4th International Kite Festival and 2nd International Sweet Festival inaugurated by Vice President
Venkaiah Naidu in Hyderabad, Telangana
On January 13, 2019, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu inaugurated the 4th International Kite Festival and
2nd International Sweet Festival in Hyderabad, Telangana.
i. It was organised by the Department of Tourism, Government of Telangana and the Ministry of
Tourism, Government of India, as a part of Sankranthi celebrations, at the Parade Grounds in Secunderabad.
ii. This year’s theme for Telangana International Kite Festival was for empowerment of the girl child: ‘Educate
girl child and she will save the world’.
iii. As many as 42 professional kite flyers from abroad and 60 from India are participating in the Kite Festival
and it witnessed participation of nearly 100 enthusiasts of kite flying from 19 different countries including
India.
iv. Moreover, sweets from 20 countries and from 25 Indian states were displayed at the Sweet Festival.
About Makar Sankranthi:
♦ It is a harvest festival, a celebration of life and vitality. It is the festival of Sun God who is often regarded as the
symbol divinity and wisdom.
♦ In south India, it is popularly called ‘Pongal’, in Punjab and Haryana it is called ‘Lohri’, in Assam it is called
‘Bihu’ and ‘Khichdi festival’ in Bihar.
Secunderabad Railway Station: the first Railway station to hoist Tricolour National flag on a 100 feet
tall pole under Railway’s order
On January 2, 2019, Secunderabad Railway Station, in Hyderabad, became the first railway station of South
Central Railway (SCR) zone to hoist a huge tricolour on a 100-foot tall pole.
i. This was done according to the Railway Board’s order to hoist the national flag at 75 A1 category railway
stations.Kacheguda, Hyderabad became the 2nd and 3rd railway Stations to hoist the100-foot tall pole.
ii. The flag would be guarded by the Railway Protection Force (RPF).
iii. Furthermore according to the order, SCR has taken the initiative to hoist the National Flag at 2 other ‘A1’
category Railway Stations they are Vijaywada and Tirupati.
i. The State and Central government will share the cost of the ‘State Tiger Protection Force'(STPF) with 112
members headed by the assistant conservator of the forest on40:60 basis.
ii. They are organised to protect the tiger population in the areas of Amarabad and Kawal tiger
reserves. iii. Fund amount of 2.25cr was also sanctioned to protect the tigers and to prevent forest fire
accidents
Agri-Vision 2019, a two-day conference on ‘Envisioning Agro Solutions for Smart and Sustainable
Agriculture’ at Hyderabad
On 17th January 2019, Vice-President of India Shri Venkaiah Naidu inaugurated the 2-days Agri-Vision 2019
conference on ‘envisioning Agro-solutions for smart and Sustainable Agriculture” in Hyderabad,
Telangana. The conference was concluded on 18th January 2019.
Key Points
i. The Agro-vision 2019 conference was jointly organized by the Professor Jayashankar Telangana State
Agricultural University (PJTSAU), Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Cornell University, USA.
ii. Vice-Chancellor of PJTSAU, Dr V Praveen Rao chaired a Panel discussion on “Technology in Agri
Entrepreneurship: Success stories and experiences from the progressive farmers”.
iii. Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Director General of Indian Council for Agricultural Research (ICAR) chaired a
session on “Post-harvest management and value addition of foods: Role of Farmer Producer’s
organization (FPOs) in improving Market Access” on 18th January 2019.
Justice T B N Radhakrishnan sworn in as Chief Justice of Telangana HC; Justice Praveen Kumar as the
acting Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court
On January 1, 2019, Justice Thottathil Bhaskaran Nair Radhakrishnan was sworn in as the Chief Justice of
the Telangana High Court.
i. His oath was administered by Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan.
ii. After that the CJ of Telengana HC administered the oath of office to 12 justices of Telangana High Court.
iii. He had been serving as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Judicature at Hyderabad for both the states of
Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
Other News:
Governor Narasimhan also administered oath to Justice Praveen Kumar as the acting Chief Justice of Andhra
Pradesh High Court in Vajaywada.
Background:
♦ As per the Supreme Court’s directions, the existing high court in Hyderabad was bifurcated as per demands of
the advocates and legal fraternity for a separate high court for Telangana.
♦ The High Court of Judicature at Hyderabad had been serving as common high court of the two states since
June 2014 when Andhra Pradesh was bifurcated to carve out Telangana.
♦ High Court of Andhra Pradesh was established by December 31, 2018, in state capital of Amaravati.

v. As of now, 2.29 crores market trades with value more than Rs 60000 crore has been initiated on the e-NAM
portal.
The Proposal of Ministry of Power for higher power allocation to Home State from Under Construction
Projects of NTPC
The Cabinet Committee chaired by Narendra Modi has approved the proposal of Ministry of Power to allocate
85% of Power generated to Telangana and Jharkhand from Under Construction Projects of National Thermal
Power Corporation Limited.
Key Points
i.The proposal seeks to provide 85% of power to Telangana govt. generated from Telangana Super Thermal
Power Project (4000MW) of NTPC ltd. and further 85% to Jharkhand govt. from Patratu Thermal Power Station
(4000MW) of Patratu Vidyut Utpadan Nigam ltd. of NTPC ltd..
ii.Both these allocations to Telangana and Jharkhand will lay an impact to ensure the progress & sustainable

Unemployment allowance of Rs 3,000 per month proposed by KCR government in Telangana Budget
On 22nd February 2018, Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao presented a Vote-on-Account
Budget for the year 2019-20.
Key points:
i. It is an interim budget.
ii. The total expenditure is valued to be Rs 1,82,017 crore which is 4 percent higher than the previous year-
out of which there is a revenue expenditure of Rs 1,31,629 crore and a capital expenditure of Rs.32,815
crore.
iii. The estimated revenue surplus is pegged at Rs 6,564 crore and fiscal deficit is Rs 27,749 crore which
is2.81percent of Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP).
iv. Revenues for Budget Estimate (BE)of 2019-20 of the state are valued at Rs 94,776 crore.
v. A sum of Rs 1810 crore has been allocated in the Budget to fund an unemployment allowance of Rs
3,016 per month to the eligible youth.
vi. Rs. 6,000 crores have been allocated to waive off agricultural term loans of up to Rs. 1 lakh.

Special Expenditure Observers for States of Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka,
Nagaland and Telangana, have been appointed by Election Commission of India
On 26th March 2019, Election Commission of India has appointed Sh. Gopal Mukherjee as Special Expenditure
Observers for the state of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and Sh. D.D. Goel as Special Expenditure
Observers for the state of Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland for the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections.
Key Points:
i. Sh. Gopal Mukherjee is ex- Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer of 1980 batch, and former Member of Central
Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT).
ii. Sh.D.D.Goel is ex- Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer of 1982 batch, and former Directorate General of
Income Tax Investigation (DGIT Inv.).
iii. Both these officers will oversee and monitor the work being done by the electoral machinery and ensure
that stringent and effective enforcement action is undertaken against the person/entities who are trying to
persuade voters by distributing cash, liquor & freebies etc.
iv.Further, the Commission has decided to give additional charge of Gujarat and Karnataka to Sh. Shailendra
Handa and Ms. Madhu Mahajan, respectively.Sh Handa would thus be Special Expenditure Observer for
Maharashtra and Gujarat while Ms Mahajan will be deployed in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

ECI appoints Special Central Police Observer for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana
Election Commission of India has appointed Shree K K Sharma (IPS 1982 Retd DG Border Security Force) as
the Central Police Observer for the States of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.He would oversee the deployment
and other security related issues in both the states.
K K Sharma was earlier nominated for the States of West Bengal and Jharkhand but his appointment was
objected by the opposition parties of both states.
MoU signed by Ola and Telangana Govt. to strengthen traffic infrastructure in Hyderabad
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Ola and the Government of Telangana to
support the government’s initiative to implement smart solutions to enhance mobility experience further
strengthening traffic infrastructure in Hyderabad.
i. Under the MoU, the first pilot project proposed is the dynamic mapping of riding quality of various major
roads in Hyderabad through the network of vehicles operating on the Ola platform.
ii. The desired outcome of this pilot project is to reduce accidents causing because of potholes, monitor the
construction of roads, and prioritize budget for road repair.

ii. The institute is also mentoring other states to spread the Comprehensive Online Modified Modules on
Induction Training (COMMIT) Programme as a national mission.
The M3 version of EVMs to be used in Nizamabad Lok Sabha and Likely To Enter Guinness Book with
Record EVMs
On 11th April 2019, The Nizamabad Lok Sabha constituency in Telangana may enter in the Guinness World
Records for the maximum number of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) of M3 version used in the polling
booth.
Key Points:
i. Total of 12 EVMs in each polling station was linked to one control unit in each of the 1,778 polling centers.
ii. It became the first constituency in the country to witness polling with EVMs for a large number of
candidates (185 candidates).
iii.This new version of EVMs was developed by the Electronics Corp of India Ltd (ECIL) and Bharat
Electronics Ltd (BEL).
iv. The Nizamabad constituency has a little over 15.53 lakh voters including 3.73 lakh farmers.
v. This new M3 version EVMs, came after 2013, with a maximum capacity of 384 candidates including NOTA,
have additional features like Tamper Detection and Self Diagnostics.
Telugu poet K Siva Reddy honoured with the prestigious Saraswati Samman 2018
On 11th April 2019, Telugu poet K Siva Reddy has been honoured with the prestigious Saraswati Samman,
2018with a cash prize of 15 lakh rupees for his collection of poetry titled ‘Pakkaki Ottigilite’.
Key Points:
i. He was born in 1943 in Karmurivari Palem near Tenali, Andhra Pradesh.
ii. He has won several awards, including the Sahitya Akademi Award for his book ‘Mohana! Oh, Mohana!’.
iii. The Saraswati Samman award was given annually for an outstanding literary work written in any 22 Indian
languages listed in Schedule VIII of the Constitution of India. It is one of the highest literary awards,
instituted by the KK Birla Foundation in 1991.
Telangana records 15% GSDP growth in FY19 with Rs. 8,66,875 crore
Telangana recorded 15% Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) growth for the Financial year ended March
31, 2019 with Rs.8,66,875 crore. For the year 2018, it stood at Rs. 7,53,804 crore.
Key Points:
i. After the formation of Telangana state, this was the first ever highest growth registered.
ii. The capital expenditure for the year was Rs. 47,038 crore and this was the main reason for recording the

highest growth rate. The total capital expenditure from 2014-15 to 2018-19 was Rs. 1,64,519 crore.
iii. Primary sector grew by 10.9%, secondary sector by 14.9% and tertiary sector registered a growth of 15.5%.
The debt to GSDP ratio was 22%, lower than the limit set by Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management
(FRBM) Act which is 25%.
iv. 14.2% was the GSDP rate for the year 2017-18 and 2016-17.

Justice Raghvendra Singh Chauhan sworn-in as the second Chief Justice of Telangana High Court
Acting Chief Justice of Telangana High Court, Raghvendra Singh Chauhan sworn-in as the second Chief
Justice of Telangana High Court in Hyderabad. He succeeded Chief Justice T.B. Radhakrishnan in April, 2019
and sworn in as acting Chief Justice.He hails from Rajasthan.

13th Global Healthcare Summit organized by AAPI and GAPIO held in Hyderabad
Vice President of India, Shri Venkaiah Naidu inaugurated the 13th edition of the annual Global
Healthcare Summit (GHS) organized by American Association of Physicians of Indian
Origin (AAPI), with the lighting of the traditional lamp and delivering the keynote address at the Taj
Krishna Hotel in Hyderabad.
i. The GHS is being organized by AAPI in concert with the British Association of physicians of Indian
Origin(BAPIO) and the Global Association of physicians of Indian Origin(GAPIO) along with several
alumni chapters of medical schools in India.

Jaipal Reddy, former Union Minister & Senior Congress leader, passed away in Hyderabad
On July 28, 2019, Former union minister and senior Congress leader from Telangana, S. Jaipal Reddy,
aged 77, passed away at Asian Institute of Gastroenterology in Hyderabad while undergoing
treatment for pneumonia.
Key Points:
i. Born on 16 January 1942, in Madgul, Telangana, he was a 4-time Member of Legislative Assembly
(MLA) from Kalwakurthy from 1969-84.
ii. He served as a Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting in the IK Gujral cabinet in 1998
and Union Minister for the Ministry of Earth Sciences and the Ministry of Science and Technology
from 2012 to 2014.
iii. He was conferred with the best parliamentarian award in 1998.
Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan inaugurates interstate portability in two clusters of states
Shri Vilas Paswan, Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution inaugurated
the inter-State portability in two clusters of adjoining States of Andhra Pradesh & Telangana and
Gujarat & Maharashtra, as a major step towards achieving the objective of ‘One Nation One Ration

Card’.Under the National Food Security Act, beneficiaries can avail the benefits from any of the two
cluster States.
Key points
i. 11 States/UT have implemented the intra-State portability. The 11 states are
• Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Haryana, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Punjab,
Rajasthan, Telangana and Tripura.
ii. Having implemented intra-State portability already, the inter-State portability will be introduced in
these 11 States by 1st January 2020.
iii. Other states apart from these 11 states will be included in the inter-state portability in a phased
manner starting from 1st of June 2020.
iv. To sustain the reforms brought in by the ongoing scheme of ‘End-to-End Computerization of TPDS
Operations’ and to introduce new reforms, the Department of Food & Public Distribution, is targeting
implementation of nation-wide portability in distribution of subsidised foodgrains to the beneficiaries
without the need of obtaining a new ration card under ‘One Nation One Ration Card’ System.
v. electronic Point of Sale (ePoS) devices supported by the biometric/Aadhaar authentication will be
installed at Fair Price Shops(FPS)
vi. More than 4.1 lakh (77%) ePoS devices are already operational across the country. 25 States/UTs
have either completed the installation in all FPSs or having significant progress. More than 85% ration
cards (at least one member) in the country are linked with the Aadhaar numbers of the beneficiaries.

Board approved Request for Proposal (RFP) document for appointment of Portfolio Managers and
recommendation of the FIAC on appointment of Portfolio Managers.
ix.Exercise of early redemption options available in DHFL Bonds: The Board approved for early
redemption option in DHFL bonds recommended by FIAC.
x.Consent for Transfer of Non- Convertible Debentures (NCDs) of GSPC to GSIL: EPFO has total
investment of Rs.2300 Cr in Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation Ltd (GSPC) NCDs. The Board
approved the transfer of NCDs of GSPC to GSIL, a wholly owned subsidiary of Govt. of Gujarat and a
better rated company which had made an offer to take over debt of GSPC with budgetary support of
Government of Gujarat.
xi.Legal Entity Identifier Code (LEI) for participation in non- derivative markets by EPFO: In
Nov’18, the Reserve Bank Of India (RBI) issued an advisory to all eligible market participants in the
Financial Markets to obtain LEI Code. The Board approved the nomination of the EPFO Officers as the
authorized Officials to obtain LEI Code.
xii.Withholding Investments in bonds of private sector companies: The CBT approved the
decision to withhold any further investment in Private Sector Companies Bonds and to compulsorily
consider one of the two required ratings necessarily from CRISIL, CARE, ICRA & India Ratings for
investments in PSU Bonds category.
xiii.Ratification: The Board ratified the decision of put option in NCDs of Tamil Nadu Power Finance
Corporation and also approved put option in bond issued Kerala Finance Corporation & Tamil Nadu
Power Finance and Infrastructure Dev. Corp. Ltd.
xiv.EPFO exit from DHFL: CBT has allowed the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO)
to exercise an exit option for recovering the pending Rs 600 crore from Dewan Housing Finance
Corporation (DHFL), and approved the appointment of 3 fund managers to manage its corpus.
xv.Fund managers: The EPFO’s advisory body Finance, Audit and Investment Committee (FAIC) had
finalised and recommended the names of three asset management firms- Hong Kong and Shanghai
Banking Corporation (HSBC) Asset Management Company (AMC), United Trust of
India (UTI) AMC and State Bank of India (SBI) Mutual Fund – for their appointment as fund
managers for three years beginning October 1, 2019.

IIT Hyderabad, NIT Jalandhar Researchers develop Bone Implant Materials From waste
Eggshells
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Hyderabad and Dr. B R Ambedkar National Institute of
Technology (NIT) Jalandhar (Punjab) researchers have developed a process by which bone implant
materials can be synthesized from eggshells which are dumped as waste.
Key points:
i. Process: The team synthesized nanopowder, which is a hundred thousand times smaller than the
width of a single human hair, from the eggshells, which are made of largely calcium-containing
minerals (95.1%) along with small amounts of proteins and water.
ii.Benefits: This will help people, who are affected in using synthetic chemicals as bone replacement
materials because of the presence of chemical residues. Plaster of Paris is commonly used by people to
heal bone defects but it is highly toxic.
iii.Publisher: The research work done by the team was published in the March 2019 issue of the
journal Ceramics International.

Telangana begins to celebrate the floral festival, Bathukamma for the year 2019
Bathukamma, a 9-day wonderful festival of flowers celebrated by the women on a grand scale has
commenced in the Warangal city of Telangana on September 28, 2019, & will conclude on October 6, 2019.
Key points:
i. The festival is celebrated for the entire 9 days of Navratri (begins on the day of Mahalaya Amavasya and ends
on Saddula Bathukamma festival on Durgashtami, two days before Dussehra).
ii. In Navratri, Hindu deity Gauri Devi is worshiped as Batukamma idols, which is made up of flower stack.
iii. The women pray to Batukamma, sing folklore and ask deity a boon of health, prosperity, and happiness for
her family. Bathukamma means a beautiful pile of flowers. Most of the flowers with medicinal properties are
used in Bathukamma.
Telangana CM Chandrashekar Rao presents Rs 1.46 lakh crore annual budget for FY 20
On September 9, 2019, the Chief Minister(CM) of Telangana, Shri K Chandrashekar Rao presented the annual
budget for 2019-20 of Rs 1.46 lakh crore. The total expenditure in 2019-20 pegged at Rs 1,82,017 crore
(Revenue expenditure: Rs 1,31,629 crore and Capital expenditure: Rs 32,815 crore) .

Budget presentation: Despite the state finance minister T Harish Rao, the CM himself presented the Budget
but it is to be presented in the Legislative Council by Harish Rao.
GSDP: The Gross State Domestic Product(GSDP) of the state has increased to Rs 8.65 lakh crore in 2018-19
from Rs 4.51 lakh crore in 2013-14.
Revenue receipts: The growth rate is expected to be slowed in terms of revenue receipt, due to which budget
is to be pared(reduced) and pegged at about Rs.1.70 lakh crore based on vote-on-account (interim permission
to spend money as against a full Budget). The expected revenue surplus is ₹6,564 crores and the fiscal deficit is
₹27,749 crore.
Budget allocation: Some of the important budget allocated sectors are as follows,

Crop loan debt Rs. 6,000 crore.
Electricity subsidies Rs. 8,000 crore.

Municipalities Rs. 1,764 crore.
State government’s welfare programmes will continue like Rythu Bandhu which was allocated Rs 12,000 crore
and Aasara Pensions which was provided Rs 9,402 crore.

5th edition of Aqua Aquaria India for the year 2019 held in Hyderabad
On August 30, 2019, The 5th edition of Aqua Aquaria India 2019 was held at Hitex International
Convention & Exhibition Centre, Hyderabad, Telangana with the theme “To take Blue Revolution to
India’s hinterland”. It was inaugurated by the Vice President of India, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu. The 3-day
biennial event was organized by the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) under the
Commerce Ministry. It is the largest aquaculture exhibition in India.
Key Points:
i. India is the second-largest fish producer in the world with a production of 13.70 million tonnes during 2018-
19. It earns 10% of its total exports from fisheries.
ii. The 2017 edition of the Aqua Aquaria India held at Nehru Maidan, Mangalore, Karnataka.
iii. It is the fourth largest exporter of fish in revenue terms with the export earnings of $7 billion.

Telangana governor Tamilisai becomes the youngest governor at 58 years while Andhra governor
Harichandan becomes the oldest at 85
On September 8, 2019 former TamilNadu Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan who
was sworn in as the first woman governor of Telangana, became the youngest state governor at the age
of 58 among all the current governors. Andhra Pradesh governor Biswa Bhusan Harichandan is the oldest at
the age of 85 among the current governors.
Key points
i. Dr. Tamilisai is the only current governor under the age of 60.
ii. The youngest governor of India overall is Swaraj Kaushal who served as the governor of Mizoram at the age
of 37 between 1990 and 1993.
Indian Concrete Institute award 2019 honours MEIL for Kaleshwaram project’s outstanding concrete
structure in Hyderabad
On September 7, 2019 on the occasion of concrete day celebrations, Construction company Megha Engineering
and Infrastructures Limited (MEIL) was recognised with Indian Concrete Institute award 2019 (ICI
award)for the outstanding concrete structure of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP) in Telangana.
The award was received by N Venkateshwarlu, chief engineer of the project and B. Srinivas Reddy, MEIL
director from ICI president Vinay Gupta in Hyderabad, Telangana.
Key points
i. Best concrete structure: The ICI awarded the best concrete structure award 2019 to Amazon building and
for execution of the Khajaguda to Nanakramguda concrete road.
ii. Lecture: on the concrete day occasion a lecture on “Engineering challenges in the construction of
Kaleshwaram project” was delivered by the project chief engineer.
About (KLIP)
It is a multi-purpose irrigation and also the world’s largest multi-stage lift irrigation project on Godavari
River built across the Kaleshwaram dam of Telangana.
Project worth- Rs 80,000 crore.
It was inaugurated on june 20, 2019 by the chief minister of Telangana K Chandrasekhar Rao.

IR’s Secunderabad station becomes 1st station to get IGBC green platinum rating
On September 18, 2019, the Secunderabad railway station of Indian Railways (IR) became the first station
awarded with green ‘Platinum rating’ by the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) under the Confederation of
Indian Industries (CII) for its energy conservation initiatives and modern passenger amenities inclusion. C
Shekar Reddy, Chairman, IGBC Hyderabad, presented the IGBC plaque and certificate to Vinod Kumar Yadav,
General Manager at Secunderabad railway station in presence of PiyushGoyal, Union Minister for Railways.
Key points
i. The station has been awarded the Indian Standard Organisation (ISO) 14001-2015 Certificate-
Environmental Management system. It received the National Tourism Award 2016-2017. The station comes
under Secunderabad division of the South Central Railways (SCR) zone.
ii. Major initiatives of this railway station are Air-conditioned waiting halls equipped with CO2(carbon dioxide)
sensors, solar panel installations, station beautification, and waste management etc.
Venkaiah Naidu conferred Telugu poet K Siva Reddy with 28th Saraswati Samman award 2018
On September 28, 2019, The Vice President, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu has honored the Telugu litterateur Dr. K
Siva Reddy with the 28th Saraswati Samman 2018 for the creation of his famous poetry collection ‘Pakkaki
Ottigilite’ (Turning aside while lying down) in 2016 during an award-giving ceremony organized by the KK
Birla Foundation in New Delhi.
Key points:
i. The selection council of KK Birla Samman, jury (Chayan Parishad), or selection committee, which includes
renowned scholars and writers and was headed by constitutionalist Subhash Kashyap, selected Dr. Reddy, who
has enriched Telugu literature through compositions of 23 poems.
About Saraswati Samman:
The prestigious Saraswati Samman instituted in 1991 by the K. K. Birla Foundation, is awarded every year for
significant contribution in the field of literature related to any of the 22 languages of India included in the
Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. The award carries a cash prize of Rs 15lakh, a citation and a plaque.

Former bureaucrat BN Yugandhar, father of Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, passes away in Hyderabad,
Telangana
Microsoft’s chief executive officer (CEO) Satya Nadela’s father and former bureaucrat BN Yugandhar has
passed away in Hyderabad, Telangana after a brief illness. He was 82.
i. Yugandhar, a 1962 batch Indian Administration Service (IAS) officer, worked as Secretary in the Union Rural
Development Ministry.
ii. As a member of the Planning Commission (now NITI Aayog(National Institute for Transforming India)) from
2004 – 2009, he played an important role in including the entire chapter on matters related to disability issues
included in the Plan.
iii. Yugandhar acted as the director of the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration at
Mussoorie in Uttarakhand. Apart from this, he has also worked in Prime Minister’s Office during the tenure of
the late PV Narsimha Rao.
