Song: Footprints by Sia

Idea Summary:

 Overall idea represents the narrative of two teenagers aged between 17-18 who
have grown to develop a strong friendship but have drifted apart following the male
protagonist moving to a new house. The narrative will present their journey
(primarily focusing on the female character’s point of view) as they reconnect after a
series of flashback scenes on moments to which they both consider highlights of
their friendship.
 Ultimately, the aim of the narrative is to aid people of a similar demographic to the
two characters (also addressing the 16-25 year old target demographic who are
more likely to be able to relate to the notion of losing a close friendship as a result of
them probably recently experiencing them themselves) to present them with the
idea that, for the most, a friendship this close and intense will always have some
long-lasting sentiment to those involved.
 Narrative follows the two beginning with scenes where the female protagonist sees
two friends on the bus (a boy and a girl) which, following a previous reminder where
she listens to two songs related to “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” (a novel the
two both have a shared interest in), causes her to reminisce over her lost friendship.
This then leads to her going home and looking at a box of their memories, leading to
various flashback scenes of the two enjoying time together on the beach. Eventually,
the story progresses to them the male protagonist coming home to surprise his best
friend.
 In order to reflect the notion of “footprints in the sand” as presented in the lyrics of
the song, parts of the narrative will be set on a beach/seaside where the two
teenagers can be seen enjoying themselves. These scenes will show the two running
along the beach and enjoying the scenery, for example; ending on a shot on the
beach beginning with footprints in the sand tilting to the couple sitting on the beach
watching the sunset and then tilting further to show the sunset itself. They will also
be seen in the arcades/seaside front as a way of portraying how the two have such a
bond that when they spent time together, they would only focus on having fun in
each other’s company whilst ignoring everyone around them.
 Simultaneously, there will be performance elements of the artist lip syncing to the
song as a popular convention of a pop music video.
