BACKGROUND:

The Local Government Unit of Santol have long sought to integrate gender responsiveness in response to
the General Appropriations ACT (GAA) on Programs/Projects related to Gender and Development (GAD).
GAD focuses on the principle that development is for all. Everyone in society, female or male, has the right
to equal opportunities to achieve a full and satisfying life. Sports and cultural development activities are
also implemented as part of the LGU’s physical fitness program. These include sports competitions,
agency-sponsored seminars with the participation of employees’ families, and provision of facilities to
help ease work pressure, inspire creativity and promote general well-being.

Furthermore, the Civil Service Commission (CSC) issued MC No. 8, series of 2011 which reiterated the
Commission’s directive to all government agencies to adopt a health and fitness management program
for all its employees dubbed as “The Great Filipino Workout.” The program is designed to give importance
to a healthy lifestyle and development of an alert workforce in government agencies. This is also an
integral part of the National Physical Fitness and Sports Development Program for government personnel.
In line with this directive, the Local Government Unit of Santol encouraged employees to join the
“ZUMBA” at the Municipal Plaza every Friday at 3:00 in the afternoon as part of the agencies continuing
physical fitness activity to develop a healthy workforce.

Zumba involves dance and aerobic movements performed to energetic music. This is an exercise fitness
program created by a Colombian dancer and choreographer during the 1990s. Zumba can help lower the
risk of heart disease, reduce blood pressure and bad cholesterol, and boost good cholesterol. Indeed,
health and wellness really go together.

RATIONALE:

One of the main thrusts of the current administration headed by the Hon. Mayor, Engr. Magno A. Wailan
is SALUN-AT. It aims to provide better health services among constituents and promote healthy living
among Santolians.

On this premise, it was conceptualized that officials and employees should become role models for this
cause. Hence, it was conceptualized that the Local Government Unit of Santol should establish a healthy
lifestyle program, thru Zumba sessions, to be participated in by LGU officials and employees.
This program will be the local version of the “Biggest Loser” wherein participants will aim to lose weight
and have a normal Body-Mass Index and compete for the ultimate prize.
OBJECTIVES:

1. To allow employees/participants to participate in a variety of appropriated physical activity;


2. To develop and reinforce healthy lifestyle behaviors among participants;
3. To educate employees/participants on establishing lifelong fitness goals;
4. To educate employees/participants on health benefits of physical fitness;
5. To reduce risk of chronic diseases among participants/employees.

PROGRAM MECHANICS:

1. The program shall be mandatory for LGU employees;


2. It shall be open for all interested individuals to join.
3. Every participant shall pay, upon registration, a registration fee of Php50.00.
4. Upon registration, participants shall undergo weigh-in, height measurement and other vital
statistics;
5. For purposes of determination of winners, participants shall be grouped to two categories;
1. Employees and 2. Open Category
6. Zumba sessions shall be conducted every Friday from 3:00pm to 4:00 pm.
7. Kick-off shall be held on August 9, 2019 at the Santol Covered Court;
8. All participants shall be required to wear appropriate sports attire during the sessions.
