor
their children at home, help older students make postsecondary plans and select
courses which support these plans, advocate for their children when required, attend
school functions, discuss their children's progress with teachers, join the PTA, vote in
school board elections, attend school board meetings and, where possible, volunteer
to help with school activities, work in the classroom and/or take an active role in
governance and decision making about school programs at the community, state or
national level.

Service description: The HFF Dowd Education Center provides STEAM (Science,
Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) focused academic programming for children
in grades K-8. The Center has both afterschool and summer programs that provide
both education and intervention that support Ohio Department of Education standards
and local school curriculum. Other activities provided to enhance social skills, self-
esteem and overall health include: homemade nutritious meals daily; fitness and
recreation activities; field trips; and presentations from outside agencies that support
education and well-being.
Eligibility: Homeless or formerly homeless children and at-risk children referred by
partner schools in the Franklinton and Hilltop area of Columbus.
Hours: School year: Mon-Fri 3:30 pm-6:30 pm.
Summer program: Mon-Fri 9 am-3:30 pm for 8 weeks.

Service description: Offers a 13-hour curriculum to help fathers develop skills and
attitudes that will empower them to be positive parents and role models. Format is
facilitator led instruction and group discussion. Focus of curriculum is on positive
parenting skills, co-parenting strategies, and effective communication techniques.
Program offers direct case management in partnership with community agencies to
help fathers navigate and overcome barriers, including child support challenges,
visitation and custody issues, workforce entry and driver's license reinstatement.
Eligibility: Fathers.
Hours: Typically 6:30 pm-8 pm. Day of week varies throughout year.

Service description: Evidence-based program that helps parents and children learn
new patterns of behavior to increase positive interactions, improve communication, and
strengthen family relationships. Parents learn about appropriate expectations,
developing family rules, praising children, ways to deal with problem behaviors and
more. Youth participate in concurrent groups with activities and discussion tailored for
their age and developmental level. Families also spend time each week eating dinner
and engaging in a fun family activity together.

Service description: Offers free internet access, academic resources and skill
building trainings. Youth can learn how to operate programs such as Excel and
PhotoShop.
Service description: 50-minute mental health awareness program for high school age
youth. Teens learn how to recognize the early warning signs of mental illness and what

to do if they or someone they know is exhibiting these signs. Instills a message of hope
and recovery and encourages teens to reduce stigma and end the silence surrounding
mental illness.

Service Description:
Provides tutoring services. Provides basic reading tutoring including phonics, spelling,
fluency, vocabulary and comprehension assistance. Offers reading and study skills
assistance in science, social studies and humanities. Offers OAA, OGT, SAT, ACT,
GED and GRE preparation assistance. Also offers tutoring in math and writing as well
as diagnostic reading assessments. Specializes in reading differences. Math and
vocabulary camps are offered in summer. ACT/SAT workshop series offered each
semester year round.
Eligibility: Pre-K through adult.

Hours: As arranged. Most tutoring is scheduled Mon-Thu 10:30 am-6:30 pm during the
summer months and Mon-Thu 4 pm-7 pm and Saturdays 9:30 am-12:30 pm during the
school year. Tutoring outside those hours may be available.

Fees: Fees begin at $25 per hour for Level 1 tutoring. Discount available to families
that qualify for free or reduced lunch. Hourly rate for diagnostic assessments and
