The 20th century has passed 19 years ago, but the history left behind is still very

influential. According to my personal cave, one of the things that most remembering is the
history of The Anti-Colonial struggle in various part of the world that gave birth so many
independent countries from the world map as we know it today.

Of all drama of stuggle against colonialism in the 20th century, there is one story that
very well known and so influences similar struggles in various other places and in the future.
The story of this great struggle was led by a figure who was considered one of the most
important people of the 20th century (version of Times magazine) 5th times was nominated
for The Nobel Piece Prize and on his birthday today was commemoreted by United Nations as
the International Day of Non-Violence. Who is the figure?

He is Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, or better known as Mahatma Ghandi. And

Indiaan father who is at the same time the most important icon and the symbol of 20th
century in non-violent movements in the world. The process of Gandhi’s stuggle during his life
even inpired other great figures to follow similar movements in various part of the world,
some of them were Nelson Mandela (father of South African Nation) and Martin Luther King
Jr ( american civil rights fighter)

Gandhi’s history began at the age of 18 in 1888. Gandhi sailed to London, England to
study law, as request of his parents. He completed his studies successfully and became a
lawyer. Later he return back to India. Difficult to find job in India, Gandhi pbtained one year
contract related to legal services in South Africa. Spending years in South Africa, toghether
with other people of color, he was subjected to discriminatio, such as being asked to move
from first class train, eventhough he had an official ticket. Such experiences arouse his
enthusiasm to fight for social justice.

Gandhi return back to his homeland to bring the mission of change to the people of
India. Gandhi began the struggle in a simple way, teach the concept of Satyagraha and
Ahimsa, which were essentially resistance movements in a peaceful manner without violence.
Gandhi succeeds in fighting social war and creating fair society. That was proven when I visited
India last February. There is no difference in statis, nationality and others. Even me and team
from another countries were welcomed. We all socialize well too. Not remembering the
difference between us.

Gandhi has performed his role very well in an effort to free people. From a shy young
man, groggy when he spoke, he turned into a liberation activist who had succeeded in freeing
his people by remaining fimly upholding the principle of road without violence until the end
of his life.
