“What do you want to be when you grow up?

” We all heard that question as children and

sometimes even as adults. The question is born in curiosity, and the answer is often heard as an
indication of ambition. My answers morphed over the years, starting with becoming a doctor, then a
teacher, followed by a soldier and I entered college set on becoming a law enforcer.

When I was younger, I really thought life is all unicorns and butterflies that when you wish upon
a falling star, your wish will come true; that there is a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. When I was
younger I get excited even with little things that I was so gullible enough to believe that every Christmas,
I received gifts from Santa Clause. Until life, itself, hit you in the face, really hard. These are all happy
thoughts now.

We live in a millennial time where people easily give up on their dreams, on what they stand for,
on what they believe in. My dream of becoming a law enforcer has been my light at the end of the
tunnel. Focusing on what is important and taking no attention to the background noise has been my
everyday mantra. But there are days when I feel like giving up, days when nothing has going my way. In
these moments I always remind myself of the help I could give to our society after these have passed. I
could assist in implementing peace and order. I could aid in preventing the proliferation of crimes, in
protecting the people from all kinds of danger and in enforcing the statutes and laws, in general. These
are my everyday motivation every time I stumbled on a rock.

In a smaller scale, law enforcers are like teachers. The classroom with its students work as a
society with the teacher implementing and enforcing the rules and conduct inside a classroom. I really
do believe that being a teacher is a noble profession. Without them, CEOs could not be made, there
would be no police officers and engineers, doctors and lawyers would not enjoy their titles. I salute our
teachers for the work they have given to us when we are out of our own households. And I am confident
to say that I owe my successes, small or great, to them. I would not even know how to write this article
if not for them.

Our dreams are not to be taken for granted. Dreams will lead us in the future. They are what
give us life, they help us succeed, and they let our minds roam and soar higher in the human
imagination. So as future law enforcers and teachers, we should not stop. We should not stop in helping
the nation achieve its own dream for itself. We should not stop fighting for what is right. And most
importantly, we should not keep our dream be a dream forever, because these are our guide, all we
need to do is follow.
