2.1.2 Proper Operation by Operators Fig. 2-2

As shown by accident analysis, many accidents
are caused by operators' distraction, carelessness
or negligence and other unauthorized activities.
The shift system is established to prevent
accidents caused by ambiguity of responsibilities
of operators resulting from error occurring at the
time of shift. The person on duty should record the
operation of trailer-mounted concrete pump
properly and hand it over to the other person on
duty before going off duty.
The machine will be also subject to tangible loss
when being parked or stored as a result of
rustiness of parts, corrosion of metal, and aging of
rubber and plastic. To reduce such loss, preventive
measures, e.g. maintenance, should be taken.
The constructors and operators should
communicate and cooperate with each other to
achieve safety operation.
The machine newly purchased or after heavy
repair or technical improvement should be tested
firstly to verify its performance and applicability. As
the parts newly fitted have relatively poor
adaptability, a period of running-in is needed to
make the fitting surfaces match well with each
other. Do not run the machine with full load before
running-in lest an accident happens due to
adhesive wear.
The low temperature in cold seasons brings about
some difficulties in starting, running, parking and
storing the machine, so relative measures should
be taken to protect the machine against major
accidents such as abnormal loss and frost crack of
cylinder block when the machine runs at low
temperature.

Warning

The protective articles are just used to provide

certain protection rather than 100% protection!
The helmet can protect you from being injured
by small falling objects rather than heavy
objects (see Fig. 4-8)! Therefore, please always
keep alert and have safety sense!

4.2 Safety Requirements

Besides the Safety Manual, Operation Manual and
Maintenance Manual, relevant national regulations
for safety, accident prevention and environmental
protection also should be observed.
During operation, besides the Operation Manual, Fig. 4-8
other necessary instructions should be
supplemented, including supervision and
responsibility for special working, for example,
working organization, operation procedure and
personnel assignment.
In dim or dark area, spotlights should be used to
illuminate the areas near the hopper and for
placing (see Fig. 4-9). Those illuminating
appliances should be furnished by the construction
unit.
Fire extinguishers should be placed beside the
trailer-mounted concrete pump. The operator must
Good illumination
know the locations and quantity of such fire
extinguishers, and make sure the extinguishers are Fig. 4-9
in their initial positions before pumping. It is
unallowable to operate the trailer-mounted
concrete pump with the absence of fire
extinguisher.

Warning

Irrelevant persons should not play at the

worksite of the trailer-mounted concrete
pump;
In case of material discharging from a truck
mixer, it is prohibited to stand between the
trailer-mounted concrete pump and the truck
mixer (see Fig. 4-10).

4.3 Special Dangers for Equipment and

Preventive Measures
The general machinery safety principle is:
(1) Firstly, guarantee safety from design and
manufacturing.
(2) Take necessary protective measures if safety
can not be guaranteed from design and
manufacturing.
(3) Give corresponding warning for the remaining
dangers that can not be solved through
protective measures.
This principle emphasizes the priority of machinery
safety protection, and this is an important concept.
It indicates that in dangerous area, it is insufficient
by warning signs to meet the requirements.

4.3.1 Prevention Against Dangerous Accidents

(1) Prevention against fire and explosion

Because every machine has flammable materials,
and heat will be produced when it works, it is
highly probable to incur fire and explosion.
However, these dangers have been minimized by
reasonable design, i.e., the fire and explosion
mostly take place accidently or when the machine
is misoperated.
Hence, the following two items must be observed
during operation and maintenance:
Avoid fire.
In case of a fire, take measures to put it out and Fig. 4-11
carry out medical treatment in time (see Fig. 4-11).

(2) Flammable materials

The fuel and most high-pressure fluid used by
various construction machines are flammable.
In case of a fire, the high temperature produced
will cause other nonflammable materials (e.g.
grease, paint, rubber and plastic) to swiftly reach
their burning points.

24
SAFETY RULES
HBT80C-1818DIII TRAILER-MOUNTED CONCRETE PUMP SAFETY MANUAL

(3) A fire may be directly caused by one of the

following items:
The leaking fluid reaches the high-temperature
part of the machine;
The leaking fluid may come from the part of poor
sealing or be the overflowing fluid from the
overfilled liquid container (the fluid expands when
the temperature increases); overfilling is forbidden
when supplementing fuel and working liquid.
A dust cloth is placed on the machine.
The heat-insulating layers of the heat-insulating
elements are damaged or fall off.
The high-temperature gas emitted from the
damaged exhaust system meets flammable
materials.

(4) A fire may also be caused by one of the

following items:
Short circuit in the electrical system;
Overload of electrical system owing to misuse of
fuse;
Unskilled welding or gas cutting;
Overheating or explosion of the machine parts
owing to improper maintenance (e.g. lack of
lubricant);
Accidental voltage transformation owing to
mistaken approach to or connection with power
transmission line.

Caution

It is prohibited to flush the electric control

cabinet body and electric appliance
elements with water or expose them to rain
(see Fig. 4-12).

4.3.2 Basic Protection Principles

(1) This equipment is a kind of construction
machine for concrete pumping and meets the
requirements of EN 12001, Conveying,
spraying and placing machines for
concrete and mortar-Safety requirements.
It is forbidden for the user to change the
appearance and the systems at random for
any reason, including changing the safe
pressure, using larger-diameter delivery pipes
or increasing the pipe wall thickness, and
changing the control procedure or electrical
circuit. Otherwise, the Manufacturer takes no
responsibilities for the consequences arising

Max. end hose length=L

therefrom.
(2) The trailer-mounted concrete pump can only
be used for concrete delivery, and using it for
any other purpose is dangerous and not
R
allowed.
(3) The equipment is especially designed to
deliver the concrete of a density less than
2400 kg/m3.

(4) It is not allowed to increase the diameter of

the concrete delivery pipe at random without Danger zone≤2L (Diameter)
authorization. The length of the end hose is 3
Notice the length of the end-hose: L=3~5m
m~5 m; the bend radius: R﹥ 1 m. Caution:
When the pump is started, people are not Bend radius R>1m
allowed to enter the dangerous area (the area

covered by swinging end hose), which is of a
diameter twice the length of the end hose.
(see Fig. 4-13). The service life of the hose
should not exceed 6 years, including the
storage period (the storage period should not
exceed 2 years).

(5) During pumping, it is required to prevent the

end hose from being bent or blocked and
avoid immersing it in concrete. It is prohibited
to add a delivery pipe at the end of the end
hose; otherwise, the pressure in the pipeline
is easy to increase to cause accident (see
Fig. 4-14).

(13) If the high-pressure hydraulic oil contacts

human body, it will cause serious injury. In
order to ensure that all the pipes, elements
and parts are sealed well and durable, before
operating the trailer-mounted concrete pump,
please check and confirm all the high-
pressure rubber hoses are in good condition
so as to prevent injury caused by oil leakage
or abrupt breakage owing to aging of the
rubber hoses (see Fig. 4-24). The service life
of the high-pressure rubber hoses is
suggested to be one year.

SAFETY RULES
HBT80C-1818DIII TRAILER-MOUNTED CONCRETE PUMP SAFETY MANUAL

(16) During working, it is prohibited to stand on the

edge of a building, with the end hose held in
the hands, as the operator may fall due to the
swing of the end hose or delivery pipe,
consequently causing physical injury. It is
required to stand at a safe place and use
suitable auxiliary tools to guide the end hose
in case of working on the edge of a building
(see Fig. 4-27).

4.3.3 Other Protections

(1) The operator and others near the machine

must wear protective appliances such as
goggles, safety helmet, earplugs, mask,
gloves, loose work clothes and highly anti-skid
work shoes (see Fig. 4-29). Take care to avoid
being injured by splashing particles. Besides,
wearing ties and watches is dangerous and
must be forbidden.

Fig. 4-29
(2) At the construction site, if the level of the
noise generated by the equipment exceeds
the locally specified value, please close the
machine door (see Fig. 4-30). In order to
reduce the harm to the human body caused
by the noise, please wear earplugs.

Fig. 4-30

(3) The user should prepare fire extinguishers by

himself, and there should be at least one
person knowing how to use fire extinguisher at
the construction site. When filling diesel to the
trailer-mounted concrete pump or opening the
fuel tank cover, please take care to avoid fire
(see Fig. 4-31).

Fig. 4-31

32
SAFETY RULES
HBT80C-1818DIII TRAILER-MOUNTED CONCRETE PUMP SAFETY MANUAL

(4) When the trailer-mounted concrete pump

operates, the engine will emit exhaust gas,
and there are splashing concrete particles
from time to time during construction, so
always wear mask for your health (see Fig. 4-
32).

Fig. 4-32

(5) No one should stand on the hydraulic oil tank

cover plate in order to avoid falling into the
tank in case the cover plate collapses. Two
different hydraulic oils can't be mixed in the
hydraulic oil tank to avoid chemical reaction.
The oil level in the hydraulic oil tank should be
proper, because if it is too high, an explosion
may easily occur. It is required to use the
hydraulic oil of grades designated by our
company (see Fig. 4-33).

Fig. 4-33

(6) As the oil, fuel and functional liquid may harm

the human body or skin, do read and
understand the User's Guide of the functional
liquid, and always wear safety helmet and
work clothes.

(8) Inspection of wall thickness: Use a wall

thickness indicator (see Fig. 4-36) to measure
the working delivery pipe wall thickness every
day. When the wall thickness is less than the
allowable minimum value (Note: the minimum
thickness can be found out in Fig. 4-35),
replace the delivery pipe; otherwise, it may
burst and the concrete may jet from the pipe
suddenly, consequently resulting in personnel
injury. (Note: The wall thickness indicator can't
be used for double-wall pipes).

Fig. 4-36

(9) Don't dismount any pipe clamp when the

pipeline is pressurized. To dismount pipe
clamps in the course of working, operate the
trailer-mounted concrete pump to conduct
reverse pumping for 3~5 times to reduce the
pressure in the pipeline (see Fig. 4-37). When
dismounting the clamp, the operator should
stand at the side of the clamp, rather than
facing the connector, and he should use a
wooden or metal covering part to cover the
connector, so as to avoid concrete jetting.

4.4 Common Sense About Safety Operation

As there is high-pressure liquid in the operating
trailer-mounted concrete pump, always observe
the following precautions.

4.4.1 Precautions Before Operation

(1) Check the trailer-mounted concrete pump for
its positioning. The trailer-mounted concrete
pump should be installed on even and solid
ground. To avoid automatic slide, the trailer-
mounted concrete pump cannot be set on a
slope.
(2) Check whether the delivery pipes are laid
correctly and whether the mode and capacity
for concrete delivery and feeding are normal.
(3) Check whether the power and water supply
meet the demand by normal operation, and
make sure the electrical, hydraulic and
mechanical systems are in good condition.
(4) Check the oil level in the hydraulic oil tank. Fill
it in case of insufficiency. The filled hydraulic
oil should meet the requirements.
(5) Check whether the lubricating grease in the
lubricating grease pump is sufficient. Fill it in
case of insufficiency. Always firstly carry out
manual lubrication if there is a manual
lubrication pump, and then carry out
lubrication by air pumping to check whether
Fig. 4-38
the grease supply at each lubricating point is
normal (see Fig. 4-38).
(6) Before starting the trailer-mounted concrete
pump according to the operation instructions,
check and confirm the hopper screen is
closed and the water tank is filled with clean
water and free of foreign substances. After
starting the diesel engine, operate it with a
rotation speed of 800~1000 r/min for 3~5 min.
(7) A period of no load operation is necessary if
the temperature is low. Only after the
temperature of the hydraulic oil rises up to
20℃, can the concrete be fed for pumping.
(8) Conduct no load operation for 10 min to check
whether the indication of the pressure gauge
is normal, whether the mixing device can
achieve reverse mixing and whether the
reverse pumping is normal.

36
SAFETY RULES
HBT80C-1818DIII TRAILER-MOUNTED CONCRETE PUMP SAFETY MANUAL

4.4.2 Precautions During Operation

(1) Before pumping concrete, first pump water

and check each clamp to make sure it is
sealed well without leak, and then pump
pipeline lubricant (mortar generally or cement
grout). In case of mortar, the used amount
should be 0.5 m3/200 m, and the mix
proportion (cement: sand) should be 1:2 for
pipeline with a length less than 150 m, or 1:1
for pipeline with a length more than 150 m.

(2) Pour mortar into the hopper for pumping.

When mortar pumping is coming to end, pour
the required concrete into the hopper for
normal pumping. If the mortar pumping is
blocked, dismount the first section of piping,
and take out the dehydrated block. Start
normal pumping so long as piping is
reinstalled well.
(3) The slump of pumped concrete should not Fig. 4-39
vary greatly, and the variation scope should
be controlled within 100~230 mm. Before
using a truck mixer to dump concrete into the
hopper, quickly mix the concrete in the mixing
drum for several minutes at first.
(4) Inform the front hose operator before starting
or stopping pumping. The bend radius of the
front hose should be more than 1 m. The
operator is not permitted to stand at the outlet
of the hose to avoid injury caused by the
suddenly jetting concrete.
(5) When the trailer-mounted concrete pump is
running, it is forbidden to put your hands into Fig. 4-40
the hopper or the water tank (see Fig. 4-39).
(6) The delivery pipe must be fastened and
padded firmly. Never bend the delivery hose
to avoid hose burst (see Fig. 4-40).
(7) The end of hose may swing violently while
pumping starts after solving the blockage,
thus causing sudden concrete jetting, so the
operator is not permitted to approach the hose
(see Fig. 4-41).

Fig. 4-41

37
SAFETY RULES
HBT80C-1818DIII TRAILER-MOUNTED CONCRETE PUMP SAFETY MANUAL

(8) It is prohibited to stand on the edge or at the

corner of a building, with the end hose held in
the hands, as the operator may fall due to the
swing of the end hose or jetting of concrete
(see Fig. 4-42).
(9) The concrete level should be above the
mixing shaft during pumping. Air suction or
pumping is not permitted.
(10) If the pumping has to be stopped for a
comparatively long time, start the pump once
every 15~30 min to carry out reverse pumping
for 1-2 strokes and then forward pumping for
1-2 strokes to avoid concrete setting inside
the pipes. Fig. 4-42
(11) During pumping, if the pumping pressure rises
suddenly or the delivery pipeline is subject to
vibration, start reverse pumping immediately
for 2-3 strokes to decrease the pressure in the
pipeline, and then conduct forward pumping. It
may also be helpful to use a wooden hammer
to knock the parts of the tapered pipes and
elbows easy to be blocked. If the pumping
pressure remains too high after several
successive operations, the pipeline must be
blocked. In this case, stop pumping to
eliminate the blockage.
(12) Always observe the hydraulic oil temperature
during pumping. When it rises up to 55℃, it is
required to start the cooling system; if it
continues rising up and exceeds 80℃ , stop
the machine for check.
(13) During pumping, do not empty the hopper, as
the remaining concrete may jet from the
hopper to damage the machine and injure the
people around.
(14) In the event of too low concrete slump, do not
add water into the hopper for mixing; instead,
add cement mortar (with the same proportion
of water and cement as the pumped concrete)
into a truck mixer or mixer, mix it evenly and
then pour it into the hopper.
(15) Don’t pile concrete on the hopper screen. In
addition, control the concrete feeding flow and
clear away the over-diameter aggregates and
foreign substances in time.
(16) Stop pumping and do troubleshooting in time
when the mixing shaft is seized.

38
SAFETY RULES
HBT80C-1818DIII TRAILER-MOUNTED CONCRETE PUMP SAFETY MANUAL

(17) In case of concrete segregation in the hopper,

stop pumping temporarily, and mix the
concrete evenly before pumping again. In
case of serious aggregate segregation and
obviously insufficient mortar in the hopper,
remove some aggregates and add mortar for
remixing.
(18) For re-pumping after short break in vertically
upward pumping, carry out reverse pumping
at first to suck the concrete back into the
hopper from the distribution valve.
(19) In the event of working pause, if there is a
spigot in the pipeline, fit the plug-in board well
to protect the concrete in the vertical or up
tilting pipes against backflow (see Fig. 4-43).
Fig. 4-43

4.4.3 Precautions After Stoppage

(1) After pumping, it is required to idle the diesel
engine for 3~5 min before stoppage.
(2) Every time after concrete pumping, clear away
the concrete remaining in the trailer-mounted
concrete pump and the pipeline immediately.
(3) When the temperature is lower than 5°C, clear
away the water in the trailer-mounted concrete
pump, especially the accumulated water in the
water cooler, to protect the parts against frost
crack.
(4) Carry out the maintenance after shift,
including fastening of loose parts and
lubrication of transmission parts, after
ensuring the engine is stopped and the
pressure in the accumulator is released.
(5) For trailing, such parts as the guide wheel
should be withdrawn completely and cannot
touch the ground.

4.4.4 Precautions for Repair

(1) To repair this equipment, please carefully read
the Maintenance Manual and Parts Manual. In
case of any question about the procedures or
technologies, please consult the After-sales
Service Department in our company. Never
repair it without full understanding.

39
SAFETY RULES
HBT80C-1818DIII TRAILER-MOUNTED CONCRETE PUMP SAFETY MANUAL

(2) To carry out repair, place the trailer-mounted

concrete pump on flat ground with the repair
area not smaller than 48 (6×8) m2 and the
height not less than 6 m. To make sure the
trailer-mounted concrete pump will not move
unexpectedly, all buttons of electric appliances
should be set at OFF position, and the engine
should be shut down. It is required to release
the pressure in the accumulator before
repairing the hydraulic system.
(3) When it is necessary to apply electric welding
on the trailer-mounted concrete pump, the
high voltage generated may damage the
electronic elements of the remote control
system and cable control system, so it is
required to do the following before applying
welding:
a) Remove the remote control plug from the
remote control socket, and use a cap to cover
the connecting socket.
b) Remove the negative terminal from the
storage battery at first, and then the positive
terminal.
c) When disposing the fuel, hydraulic oil and
other functional liquids (including brake fluid
and electrolyte of storage battery), there is risk
of a fire or explosion. Please observe the
relevant safety regulations and the local laws
to recycle or use the products. Never dispose
them at liberty.
(4) It is forbidden to use compressed air to clean
the pipeline or eliminate blockage. Never add
seawater or salty water into the water tank.
(5) Do not put any tool on the storage battery, butt
the positive and negative poles of the storage
battery or connect metal with the positive pole,
so as to prevent physical injury due to electric
discharge (see Fig. 4-44).
(6) When the top of the equipment needs repair,
Fig. 4-44
the user should prepare antiskid ladder or
repair platform in accordance with the
requirements of EN 14122. In addition, take
care to avoid falling when stepping on the
ladder or working on the top.

40
SAFETY RULES
HBT80C-1818DIII TRAILER-MOUNTED CONCRETE PUMP SAFETY MANUAL

4.5 Cleaning
After maintaining the trailer-mounted concrete
pump or adding functional liquid, clear the marks of
hydraulic oil, fuel or other preservatives on the
trailer-mounted concrete pump firstly, and then well
treat the cloth stained with erosive or smeary
liquid.
It's not allowed to use any flammable substance,
seawater or other salty fluid as detergent. After
cleaning, check the fuel, lubrication and hydraulic
systems for leakage, looseness and damage. If
any, carry out treatment at once.

4.5.1 Clearing of Remains

(1) After pumping, clear away the concrete in the

pipeline and hopper to prevent blockage due
to the setting of remaining concrete. It's
forbidden to clear the remains with
compressed air. Otherwise, our company
bears no responsibility for the consequences
arising therefrom.
(2) To clean the delivery pipe, wet cleaning can
be applied. Before the sponge ball is sucked
into the pipe, be careful as the remaining
concrete and sponge ball may jet out
suddenly to cause physical injury (see Fig. 4-
45). Fig. 4-45

4.5.2 Cleaning of Equipment

After cleaning the delivery pipes, open the

discharge outlet of the hopper to discharge the
remains completely, and then install a water gun to
clean the hopper, S-valve and delivery cylinder.

4.7 Package, Transportation and Storage

4.7.1 Package

(1) It is not necessary for the trailer-mounted

concrete pump to be cased up for delivery, but
the exposed surfaces should be treated
against corrosion and rust.
(2) The concrete delivery pipes and other
accessories should be treated against
corrosion and rust. The delivery pipe
connectors should be protected against
collision.

4.7.2 Transportation and Storage

(1) The trailer-mounted concrete pump should be
transported and stored in accordance with
ISO 6749-1984. In addition, the following
precautions should be taken:
a) Release the accumulator oil pressure
completely;
b) Drain the water system (including the oil water
cooler);
c) Set all switches and operating handles at the
OFF position;
d) Close and lock the doors and covers of the
control box and operator's station.

Caution

The places for product storage or

transportation should be rain-proof,
corrosion-proof, sun-proof and ventilated,
with a temperature of -40°C~40°C.
The relative humidity for product storage or
transportation should be 30%~95%.

43
SAFETY RULES
HBT80C-1818DIII TRAILER-MOUNTED CONCRETE PUMP SAFETY MANUAL

(2) In case of site transition, the trailer-mounted

concrete pump should be loaded and
transported as follows:
a) If the distance between the two worksites is
not more than 1000 m, fold and fix the four
outriggers before towing the equipment away
with a trailer at a speed not more than 8 km/h
(see Fig. 4-48).

trailer velocity (v≤8km/h)

Fig. 4-48

b) If the distance between the two worksites is

not less than 1000 m, use a crane to load the
trailer-mounted concrete pump onto a truck.
- Check whether the hook of the trailer-mounted
concrete pump (see Fig. 4-49) and the sling of
the crane are in good condition;

Fig. 4-49

44
SAFETY RULES
HBT80C-1818DIII TRAILER-MOUNTED CONCRETE PUMP SAFETY MANUAL

- Check whether the lifting method is correct

(see Fig. 4-50). During lifting, no person
should stand under the trailer-mounted
concrete pump in case the sling breaks
abruptly and thereby hurts people.

Fig. 4-50

- The gravity center positions on the trailer-

mounted concrete pump and truck should be
the same in general. The truck should not
carry things irrelevant to the transportation of
the trailer-mounted concrete pump. The
height, width and length of the load should not
exceed the values specified in the local road
traffic law. Since the gravity center of the
trailer-mounted concrete pump is relatively
high, keep traveling at a proper speed, and
decelerate at the time of turning to avoid
overturn. When passing through underpasses,
bridges, tunnels, or overhead pipelines or
cables, it is required to ensure there is enough

SAFETY MARKS
HBT80C-1818DIII TRAILER-MOUNTED CONCRETE PUMP SAFETY MANUAL

5 Safety Marks

5.1 Relevant Instructions

The safety marks have the following functions:

Call attention to the existing or potential dangers;
Describe the dangers;
Indicate the nature of dangers;
Indicate the possible consequences caused by
such dangers;
Instruct persons how to avoid such dangers.
The safety marks should be located at visible
positions and distinct from the equipment. Certain
measures should be taken to protect the safety
marks against damage and scratch. The safety
marks are expected to have a relatively long
service life.
For the safety marks, the edges should be flat and
smooth without obvious burs, dentations or waves,
the front surfaces should be flat and clean, and the
frames should be uniform and straight without any
curve or defect.
The performance requirements, test methods,
inspection rules, package and storage of these
safety marks should conform to the relevant
requirements in GB/T 13306.

Prompt

If the safety marks in this chapter differ from the

physical products, the latter should prevail.
