THE BLIND BEGGAR

Series Objective: At the end of this series, it is our hope that the kids will have a deeper
understanding of faith and learn the different ways to approach Jesus, resulting to a
change in attitude in approaching Him.

Note to the preacher: The series objective is just a guide for you, you don’t need to
mention it when you preach

PT: Knowing God better will build our faith in Him.

PV: Mark 11:22 (NIrV) “Have faith in God,” Jesus said.”

VIDEO: The Blind Beggar

Let’s read about the story straight from the Bible.

WORD

Phenomenal 1
THE BLIND BEGGAR

Luke 18:35 (NIrV) Jesus was approaching Jericho. A blind man was sitting by the side of
the road begging. 36 The blind man heard the crowd going by. He asked what was
happening. 37 They told him, “Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.”

38 So the blind man called out, “Jesus! Son of David! Have mercy on me!”

39 Those who led the way commanded him to stop. They told him to be quiet. But he
shouted even louder, “Son of David! Have mercy on me!”

40 Jesus stopped and ordered the man to be brought to him. When the man came near,
Jesus spoke to him. 41 “What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked.

“Lord, I want to be able to see,” the blind man replied.

42 Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight. Your faith has healed you.” 43 Right away he
could see. He followed Jesus, praising God. When all the people saw it, they also praised
God.

Let’s look at three things about the blind beggar that led him to his healing.

1. He knew Jesus.

Luke 18:38 So the blind man called out, “Jesus! Son of David! Have mercy on me!”

When the blind beggar called Jesus, he said “Son of David!” That means the blind beggar
knew exactly who Jesus was. That title simply says that Jesus is the promised Messiah
who will save us from sin and death.

ILLUSTRATION: Guess the whole name

Can I ask one teacher to come here in front with me? . . . Now, I want you all to guess
Teacher ________’s age and what his/her job is. If you think s/he is a student, guess
what grade s/he is in.

It was difficult, right? It’s because you don’t have a close relationship with Teacher
________. You can’t even guess his/her job. That blind man knew who Jesus was and
what he came here to do: to be the Messiah who will save those who believe in Him.

You’re here every single Sunday if you regularly go to Kids Church. Listen very well to us,
your teachers, as we teach you who Jesus is. Also, do the things we ask you to do like
praying and reading the Bible.

2. He called out on Jesus.

Luke 18:39 Those who led the way commanded him to stop. They told him to be quiet.
But he shouted even louder, “Son of David! Have mercy on me!”

Phenomenal 2
THE BLIND BEGGAR

We learned from the first point that the blind man knew Jesus; but there’s no use of
knowing Jesus if he didn’t call out to Him.

Persist - insist; persevere

He knew that it is Jesus that he needs. That’s why despite people trying to stop him, he
persisted and shouted even louder.

ILLUSTRATION: Contacts

If you have a smart phone, you have this built-in app called CONTACTS. It contains
people’s contact numbers that you have saved. You have all their numbers in your phone;
but unless you press the call button to have a conversation with them, you won’t be able
to talk to them at all.

Most of us know Jesus already; but the question is, are you calling on Him for your
problems? Or do you try to fix them yourself first before going to Jesus through prayer? If
you have an exam, do you just study right away, take the exam, and then pray
afterwards if you think the exam was difficult? What you need to do is before you even
study, pray to God acknowledging that He will be the one to provide you wisdom and
strength to study for the exam you’ll be taking.

3. He had faith in Jesus.

Luke 18:42 Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight. Your faith has healed you.”

Jesus knew how much faith the blind beggar had. Because the blind man knew Jesus, he
had faith in Jesus. Because of his faith, he was healed. Just like what our Power Truth
says . . .

PT: Knowing God better will build our faith in Him.

ILLUSTRATION: Old Wooden Bridge vs Golden Gate Bridge

IMAGE: Old Wooden Bridge

If you are asked to ride a bus that will cross a bridge and you see that it is this kind of old
bridge, would you feel nervous? Why? Yes, it’s because by the looks of it, it can’t carry the
weight of a bus.

IMAGE: Golden Gate Bridge

What if it was this kind of bridge? Will you feel confident?

Jesus is our Mighty God. That’s why we can be confident and have faith in Him. Do you
trust in Him?

PRACTICE

Phenomenal 3
THE BLIND BEGGAR

Now that we know these three things, let’s check out two things we can do to practice
what we just learned.

1. Know more of Jesus.

We have been always telling you this: Know more of Jesus. I would just like to point out
that your faith will save you as Jesus said. If you don’t know Jesus, you can’t have faith in
Him. That’s why you should read the Bible and pray to Him.

2. Have more faith in Jesus.

You already know a lot about Jesus. At your age, you can trust Jesus by simply praying
for things that only God can do! You pray for little things, but also pray for things that are
big. And as our Power Verse says . . .

PV: Mark 11:22 (NIrV) “Have faith in God,” Jesus said.”

POINT TO JESUS

Bible scholars say that the blind beggar was not just saved physically but also spiritually.
That means that not only was he healed of his blindness but he was also saved by Jesus
because he had faith in Him.

Like that blind man, we can also be saved if we have faith in Jesus and what He did on the
cross.

HUDDLE TIME
