PROPOSED SPECIAL SCHOOL FOR THOSE WITH AUTISM

“SALIENT PLACE”

Before the recent improvements in SPED, many argued that the Department of
Education still had " a long way to go " in developing the program. The main problem
lies not on its curriculum, but in the lack of trained teachers, funds to begin with and
mostly SPED centers. In addition, the Zero Reject Policy, which pushes schools to
accept any child regardless of their conditions, was only implemented recently. Initially,
this did not directly improve reach for special needs students because most schools
were not equipped with a SPED program.

DepEd then issued an order for the funding of SPED centers in 2015. At the
time, only 2% of Filipino children with special needs were receiving government
support. Because of this, the government allocated 56% more funds than they did in
past year for SPED. As of 2017, 620 out of 34,000 public elementary are implementing
a SPED program. The shortage of trained teacher persists, with only 6,000 teachers
attending 239,00 special needs students. With this statistics, Vice President Leni
Robredo is now pushing for a law to be passed that require every public school to
have a SPED center.

Since the start of the Duterte administration, DepEd has increased its efforts to
provide higher quality and accessible education regardless of a student's learning
ability.

The aim of this study is to design and develop an efficient school wherein the
built of it will respond to the sensory needs of the children with autism spectrum
disorder wherein the built environment will provide therapeutic for the children. It is
intended to be accomplished through the integration of sensory sensitive approach.

PROPOSED NEW GENERAL EMILIO AGUINALDO MEMORIAL HOSPITAL

Hospitals play a very big role in society’s economic and social well-being. It is
important that the hospital carry out its mission of healing successfully. Hospitals are
designed not only support and aid safety of patients, quality patient care and advance
technology but also to embrace the patient, family and caregivers in a psycho-socially
supportive therapeutic environment.

There are numerous private and public hospital that provide state of art, green and
advance technology services that are catered and centered in Metro Manila while the
other provinces nearby lack most of these circumstances despite of being densely
populated as well.

The Department of Health (DOH) seeks to modernize at least twenty hospitals at a

total cost of about P40 billion in line with the aim of providing universal healthcare.
Teodoro Herbosa said at the United Kingdom Healthcare Conference that
modernization projects will be undertaken to improve delivery of services in DOH
hospitals also he said, “Our goal is to have all hospitals with the same standard of
care”. The potential modernization projects include the General Emilio Aguinaldo
Memorial Hospital the Cavite Provincial Hospital. Herbosa told reporters the
modernization of each hospital is estimated to cost at least P2 billion.

In Cavite there has been an explosion of population which also causes arising needs
of standard healthcare. There are also five (5) municipalities in Cavite which lack
hospitals and even the basic healthcare facilities due to lack of number of beds and
poor condition of the main building and its planning.

The redevelopment of general Emilio Aguinaldo Memorial Hospital is proposed not

only to cater a large number of patients but also promotes Green Architecture to
provide patients and staffs as well a relaxing and comfortable environment towards
faster healing.

PROPOSED HOME FOR NEGLECTED AND ABUSED ELDERLY IN

QUEZON CITY

The elderly population in the Philippines is steadily growing and is expected to

increase from 3.7 million of the total population in 1995 to a significant 11.3 million by
the year 2020 (NSO, 1995). It is therefore urgent to prepare the Filipino citizenry for a
productive ageing experience with their needs met and essential services delivered.
With this, it is important to dispel the myths associated with ageing that they are a
burden and dependent by emphasizing the positive contributions of older persons in
the family and in the community.

Under the measure, the home for the aged which would serve as a residential care
center for the persons aged 65 years old and above will be staffed with social workers
as well as health and administrative personnel who are trained at senior citizen care.
The ordinance classifies an elderly person as an indigent if his or his immediate
family income does not exceed P40,000 monthly.

A certification from the Department of Social Welfare and Development or

the local social services department is required for a neglected, abused, or abandoned
senior citizen to be admitted into the home. Three Quezon City councilors have filed
a proposed measure which seeks to establish a home for the aged for indigent senior
citizens, as well as those who are victims of abuse or abandoned by their families.
Filipinos have strong family ties but necessity calls to build a comfort place initiated
by the local government for protection of abandoned, neglected, and indigent elders
of Quezon City so as to provide comfort and care through their aging.
.

The study aims to provide a shelter that focuses in their medical, spiritual,
recreational, and dietary needs. The senior citizens will also be provided with other
basic necessities. According to the proposed measure, an elderly person may stay
with the home for the duration of his life unless his family decides to personally
take care of him.
