PROPOSED 143 BROOKVIEW MEMBLEY PAVING BLOCKS REPORT.

Following the release of the paving blocks’ compressive strength lab results it has come to our attention
that various samples did not meet the required threshold for use in the various alignments.

As per KS 827:2003-Precast concrete paving blocks, medium duty 60 mm paving blocks at 28 days
should have a compressive strength of 35 N/mm2 and heavy duty 80 mm paving blocks should have a
compressive strength of 49 N/mm2. Below is a summary of the various paving blocks and the required
strengths at days 07, 14 and 28.

Grade Nominal Compressive Strength (N/mm2)

thickness (mm)
Day 07 Day 14 Day 28
Heavy duty 80 mm, 60 mm 32 44 49
Medium duty 60 mm 23 32 35
Light duty 50 mm 16 23 25

In our case reference is made to the 80 mm heavy duty paving blocks which are to be used on the main
alignments with high traffic volume and the 60 mm medium duty paving blocks which are to be used
on the low traffic alignments.

Using the above information, paving block samples that were tested on 31st May, 3rd June, 4th June,
14th June, 17th June, 19th June and 21st June did not meet the threshold. Below is a summary of the
attained strengths.
