is possible to send the Jembi a new billing table which will come
into effect at a designated time. This new table is called the Dated
Table.

Using the Call Control menu

Under the Call Control menu, you can bar incoming calls, restrict transactions to pre-paid mode and/or limit the
cost of calls made in post-paid mode.

Select - Business - Call Control. This section has two sub-

menus:

Incoming Calls
This menu has the option to allow or disallow incoming calls.
Press to select your choice.
Press to accept your selection or to cancel.

Post-paid Setup
The Post-paid Setup can be used to enable transactions made in
post-paid mode, or limit the cost of transactions made in post-paid
mode.

Post-paid Control
The distributor can set the Jembi to work in pre-paid mode only,
disabling all transactions made in post-paid mode. This can be set
under Post-paid Control.

Using the the and buttons to toggle between the options,

press to select an option and to accept your choice.
Press to cancel.

Post-paid Limit
Post-paid Limit is used to limit the maximum transaction value
allowed in post-paid mode. This is useful in preventing customers
from running up a large bill that they may not be able to pay. The
maximum transaction amount is set in this menu. Once the customer
reaches this limit, the transaction will be terminated.

Viewing the Profit Setup

The profit mark up inflates the billing table rates (as configured with the Management Centre) allowing different
profit margins for the owner and operator. As a distributor, you can set the maximum profit margin allowed as a
percentage of the billing rates. The owner and operator margins can be entered separately but by default the range
is from 0% to 0%, effectively disabling this feature. The maximum rate allowed is 200%.

CUSTOMER CALL RATE = Billing table rate + profit mark-up 1 + profit mark-up 2

To access the Profit Setup menu, enter your Level 10 PIN via the
Security menu and press to exit. Select - Business -
Profit Setup. This section has two sub-menus:

Profit Mark-up 1 is for the operator.

Profit Mark-up 2 is for the owner.

Press and to scroll to the owner or operator mark-up and

press . Use the keypad to enter a percentage, pressing to
delete the amount entered. Press to accept or to cancel.

Viewing the purse

The purse can be disabled with the Management Centre. Once the airtime balance reaches zero, the Jembi will no
longer be able to make voice calls or send text messages. Like the post-paid limit whereby the maximum value of
each transaction between the user and operator is limited, the purse
limits the maximum cost of airtime between the operator / owner
and the distributor. This is particularly useful when using a post-paid
SIM as the distributor can set the purse, limiting the total value of
transactions that can be performed by the owner. Purse is most often
disabled when using pre-paid SIM cards as the network implements
this restriction.

To enter the View Purse option, select - Business - View

Purse.

Viewing Cash Totals

The Cash Totals menu provides a detailed report of all voice and
SMS services sold. Different totals are shown so that different
players in the business process can each obtain and control the
information independently.

To view the Cash Totals, select - Business - Cash Totals.

10.2 Problem-solving techniques

Distributors may find the following guidelines and suggestions helpful in solving users’ problems.

• Symptoms
Ask the user what the problem is with the product. Record the problems that the Jembi presents or how the
problem is experienced by the user.

• What is the message on the LCD?

Record exactly what message is displayed on the Jembi’s LCD. Compare it to the troubleshooting guide on
page 35.

36
Solving problems

• Quantity
How many Jembi units present this problem at the same location? Identification of the problem is made much
easier depending on how many units have the same problem.

• Frequency
How often does the problem occur?
1. Every call
2. Only some calls
3. It happened once

• Location
You need to identify if the problem is site-dependent. Ask the user to move the product from one site to
another. (E.g. test it at home in the evening.)
1. Only ONE site?
2. Every site?

• Eliminate
Apply a process of elimination to identify the problem. Swap out peripheral parts with other known working
peripherals to further identify a faulty item.

• Check against master reference

If there is still no apparent answer, ask the user to bring it into the distributor office / branch for verification
against a master working unit and master SIM card.

• Fix
Address the problem by replacing the faulty item or sending it to a Psitek-accredited repair centre.

• Record
Record the details on an electronic database. It is vital that the distributor’s branches all have shared access
in order to understand how problems were resolved. It could save an employee a lot of time if he could refer
to other colleagues’ learnings. It is also very important to record failure rates within areas. It could point to
possible misuse or user problems within an area.

11. Looking after the Jembi

Taking good care of the Jembi is not only easy but will ensure a long life-span. By regularly cleaning the keypad
and hookswitch, as well as looking after the batteries, the Jembi will provide consistent and reliable service. The
charger should also be properly looked after, ensuring the cable is never wound too tightly, as this may damage
to the charger.

11.1 Cleaning the keypad

Dust and grime may become trapped in the Jembi’s keypad. To clean the keypad, follow these steps:
• Switch the Jembi off and carefully remove the bezel.
• Remove the keypad and clean it with warm water only.
• Ensure the keypad is completely dry before replacing it in the Jembi.

Removing the bezel

• Remove the bezel to access and remove the keypad.

Figure 14

11.2 Cleaning the hookswitch

The hookswitch may also need cleaning to prevent it from sticking. To clean the hookswitch:
• Switch the Jembi off and remove the curly cord, external power supply, and any devices that may be attached.
• Slide the back cover off and gently blow on the area around the hookswitch to remove any dust and grime.
• Replace the back cover.

11.3 Looking after the batteries

To extend the life of the battery pack, charge it as often as possible. This can take up to four hours if the battery
pack is completely flat. Should the unit be inactive for an extended period of time (e.g. one month or longer), the
battery pack should be completely recharged for four hours before the unit is operated again. Always charge the
unit in a cool environment (below 40°C) using the charger provided with the unit. (Please note: The battery capacity
will be temporarily reduced if the unit is operated at low temperatures.) For optimum battery life, avoid using it up
to the point where the Jembi automatically powers off because the battery is completely discharged. Please refer
to Connecting the charger on page 10 for details on how to charge the Jembi.
