Learning Outcome

Upon completion of this assignment, students should be able to :

i. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of entrepreneurial management.

ii. Develop a capacity for informed critical understanding of environmental


conditions and the ability to analyze current trends.

iii. Demonstrate entrepreneurial activities and competence building.

iv. Demonstrate an understanding of the strategy process.

Assignment Specifications

This assignment contributes 50% of the total assessment marks for this module. Students
are required to create an original and credible business plan (of about 2500 words). The
business plan should be developed based on a firm understanding of the various business
concepts and key aspects of management of a business entity with thorough application
of the knowledge gained from the topics learnt.

Students should include the following:

1. Table of contents
2. Preliminary details
3. Executive summary
4. Current situation
5. Industry analysis
6. Description of your project or venture
7. Operational and production plan
8. Marketing plan
9. Human resource plan
10. Assessment of risks
11. Financial plan
12. Bibliography
13. Appendix

 A table of contents
 A brief synopsis of the plan in an executive summary
(to include the name of the company)
 The detailed description of the business concept
 Its visions, objectives and mission statement

 The strategies(marketing, human resources etc)


 The analysis of the environment
 Financial Projections
 Sources of funds or financing
 Details on resources utilized

Assessment Method

The following assessment scheme will be adopted in order to evaluate the elements
above:

- Business Idea (15%)


This criterion evaluates the overall uniqueness of the idea, degree of challenge and
attractiveness, value proposition to the potential market and innovation level.

- Proposal Strength (15%)


Marks will be awarded for the quality of the plan as it should be convincing to the reader.
This is done by ensuring that proper explanations are given that are supported by factual
research and thorough application of concepts. Critical and analytical thinking is
expected with overall maturity in presentation of the plan. Clear discussion using own
ideas and words.

- Application of Business Concepts (10%)


On this ground students will be assessed on their overall business knowledge and ability
to utilize business information and concepts to add credibility to the business plan.

- Strategic Development (20%)


This criterion measures the rationale of the strategies employed within the proposal. Does
the proposal address the question of where the business is heading in the short and long
term? How is the business tackling the market and against its competitors? What are
some critical entrepreneurial issues anticipated and more importantly what are the
solutions proposed? Theoretical and conceptual application of strategy for the
development of the business venture should be clearly shown and expounded.

- Structure (15%)
This refers to the overall structure and organization of the proposal points within the
documentation. Do the argument and proposal points flow from one point to the other?
Does the whole documentation fit the structure of a proposal? Text should be edited in a
consistent style.This includes the formatting and style of the writer.

- Research, Citation & References (15%)


The amount of research done that is reflected in the documentation. The quality of
sources used (must be credible sources, i.e. not merely relying on unreliable Internet
resources). Marks will be given for proper use of citation within the body text of the

document and for the list of references at the end. This includes also the materials
appearing in the appendices, in terms of its relevance.

- Language Usage (10%)


Marks allocated for the clarity of sentences and thought. This criterion ensures that
spelling and grammatical mistakes are kept minimal, and it measures the level of proof-
reading done on the documentation prior to submission.

Additional Notes

• You are free to select any nature of business that interests you (eg: computers,
music, sports, cosmetics, gifts, event etc)
• You are advised to conceptualize your business plan thoroughly before putting it
down on paper
• You are encouraged to use proper headings to differentiate each point in your
plan.
• Students are advised to confirm draft points and information with the module
tutor half way into the assignment period.
• Students may only work as a group to discuss on format and application.
However, the submission of the report and work contents should be individually
done. Similar points, analysis and critique will be investigated and may be
penalised. You may not copy another student’s work in any way.

Marking Criteria

Marks are awarded based on the following guidelines:

Grade Description of performance level


75% – 100% You should be able to show good application of theories and concepts
covered in the subject. Your business plan should be well thought, with a
in depth analysis of all the necessary areas. It should have clearly written
points showing originality of thought. You provide correct citations for
resources used. No grammatical errors, spelling mistakes and appropriate
conclusion. Sufficient references from various sources and not primarily
from the Internet.
65% – 70% You should be able to show proper understanding of the theories and
concepts chosen from the topics covered in the subject. Your analysis are
clearly written and stated, although the contents may not be properly
described. Minimal citation problems relating to style and presentation.
Sufficient points noted on company performance and improvement

recommendations. Minor grammatical errors, spelling mistakes.


Sufficient references but not varied.
50% – 64% You should be able to show some understanding on theories and concepts
taught in the subject. Citation problems and minor referencing problems.
Grammatical errors and spelling mistakes. Poor references.
Below 40% You did not show understanding of the theories and concepts taught. No
analysis given or little relevant points were given., disregarding the
guidelines. Citation and referencing problems. Grammatical and spelling
mistakes. Minimum references, questionable sources.

Submission and Administrative Information

• Students should include the Coursework Submission and Feedback Form with
their submission. The lecturer will give the CSFF before the submission dates.
• Plagiarism is NOT acceptable Representation of another person's work as your
own, without acknowledgement of the source, for the purpose of satisfying formal
assessment requirements is considered plagiarism. The possible consequences of
plagiarism include:

 Reduced grade for this module


 Referral for this module
 Failure of this module
 Expulsion from the Institution

• You can avoid plagiarism by using correct referencing, attribution, and proper
research technique submission.
• All submissions must be made before the stipulated time. If the work is submitted
after this time it will be given 0 (zero).
• Wikipedia.com is not a valid nor reliable source for reference and will not be
accepted in the assignment.
• Assignments that significantly exceeds the word count will be penalised
(i.e. every additional 200 words will be penalised 2%)
• Supporting appendices,if any,should not exceed more than 4 pages.
