EUCHARISTIC CELEBRATION
MASS FOR VOCATIONS TO HOLY ORDERS

EUCHARISTIC CELEBRATION

THE INTRODUCTORY RITES

When the people are gathered, the Bishop approaches the altar with the ministers
while the Entrance Chant is sung.

When he has arrived at the altar, after making a profound bow with the ministers, the
Bishop venerates the altar with a kiss and, if appropriate, incenses the cross and the
altar.

Then, with the ministers, he goes to the chair.

GREETING

When the Entrance Chant is concluded, the Bishop and the faithful, standing, sign
themselves with the Sign of the Cross, while the Bishop, facing the people, says:

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit
R. Amen.
Extending his hands, greets the people, saying:
Peace be with you.
R. And with your spirit.

Commentator:
Please be seated as we listen to the words of welcome of Rev. Fr.
Raymond Songyap, the San Pablo Seminary Spiritual Director.

INTRODUCTION TO THE CELEBRATION

A suitable minister briefly introduces the celebration.

(Rev. Fr. Raymond Songyap)

2
PENITENTIAL ACT

Then follows the Penitential Act, to which the Bishop invites the faithful, saying:
Brethren (brothers and sisters), let us acknowledge our sins,
and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries.
A brief pause for silence follows. Then all recite together the formula of general confession:

I confess to almighty God

and to you, my brothers and sisters,
that I have greatly sinned,
in my thoughts and in my words,
in what I have done and in what I have failed to do,
And, striking their breast, they say:
through my fault, through my fault,
through my most grievous fault;

therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin,

all the Angels and Saints,
and you, my brothers and sisters,
to pray for me to the Lord our God.

The absolution of the bishop follows:

May Almighty God have mercy on us,

forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life.

R. Amen

KYRIE, ELEISON (sung)

GLORIA

The Bishop intones the Gloria, and the assembly sings.

Gloria in excelsis Deo!

3
COLLECT

Bishop:
Let us pray.
Pause for silent prayer.

O God, who willed to provide shepherds for your people,

pour out in your Church a spirit of piety and fortitude,
to raise up worthy ministers for your altars
and make them ardent yet gentle heralds of your Gospel.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
R. Amen.

LITURGY OF THE WORD

READING I

Speak, LORD, for your servant is listening.

A reading from the first Book of Samuel 3:1-10

During the time young Samuel was minister to the LORD under Eli, a
revelation of the LORD was uncommon and vision infrequent. One day
Eli was asleep in his usual place. His eyes had lately grown so weak that
he could not see. The lamp of God was not yet extinguished, and Samuel
was sleeping in the temple of the LORD where the ark of God was.

The LORD called to Samuel, who answered, “Here I am.” Samuel ran to
Eli and said, “Here I am. You called me.” “I did not call you,” Eli said. “Go
back to sleep.” So he went back to sleep. Again the LORD called Samuel,
who rose and went to Eli. “Here I am,” he said. “You called me.” But Eli
answered, “I did not call you, my son. Go back to sleep.”

At that time Samuel was not familiar with the LORD, because the LORD
had not revealed anything to him as yet. The LORD called Samuel again,
for the third time. Getting up and going to Eli, he said, “Here I am. You
called me.” Then Eli understood that the LORD was calling the youth. So
he said to Samuel, “Go to sleep, and if you are called, reply, ‘Speak, LORD,
for your servant is listening.’” When Samuel went to sleep in his place, the
LORD came and revealed his presence, calling out as before, “Samuel,
Samuel!” Samuel answered, “Speak, for your servant is listening.”

The word of the Lord.

R. Thanks be to God.

5
RESPONSORIAL PSALM Psalm 40:2 and 4ab, 7-8a, 8b-9, 10, 12

R: Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will.

I have waited, waited for the LORD,

and he stooped toward me and heard my cry.
And he put a new song into my mouth,
a hymn to our God. R.

Sacrifice or oblation you wished not,

but ears open to obedience you gave me.
Burnt offerings or sin-offerings you sought not;
then said I, “Behold I come.” R.

“In the written scroll it is prescribed for me.

To do your will is my delight;
my God, your law is in my heart!” R.

I announced your justice in the vast assembly;

I did not restrain my lips, as you, O LORD, know. R.

Withhold not, O LORD, your compassion from me;

may your mercy and your truth ever preserve me. R.

GOSPEL VENERATION, PROCESSION AND ACCLAMATION

After the Bishop has blessed the Deacon, the latter takes the Book of the Gospels from the
altar and raises it aloft. The Deacon processes to the ambo and proclaims the Gospel.

Alleluia

I chose you from the world,

to go and bear fruit that will last, says the Lord.
See John 15:16
Alleluia

6
GOSPEL Mt. 9:35-38

Priest:
The Lord be with you.
R. And with your spirit.

 A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew

Jesus went around to all the towns and villages,

teaching in their synagogues,
proclaiming the Gospel of the Kingdom,
and curing every disease and illness.
At the sight of the crowds, his heart was moved with pity for them
because they were troubled and abandoned,
like sheep without a shepherd.
Then he said to his disciples,
“The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few;
so ask the master of the harvest
to send out laborers for his harvest.”

The Gospel of the Lord.

As the assembly sings again the Gospel acclamation, the priest/deacon carries the
book of the Gospels to the Bishop who, as a sign of reverence, kisses it and blesses
the congregation.

HOMILY

7
RITE OF INVESTITURE OF SACRED GARBS

Commentator:
In the ceremony that follows, we shall see the external
transformation of these young men who will receive the cassock.
This sacred garb, which they will put on signifies their readiness,
determination, and dedication to follow the Lord and live life of
discipleship.
After the homily, two servers place a chair in front of the altar for the Bishop.

CALLING OF THE CANDIDATES

Then the seminary rector presents the seminarians to be invested to the Bishop.

Fr. Rolly:

INSTRUCTION

Bishop:
My dear seminarians,
the cassock is an outward sign of your response
to the priestly vocation to which God has called you
in His goodness and love. This clerical garment
signifies that the Church accepts and considers you
as one whom the Lord may have destined
to serve in the order of priests.
Wear it as an expression of your desire
to grow more like Christ,
constant, faithful and selfless.
Bear in mind always that without God’s grace,
we are unworthy, feeble and unfit to respond to His call.
Let your response be nourished
by constant prayer and discernment of God’s will.

10
BLESSING OF THE CANDIDATES

Commentator: Let us stand.

Bishop:
Dear friends in Christ,
let us pray with confidence to the Father
and ask Him to bless  these His servants
so that they may prepare themselves
to serve Christ faithfully in His Body, the Church.
All pray in silence for a brief period.

BLESSING OF THE CASSOCKS

Bishop:
Merciful Father,
in baptism we have been clothed with a new self in Christ.
Bless  these cassocks and surplices
and look with love on your servants who will wear them.
You have inspired our brothers
with the resolve to follow your Son more closely.
Grant that they may respond faithfully to their vocation
and be constantly renewed in Christ
in their whole-hearted offering of self.

Through Christ our Lord.

R./ Amen.

The celebrant sprinkles with holy water the candidates and the cassocks and incenses
these. After this, the candidates stand.

11
INVESTITURE WITH THE CASSOCKS

Commentator: Please be seated.

The assembly sits while the candidates receive their cassock from the Bishop.

Bishop:

N., receive this cassock

as a sign of your commitment to your priestly formation.
Honor, worship and serve God
the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
The candidate responds:
Amen.

After all candidates have received their cassocks, they go out of the chapel to put on their
cassock. Meanwhile, the choir sings an appropriate song.

The candidates garbed with the cassock are accompanied by their parents or guardian in
a procession towards the altar.

The assembly joins the newly invested seminarians in their commitment song. As soon
as the singing is over, the Bishop invites the faithful they all kneel to say a prayer to
respond to the priestly vocation.

COMMITMENT SONG

-----------------------

12
Commentator:
To the newly invested seminarians, please kneel as you pray the
Act of Consecration.

ACT OF CONSECRATION

Most merciful Father, with deepest reverence we return you

thanks, that at no period of our lives you have ceased to shower your
benefits upon us, and that you have called us to seminary life.
Therefore, we renounce the vanities of the world and consecrate
ourselves to your service. In order to render ourselves more worthy
of the apostolic life, we will strive to acquire those virtues which
priests should possess, in order to promote the salvation of souls.

We promise also to observe seminary rules, the guides towards

a sound Christian community of disciples and to obey the directives
of our seminary formators as our expressions of our obedience to
Your Divine Will. O Holy Spirit, do enlighten our understanding,
strengthen our will, create in us a new heart so that we may advance
from day to day in the virtues requisite for the priestly life. By the
help of your grace, do teach us that we may never be shaken by
temporal motives in our holy resolution.

May St. Paul, our seminary patron; St. Therese of the Child
Jesus, our class patron; and the Blessed Virgin Mary, our Mother,
through Jesus Christ, our Lord whose habit this day we take upon
ourselves, assist us.

Amen.

Bishop:
As a sign of our acceptance and support to our brothers who are
newly vested with the cassock, let us give them a warm round of
applause.
The newly invested seminarians acknowledge the sign of acceptance and support.

13
Commentator: We all rise.
PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL
Bishop:
We now turn to the Father in prayer, confident that he will hear us
and will respond in love. Let us pray to him and say:
Bless us, O Lord.
1. For Pope Francis, our Bishop Victor, and all who share in the leadership ministry
of the Church: may they continue to serve our Church wisely, and encourage men
and women to take responsible leadership at many levels in the life of the Church,
thereby enabling them to fulfill their Christian vocation to serve their brothers and
sisters. We pray to the Lord.
2. For all priests; may they remain close to Christ and lovingly serve the people
entrusted to their care. We pray to the Lord.
3. For those who lead the nations of the world: May they may work for justice, truth,
forgiveness and lasting peace for our world community, and work tirelessly to
address the plight of refugees and victims of war, and redress the balance between
the poor and rich nations. We pray to the Lord.
4. For those who are parents and teachers: May they nurture faith, prayer, and love
for you, and cultivate an environment in homes and schools in which ordained
ministry and consecrated life are valued, and explored as a possibility for their
children's vocation. We pray to the Lord.
5. For those whom God is calling to the priesthood, especially our newly invested
brothers: may they respond with courage and conviction. May our seminarians
persevere in their discernment and formation, and receive the support of their
families, friends, and parish community. We pray to the Lord.
6. For all those priests who served God on earth and have gone before us to the
kingdom of heaven: may we remember them with love and may they rest from
their labors and continue to intercede for us and bless us with their prayers at the
heavenly banquet. We pray to the Lord.
Bishop:
Father,
teach us to follow Christ your Son more faithfully.
By listening to his voice
may we become a community
more attuned to your call in our lives.
We ask you to hear the prayers we make to you today
and to grant them through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
R. Amen.

14
LITURGY OF THE EUCHARIST

When all this has been done, the Offertory Chant begins. Meanwhile, the ministers
place the corporal, the purificator, the chalice, the pall, and the Missal on the altar.
It is desirable that the faithful express their participation by making an offering,
bringing forward bread and wine for the celebration of the Eucharist and perhaps
other gifts to relieve the needs of the Church and of the poor.
The Bishop, standing at the altar, takes the paten with the bread and holds it slightly
raised above the altar with both hands, saying in a low voice:

Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation,

for through your goodness we have received
the bread we offer you:
fruit of the earth and work of human hands,
it will become for us the bread of life.

Then he places the paten with the bread on the corporal.

If, however, the Offertory Chant is not sung, the Bishop may speak these words aloud;
at the end, the people may acclaim:

Blessed be God for ever.

The Deacon, or the Bishop, pours wine and a little water into the chalice, saying
quietly:

By the mystery of this water and wine

may we come to share in the divinity of Christ
who humbled himself to share in our humanity.

The Bishop then takes the chalice and holds it slightly raised above the altar with both
hands, saying in a low voice:

Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation,

for through your goodness we have received
the wine we offer you:
fruit of the vine and work of human hands,
it will become our spiritual drink.

Then he places the chalice on the corporal. If, however, the Offertory Chant is not
sung, the Bishop may speak these words aloud; at the end, the people may acclaim:
Blessed be God for ever.

15
After this, the Bishop, bowing profoundly, says quietly:

With humble spirit and contrite heart

may we be accepted by you, O Lord,
and may our sacrifice in your sight this day
be pleasing to you, Lord God.
If appropriate, he also incenses the offerings, the cross, and the altar. A Deacon or
other minister then incenses the Bishop and the people.

Then the Bishop, standing at the side of the altar, washes his hands, saying quietly:

Wash me, O Lord, from my iniquity

and cleanse me from my sin.
Standing at the middle of the altar, facing the people, extending and then joining his
hands, he says:

Pray, brethren (brothers and sisters),

that my sacrifice and yours
may be acceptable to God,
the almighty Father.

The people rise and reply:

May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands

for the praise and glory of his name,
for our good
and the good of all his holy Church.

16
PRAYER OVER THE GIFTS

Bishop:
Look kindly, we pray, O Lord,
on the prayers and offerings of your people,
that the stewards of your mysteries may grow in number
and persevere always in your love.
Through Christ our Lord.

R. Amen.

17
EUCHARISTIC PRAYER
God Guides His Church along the Way of Salvation

V. The Lord be with you.

R. And with your spirit.

V. Lift up your hearts.

R. We lift them up to the Lord.

V. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

R. It is right and just.

It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation,

always and everywhere to give you thanks,
Lord, holy Father,
creator of the world and source of all life.

For you never forsake the works of your wisdom,

but by your providence are even now at work in our midst.
With mighty hand and outstretched arm
you led your people Israel through the desert.
Now, as your Church makes her pilgrim journey in the world,
you always accompany her
by the power of the Holy Spirit
and lead her along the paths of time
to the eternal joy of your Kingdom,
through Christ our Lord.

And so, with the Angels and Saints,

we, too, sing the hymn of your glory,
as without end we acclaim:
SANCTUS

The assembly sings the Sanctus.

18
The Priest, with hands extended, says:

You are indeed Holy and to be glorified, O God,

who love the human race
and who always walk with us on the journey of life.
Blessed indeed is your Son,
present in our midst
when we are gathered by his love
and when, as once for the disciples, so now for us,
he opens the Scriptures and breaks the bread.
He joins his hands and, holding them extended over the offerings, says:

Therefore, Father most merciful,

we ask that you send forth your Holy Spirit
to sanctify these gifts of bread and wine,
He joins his hands and makes the Sign of the Cross once over the bread and chalice
together, saying:

that they may become for us

the Body and  Blood
He joins his hands.

of our Lord Jesus Christ.

In the formulas that follow, the words of the Lord should be pronounced clearly and
distinctly, as the nature of these words requires.

On the day before he was to suffer,

on the night of the Last Supper,
He takes the bread and, holding it slightly raised above the altar, continues:

he took bread and said the blessing,

broke the bread and gave it to his disciples, saying:
He bows slightly.

TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND EAT OF IT,

FOR THIS IS MY BODY,
WHICH WILL BE GIVEN UP FOR YOU.
He shows the consecrated host to the people, places it again on the paten, and
genuflects in adoration.

19
After this, he continues:

In a similar way, when supper was ended,

He takes the chalice and, holding it slightly raised above the altar, continues:

he took the chalice, gave you thanks

and gave the chalice to his disciples, saying:
He bows slightly.

TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND DRINK FROM IT,

FOR THIS IS THE CHALICE OF MY BLOOD,
THE BLOOD OF THE NEW AND ETERNAL COVENANT,
WHICH WILL BE POURED OUT FOR YOU AND FOR MANY
FOR THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS.
DO THIS IN MEMORY OF ME.
He shows the chalice to the people, places it on the corporal, and genuflects in
adoration.

Then he says:

The mystery of faith.

And the people continue, acclaiming:

We proclaim your Death, O Lord,

and profess your Resurrection
until you come again.

20
CELEBRANT WITH CONCELEBRANTS

Then the Priest, with hands extended, says:

Therefore, Holy Father,

as we celebrate the memorial of Christ your Son, our Savior,
whom you led through his Passion and Death on the Cross
to the glory of the Resurrection,
and whom you have seated at your right hand,
we proclaim the work of your love until he comes again
and we offer you the Bread of life
and the Chalice of blessing.

Look with favor on the oblation of your Church,

in which we show forth
the paschal Sacrifice of Christ that has been handed on to us,
and grant that, by the power of the Spirit of your love,
we may be counted now and until the day of eternity
among the members of your Son,
in whose Body and Blood we have communion.

CONCELEBRANT I
And so, having called us to your table, Lord,
confirm us in unity,
so that, together with Francis our Pope and Victor our Bishop,
with all Bishops, Priests and Deacons,
and your entire people,
as we walk your ways with faith and hope,
we may strive to bring joy and trust into the world.

CONCELEBRANT II
Remember our brothers and sisters (N. and N.),
who have fallen asleep in the peace of your Christ,
and all the dead, whose faith you alone have known.
Admit them to rejoice in the light of your face,
and in the resurrection give them the fullness of life.
Grant also to us,
when our earthly pilgrimage is done,
that we may come to an eternal dwelling place

21
and live with you forever;
there, in communion with the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God,
with the Apostles and Martyrs,
with Saint Therese of the Child Jesus and Saint Paul,
and with all the Saints,
we shall praise and exalt you
He joins his hands.

through Jesus Christ, your Son.

He takes the chalice and the paten with the host and, raising both, he says:

Through him, and with him, and in him,

O God, almighty Father,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
all glory and honor is yours,
for ever and ever.
The people acclaim:

Amen.

22
COMMUNION RITE

THE LORD’S PRAYER

Bishop:
At the Savior’s Command
and formed by divine teaching,
we dare to say:
The assembly sings the Our Father.

Our Father, who art in heaven,

hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread,

and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.

The Bishop with hands extended, continues alone:

Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil,

graciously grant peace in our day
that, by the help of your mercy,
we may be always free from sin
and safe from all distress,
as we await the blessed hope
and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
R/ For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours, now and forever.

23
SIGN OF PEACE

Bishop:
Lord Jesus Christ,
who said to your Apostles:
Peace I leave you, my peace I give you.
Look not on our sins, but on the faith of your Church,
and graciously grant her the peace and unity
in accordance with your will
who live for ever and ever.
R. Amen.
Bishop:
The peace of the Lord be with you always.
R. And with your spirit.

Deacon:
Let us offer each other the sign of peace.
All present make an appropriate sign of peace.

24
BREAKING OF THE BREAD

AGNUS DEI
The assembly sings the Agnus Dei.

Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world:

have mercy on us.
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world:
have mercy on us.
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world:
grant us peace.

Meanwhile, the Bishop takes the host and breaks it over the paten. He places a small
piece in the chalice, saying inaudibly:

May this mingling of the body and blood

of our Lord Jesus Christ
bring eternal life to us who receive it.

PRIVATE PREPARATION
The Bishop says inaudibly:

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the living God,

Who, by the will of the Father and the work of the Holy Spirit
Through your death gave life to the world.
free me by this, by your holy Body and Blood,
from all may sins and from every evil;
Keep me faithful to your commandments,
and never let me be parted from you.

25
COMMUNION
The Bishop genuflects. Taking the host, he raises it slightly over the paten and, facing
the people, says aloud:

Behold the Lamb of God

behold him who takes away the sins of the world.
Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.
R. Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof,
but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.

The Bishop says inaudibly:

May the body of Christ keep me safe for eternal life.

He reverently consumes the body of Christ. Then he takes the chalice and says
inaudibly:

May the blood of Christ keep me safe for eternal life.

He reverently drinks the blood of Christ.

After this he takes the paten or other vessel and goes to the communicants. He takes a
host for each one, raises it a little, and shows it, saying:

The Body of Christ.

R. Amen.

While the faithful receive Holy Communion, Eucharistic Hymns are sung.

Communion Antiphon Cf. Heb 6:4

Rejoice in the Lord, all you who have been enlightened,
who have tasted the gift from heaven
and have been made sharers in the Holy Spirit (E.T. alleluia).

26
PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION

Bishop:
Let us pray.
Pause for silent prayer.
Renewed with the Bread of the heavenly table,
we entreat you, O Lord,
that through this Sacrament of charity
the seeds you sow with great abundance
in the field of your Church
may come to maturity,
so that many may make it their choice in life
to serve you in their brothers and sisters.
Through Christ our Lord.
R. Amen.

Commentator:
Let us be seated.
We now listen to the words the class beadle of St. Therese of
the Child Jesus, Bro. Armando Labintas.

The Class Beadle delivers his message.

Commentator:
May we now listen to the Rector of San Pablo Seminary,
Fr. Roland P. Buyagan.

Rector delivers his message.

The commentator then announces the venue for the reception after the Holy Mass and
other announcements if necessary.

Commentator:
We all rise for the Blessing.

27
CONCLUDING RITE

Bishop:
The Lord be with you.
R. And with your spirit.

Deacon:
Bow for the blessing.
Bishop:
May God bless you with every heavenly blessing,
make you always holy and pure in his sight,
pour out in abundance upon you the riches of his glory,
and teach you with the words of truth;
may he instruct you in the Gospel of salvation,
and ever endow you with fraternal charity.

Through Christ our Lord.

R. Amen.

And may the blessing of Almighty,

 the Father, and
 the Son,
 and the Holy Spirit
come down on you and remain with you forever.
R. Amen.
