This week the student worked on topic research and selected "youth crime" as their topic. They will produce three productions on schemes to prevent knife crime in Croydon. The student has conducted initial research on youth detention centers and stabbing statistics. They are on track but need to do additional research outside of lessons to fully understand the topic and have sufficient information to complete their productions.

Week 1 This week you worked on your idea generation and
topic research 1 The task was to look at the topic ‘British Youth’ and find something under that title that we felt passionate about. We came up with three main ideas which were “school systems”, “youth crime” and “mental health”. Eventually, we decided on Youth crime, partly because we have good and reliable sources to interview someone and Although it was difficult to narrow it down to just one idea, we chose 'crime in youth'. This is because there are a lot of routes to go down to develop on this idea and it is an interesting subject. We can talk about both the negatives and positives. Also, I have a family member who can help us develop our project as she has very extensive knowledge on youth crime as she has worked closely with troubled kids in youth detention centres. She would be available to interview which helps us a lot in doing our work to a higher standard and quality. She would be able to talk about things she has experienced with the teens themselves, give an insight into how the system works and talk about rehabilitation. I think this would be very interesting and educational for the viewers but also keep us interested in our work which will improve the quality. We are going to make three productions covering our selected topic, covering as much as we can about knife crime in Croydon. The factual programme will be a 4 minute documentary that looks into the life and mind set of young offenders and we will also visit some places in Croydon where stabbings have occurred and talk about how knife crime in areas like that is considered to be “just how things go” and look into why people now feel the need to carry a weapon on them to feel like they can protect themselves. What are you making your 3 production We have chosen “What schemes are being put in place to prevent on and why have you chosen this topic? knife crime in Croydon?” .This is because I have personal ties to the location as I used to live there. I think the animation will prove to be the most interesting and challenging to make because it is an area that we have not stepped into as a class and only have the supplies made available by the college which isn’t very extensive when it comes to animation so I will have to keep it fairly basic whilst trying to make it interesting What research have you completed this I have learnt about how youth detention centres work and also week and what have you learned? have an idea of recent statistics in the upwards surge of stabbings, particularly in Croydon. Are you on track for this week? If not, I am on track, however I think that I need to add to my research. how far behind are you? What work do you need to complete Just make sure I fully understand the work and have enough outside of lessons to stay on track? information to help me move on.
