Wrought Iron (WI) Pipes - These pipes can be easily cut and
fir `` ese arc prepared by rolling the flat plates of metal to the needed diameter
*"n
and then welding the edges. They are made upto 500 mm in diameter.

(iv)
Galvanized Pipes - These pipes are made of wrought iron or steel and are
widely used for distribution system. These pipes are economical, cheap, and
easy to transport. The jointing (by screw joints) of G.I. pipes is easy and their
life is about 10 years. These pipes are not suitable for soft water and are suitable
for hard water. The galvanized wrought iron pipes are mostly used %%here the
chances of corrosion are more. They are usually made in size
of 0.6-7.5 cm.
(►9 Cement Concrete Pipes - The cement concrete pipes are made
from plain concrete, reinforced cement concrete or pre-stressed cement
concrete. The plain concrete pipes are used for conveyance of water at places
where there is no internal pressure. The reinforced cement concrete is made
by reinforcing with steel bars and casting concrete in a framework. The
reinforced cement concrete pipes are suitable where internal pressure is high.
In now-a-days, the pre-stressed cement concrete pipes are used for very high
pressure. The cement concrete pipes are very heavy and difficult to handle.
These pipes are also difficult to transport.
(vi) Copper Pipes - They are very expensive and are not used for
ordinary works. These pipes are lighter, and can be easily bent. These pipes
are unaffected by corrosion and can resist acidic action. So, these pipes are
usually used in chemical industries and for making gouseneck in house
Plumbing. Sometimes, they can be used in hot water supply line. They can be
ma
de of very thin walls and of any diameter. The small diameter pipes are
jointed together by copper alloy screwed ferrules.
(vii) Steel Pipes - The steel pipes are lighter, stronger and cheaper
I than cast iron pipes. They can be easily transported. The steel pipes are
im
pressionable to corrosion and so they should be carefully watched. These
Pipes are manufactured by rolling the sheet and then welding the edges. These
