“Public Market,once the heart of every town are dying because of neglect and the entry
of more aggressive entreprenuers” Pabico (2012). It’s town center commerence and trade. The
exchange between and among diverse culture implies. Most of the Public Market in tagum City
are described bad perception by it’s very dirty environment with poor ventilated space that cause
foul odor. In the recent years, developments sprouts with in the vicinity of the Tagum City Public
Market changing further the face and function of the market. Severla factor contributes to a
growing middle class and rising of a consumer demand in the market results to it’s progress.
October 04, 1954 was the ribbon cutting ceremony lead by Mrs. Merceline Wakan with
Mrs. Rosario Balayo, Mrs. Policarpia Bacani, Mrs. Margarita Aala and Mrs. Margarita Reyes. On
the same day was the turnover ceremony by Municipal Mayor Eliseo Wakan. The construction of
the first public market in tagum city gaves an opportunity to the vendors to have a right place for
commerce. It also serves as a public gathering place for people from different ethnic, cultural and
socioeconomic communities. This leads to an easy access to fresh healthy, food in providing

Local Government of the House of Congress, chaired by Congressman Ciriaco Alfelor. The said
law passed all the requisites in the House of Congress, resulting to its approval.
Then, Republic Act 8472 “An Act converting the Municipality of Tagum into a City, to be
known as the City of Tagum” was passed to the House of Senate through the sponsorship of
Public markets are not just places of commerce. Successful markets help grow and
connect urban and rural economies. People in local wet markets encourage development,
enhance real estate values and tax base, and keep money in the local neighborhood. Public
markets also offers low-risk business opportunities for vendors grow, raise and produce their
products.
HISTORIOGRAPHICAL METHOD
In conducting this historical research about the origin of Tagum City Public Market
we are to explain how we gather information including the historical evidences. We use
photographs and records of the particular events as the primary and secondary source in
characteristics and also the consistency of the characteristic of a time and period when it
was taken. Examination of the truthfulness of the records and data was also conducted.
Interpretation of the historical sources was based on what we see and to the
information that was written in the data. The information provided is fair and base on facts
The significance of this historical article is to show the evolution of public market from a
commerce and trading center to a more efficient set-up of commercial stall. This study is
student.
