CHAPTER 1

The Problem and It’s Background

Introduction

According to (Folger 2004) there are number of ways to

approach in creating yearly budget. Some vary many prefer to

add up all income for the year and all expenses for the year,

and divide each category by 12 to come up with a monthly

average. Others may like to see each monthly indivi-dually, with

specific monthly income and expenses. Before you begin budget,

you may want to think about which system will work best for

you

When made realistically, a yearly budget is a tool that can

help you set and reach financial goals. With some effort on the

front end, your budget can be a source of inspiration to keep

your spending on track and your goals sight. Here are step by -

step instructions for creating your own yearly budget. (Folger

2004)
9

Background of the Study

Budgeting is the process of creating a plan to spend your

money. This spending plan is called a budget. Creating this

spending plan allows you to determine in advance whether you

will have enough money to do the things you need to do or

would like to do.

According to the definition of money coach, budgeting is

the process of creating a plan to spend your money or

monitoring your money, It means that budgeting is a strategy to

save money or minimizing the expenses you just get the right

amount that you need.

10

Statement of the Problem

( The following are the questions that the researchers need to

seek )

1. What are the budget plans of grade 11 tech-voc students

in their cook subjects.

Significance of the Study

The following are the beneficiaries of this research :

Students: The future researchers study will have a big

impact to students because of the study they will be

encourage to budget their money.

Teachers: Because there will be no more students that will

complain about their expenses and they can apply the

results to themselves also.

The Future Researchers: Future researchers may apply the

results of the research to themselves.

11

Scope and Delimitation

This research is only limited for grade 11 TECH-

VOC students of OC DPRO who tend to budget their

money. This research objective is to help the students to

manage their money in easy way as possible. The study

will help every students who struggles in managing their

money not just in there cook subject but also in their

everyday lives.

Chapter 2

Review of related Literature

Foreign Studies

In the study of Mara Rodriguez, budget is a quantitative

expressions of a plan for a defined of time. It may include planned

slaes volumes and revenues, resource quantities, cost and expenses,

assets, liabilities and cash flows ( Rodriguez, 2012 )

According to the Money Management a organization, when you

start spending your own money, it’s the time to track your spending so

that you can create and follow a personal budget. Keeping track of

your money is the best way to find out exactly where your money is

going.

The simplest way to keep track of your finances, especially your

money, is the low-tech way, with a notebook and pen. By carrying

around the notebook with you, you can track exactly every dollar is

going from a small to large amount of money.

15

Once you have collected all the information for about a month,

you’ll have a good baseline of information to use to create your

personal budget.

According to ( Badu, 2011 ) a budget is a functional statement

prepared prior to a predetermined period of time of the policy to be

pursued during that period for the purpose of obtaining given

objectives. Budgeting and budgetary control systems plays a leading

role in every company or institution by helping in establishing an

efficient management control system for creating sustainable

competitive advantage. The aim of this study is to conduct research

concerning the budgeting practice in Ernest Chemist, a

pharmaceutical company based in Ghana, and identify the perception

of the budgeting experts in the company and assess their views

towards the current status of the company.

According to ( Carms, 2004 ) many college students are struggling

in managing their finances on their own. So it’s important to compare

banking options on campus minimize hassles as well as costly fess.

16

Many college students have a agreement with banks or other

financial institutions to promote – sponsored accounts to students.

Students may even get information about banking options by email

before they arrive on campus. Banks see campuses as fertile ground

for establishing relationships.

Local Literature

As studied by (Alexandra 2001). Most college students are

living on a budget. If not, they are likely the students who have

enough to survive the whole year without worrying about their

allowances running out or the students who are simply just getting

themselves into cycle of dept. By budgeting you will become smarter

about the way you consume your money. Be wary of your spending

and keep yourself away from getting tangled up on the dept. Bear in

mind that the key to financial success is to be well aware of how you

are spending your money. Know that there is a certain line between

being cheap and having spending savvy. There is nothing wrong with

living within your means, rather than beyond them.

17

According to the studies by MAPUA budgeting is a challenging

task for anyone, even more so for students. Especially if you are

studying in the city, say a university in manila, and whether its

architecture, civil engineering, medicine, or the sciences that you are

taking, the fact remains, money management is still a part of

everything life. You have to calculate the amount of money you need

for food commute, dorm fees, and school related expenses while

having little to no income knowing how much money you should

spends and where you should spend it on is very important. Being

able to manage your finances is a sign of maturity and has its rewards.

It is better to start learning it early.

Foreign Literature

According to ( Finkler & Ward, 2011 ) a budget is just but a

plan; a formalized documented plan. They act as roadmaps of
indicating the directions given by budgetary plans, the management is
able to steer an organization towards achieving its goals and
objectives. In the light of this, budgeting thus is the process involving
the development, implementation, and controlling of the outcomes of
a budgetary plan.
18

In the study of ( Achim, 2009 )the term budget is seen as

representing a list (a document) in which are placed face to face
predictable revenues and expenditures of a particular economic entity,
for a specified period. This approach corresponds to reality, but at a
more detailed analysis, this expression reflects a methodological
category specific to finance, seen as a scientific discipline. Under this,
budget can be interpreted as a general finance specific methodological
process through which, it highlights how formation and sizing of
financial resources it is done in particular economic entities, on the
one hand, and the distribution to various destinations of resources for
the fulfillment of predetermined targets, on the other hand.

According to ( Agu Chika E, 2006) budgeting is a familiar and

very important type of short range plan; a plan that is expressed in a
numerical terms how the resources of a company can be distributed to
attain a desired profit. Since working out a budget force a company to
determine how much money will be coming in, what cost will be
incurred, it searves a dual purpose to become a controlling as well as a
planning operation. And since the budget is a guideline to what will
take place over a lengthly period of time, a great deal of careful
thought must go into its planning.
19

Local studies

According to (Hoyt, 2004). City a leading bank, and seventeen,

a monthly college teen magazine, conducted a survey’s of more than

1,000 high school seniors and college students to learn more about

students, spending and saving habits. Managing college costs. The

surveys found that nearly four out of five students are working their

way through school 19 hours per week on average, with the majority

also taking responsibility by using their own funds for college

expenses. As a result, the cost of college is a large factor n choosing a

school attends. 77 percent of student reported that cost played an

important role in determining what school they apply to or attend. For

the most part, students are trying to take control of their finances.

Nearly 62 percent of student have adopted a budget to help them keep

track of expenses and a whopping 77 percent pay their own credit card

bills.

Based on the study of (Mark, 2006). Philippines for many

parents, the question of how much school allowance should they give

their children is a lingering one. By Philstar computation parents

20

could spend anywhere between P25,000 and P30,000 computed at

three times a week of classes for 18 weeks of two semester at P250

allowance per school year. College school students typically get P150

to P250 excluding transport allowance per day. Student from

exclusive schools like. Atenco and DLSU receive where surroundings

places to eat tend to be more expensive receive higher allowance. The

allowance covers P50 to P100 for lunch, P30 to P50 for merienda, P20

on average for photocopies, and P50 to P80 for school requirements

like printing, buying pens etc.

According to (Elfren, 2009). There were lots of student get

excited in buying something even though they are unsure if they really

need that thing. This is because they are not the ones who earn the

money they used but there will come a time that they will learn. Do

not let this happen to you as early as now, learn to think before you

buy curtain’s things. There are a lot of alternatives to everything it’s

just a matter of diskarte and discipline.

21

Chapter 3

Research Methodolgy

This chapter shall discuss the research methods available for the

study and what is applicable for the statement of the problem in

chapter 1 which is directed towards where if budget planning is one of

the factors needed to be successful in managing and successful life

Likewise this chapter presents the various procedures and

strategies in identifying sources for needed information on the

analysis and evaluation of the students to know the budget plans and

expenses in their cook subjects.

Thus, this part of the study specifies the method used on

research, research design, respondents of the study, data gathering

procedures, population and sampling techniques, and instruments

used.

This study aims to determine that budget planning has a big

factor for students to become successful withing Olivarez College for

conducting answers by interviewing.

22

Research Design

For this study, the phenomenology-qualitative research design

has been utilized. The researchers applied the phenomenology method

because a phenomenological research study attempts to understand

peoples’ perceptions, perspective and understanding of a particular

situation. This method is perfectly fit to ascertain that budget planning

has a big factor for attaining a successful plan for their expenses.

The descriptive research method is being used because it uses

surveys that fit in the researchers study. All respondents answers the

same questions so that answers can easily compared and trends

observed. In addition, the researchers use structured interview because

its easy for the respondents to answer it and they can easily

understand it.
23

Respondents of the Study

In this study, the respondents are students of grade 11 tech voc

students of Olivarez College. These people are ready to share their

story of how they overcome the struggle in budgeting their expenses

in their cook subjects. The respondents are the Grade 11 students

under tech voc culinary. For this study, the reserachers have gather 5

students of tech voc culinary to participate our interview and it was

conducted within Olivarez College.

Population and Sampling Techniques

The researchers used to get the complete information about the

strategies that the students used to overcome the struggle of budgeting

the expenses in their cook subjects. The researchers used simple

random sampling technique method. This used because the

researchers believe that they can get reliable data from the

respondents that can help analyze the problem. This type of sampling

can be very useful in situations when people needs ro reach a targeted

sample quickly, and where sampling for proportionally is not the main

concern.
24

Data Gathering Procedures

The gathering/collecting of data in this study has divided into 4

stages. The first stage is to create questions that fit in our research.

The the researchers will transcript the questions that have made and

the answers that the respondents will share.

In this stage, the researchers seek permission of the chosen

respondents to answer the questions that the researchers made. As the

respondents answer all the questions the researchers need to analyze

and gather all the information to know the best answer that fit and the

most convenient answer that will satisfy the statement of the problem

of this study.

Chapter 4

Interpretation Discussion and Analysis of Data

In this chapter, the data gathered will be presented in a

systematical order and well organize manner so that the reader will be

able to understand well about this research in the budget planning of

Tech-VOC students .The researcher will also explain the

interpretation from the results item by item.

Data Interpretation

Below is the transcription of the interview that was

conducted by the researchers to the respondents. The researchers

changed the respondents name into RNA,R represents as

respondent,N for the number, and third letter represents the first letter

of the respondent this is for the research's confidentiality clause.

Question Number 1: "How do you manage your money for your

expenses in cook subjects?''

"Pano mo binabadyet ang iyong pera para sa mga gastosin sa iyong

mga asignatura sa pagluluto?"

27

R1J: "Bilang isang estudyante mahalagang magtipid para sa ibang

bagay na bayarin sa school"

"As a student, saving my money is important to other expenses in the

school."

"I will find out first what are the things that I need to buy (laughs)

then I will find out what is the price, what is the things that I will use

and how much I need in those expenses ."

R3G: "Im not into budgeting because i have a lot of money (laughs)

im just joking, I just came on saving up money so I can have a lot of

money, the only strategy that I use is having a piggy bank"

28

R4A:"So first of all I list down all the ingredients then ahhm I will

find out how much are those things or how much all the ingredients

cost "

R5S: Wala, binabadyet ko lang yung pera ko.

“ Nothing I just budget my money ”

Question Number 2: "As a student why do you think budgeting

your money is important?"

" Sa tingin mo bilang isang estudyante bakit mahalaga ang

pagbabadyet ng iyong pera?"

R1J: "Para may gastos ka sa mga ibang bagay na gusto mong bilihin

sa pagkain, sa tubig, pamasahe lahat importante."

"To have expenses in other things that you want like food, water, and

fare all are important"

"Ofcourse you need to manage your money to know where do you

spent your money that you need."

29

R3G: "Ahm because if ever you need a money for the future you have

a money to pick on because you have a saving, if ever you have

something to buy or on school projects, that’s all."

R4A: “So i think budgeting is very important for everyone as a

student because how will you budget your allowance? for example

how will you budget your allowance for the whole week? everybody

needs to know that not everyone gives their parents a allowance so

that budgeting is very important to all of us.”

mo bilang isang estudyante."

"Its important because you need it when you budget espescially when

you are a techvoc student the culinary is your strand or your track

(laughs) to manage your money well, as a student ."

30

Question Number 3: " Does budget planning has a big factor in

your daily life as a student ?"

"Ang pagbabadyet planning ba ay may malaking factor sa iyong araw

araw na buhay bilang isang estudyante?"

R1J: "oo kasi may nabibili pa akong pagkain at para may babaonin

pako sa susunod na araw."

"Yes because i can buy foods and I can have still my allowance until

the next day."

"Ofcourse budgeting help me a lot because what what to less my

expenses that’s all."

R3G: "Ofcourse it do have a lot of help because as a student we all

need money for some expenses in school like in laboratories, we cant

go there without a budget."

31

R4A: "because does thing my allowance, is very important to me and

for everybody because that’s my key to survive because that the only

money that my parents give to me so that why."

pera bilang estudyante espescially estudyante kapa kailangan mo

talagang matuto sa pagbabadyet ng pera."

"Ofcourse it has a big help in budgeting money as a student

espescially you are still a student you need to learn how to budget

money ."

"Ang pagbubudget planning ba ay may malaking factor sa iyong araw

araw na buhay bilang isang estudyante?"

32

Discussion and Data Analysis

The researcher's main goal is to find the most probable

answer to the study's statement of the problem through the analysis of

the data gathered from the respondents.

In the first question, all of the respondents answers is very

similar to each other because they said that they budget their money

based on what they need.

In the second question, all of respondents answers are

similar that budgeting their money is important they just don’t have

the same reasons, example for respondent 5 she said that budgeting is

important espescially for students of tech voc culinary.

In the third question, all the respondents answer that

budgeting their money is helping them a lot. Example for respondent

4 he value budgeting a lot because budgeting help him a lot he said

that because of budgeting he can survive a week.

33

As studied by (Alexandra 2001). Most college students are

living on a budget. If not, they are likely the students who have

enough to survive the whole year without worrying about their

allowances running out or the students who are simply just getting

themselves into cycle of dept. By budgeting you will become smarter
