RESEARCH PLAN

I. TITLE: Science Investigatory Project

Durian or Kamias Extract: an Alternative Battery to Power-up an LED
Light Bulb

II. Rationale:
This Science Investigatory Project aims to provide students with opportunity to
enhance their skills such as: learning skills, problem-solving skills, creative skills,
critical thinking skills and computer skills. They will undergo experiences with
regards to unveiling answers for scientific queries. Their main goal is to prove if it is
possible to make durian and kamias extract an alternative battery to power-up an
LED light bulb. By accomplishing this project, students will be given the opportunity
to present their work to other science fairs proudly representing Lambayong National
High School.

III. Objectives:
To prove if it is possible to make durian and kamias extract an alternative
battery to power-up an LED light bulb.
To successfully perform the project using two (2) set-ups:
a. Set-up 1: using durian extract
b. Set-up 2: using kamias extract

IV. Date and Venue:

The researchers aim to perform the project this month of August. They are
expected to present their paper, original and revised, by the first week of the month
of September. The whole project will be conducted at the Science Laboratory of
Lambayong National High School, Lambayong, Sultan Kudarat.

V. Target Participants or Facilitator/s:

VI. Project Design

Statement of the Problem
1) Can durian extract function as an alternative battery to power-up an LED light
bulb?
2) Can kamias extract function as an alternative battery to power-up an LED light
bulb?
3) When the kamias’ and durian’s extract combined, power-up an LED light bulb?
4) How effective is the durian extract, kamias extract, as an alternative battery when
compared to one another in terms of:
a. voltage production
b. light production
Hypothesis:
The researchers hypothesized that kamias and durian extract are good
battery alternatives in lighting up an LED light bulb.

Experimental Design:
 Control Variables
1. LED light bulb
2. other materials to be used connecting wires, copper wires, plain sheets

 Manipulated Variable
1. Alternative battery
a. Durian extract
b. Kamias extract

 Responding Variables
1. voltage production
2. light production

Materials:
 Durian and Kamias  Set-up
