I. INTRODUCTION:

School is a place where the students studies. It is the area or space where the learners are at
ease to read, write, dance, sing and do other forms of studying. However, if the classrooms are too
crowded and it is not comfortable for the students to learn, then it is an issue to solve. That’s why I come
up with this research with Grade 10 students of sections Aguado, Conchu, Cabezas, Cabuco, and De
Ocampo also Melwin Amaro from grade 9 Narra, Jovelyn Alcazar from grade 8 Sampaguita and Nicole
Moraita from grade 7 Durian as my respondents for this study so that I can prove that “shifting” is the
main solution for the crowded situation in Luis Aguado National High School (LANHS) S.Y 2018-2019.

II. OBJECTIVES:

 To substantiate that “shifting” is the main solution for the crowded situation in Luis Aguado
National High School (LANHS) S.Y 2018-2019.
 To corroborate the that in S.Y 2015 (w/ shifting) is more comfortable compare to S.Y 2016 up to
this latest year 2019 (w/o shifting).
 To prove that there’s a positive conclusion if the students not suffering to crowded state in
his/her classroom.
1. Health condition

III. SCOPE/ LIMITATION

This research concentration is to ascertain that “shifting” is the main solution for the crowded
situation in Luis Aguado National High School (LANHS). This study, covers all the grade 10 students of
section Aguado, Conchu, Cabezas, Cabuco and De Ocampo in Luis Aguado National High School S.Y 2018-
2019 who experience the “shifting” method during our grade 7 year 2015 then change as “whole day”
that still being implemented this S.Y 2018-2019. Besides, Melwin Amaro from grade 9 Narra, Jovelyn
Alcazar from grade 8 Sampaguita and Nicole Moralita from grade 7 Durian will be my respondents from
other year level to discuss what they’ve experience inside they’re rooms on what is the effect on health
of an populated classroom. I execute my interview during break time, if it possible also for the period of
English subject and it aimed 5 days in the month of January. I will begin to gather data on 14th day of
January, one hour and thirty minutes per day and end it on the 18th day of the given month. Furthermore,
this study focus on how “shifting” will resolve our crowded situation as well to show the difference of
shifting to whole day and it’s effect on the students inside classroom.

Double-Shift High Schools and School Performance:Evidence from a Regression Discontinuity Design

Policymakers in developing countries often resort to double‐shift schooling system in order to

maximize schooling supply under tight budget constraints. There is however some concern that
this strategy trades off equality in school quality for cost effectiveness. Inthis paper we
investigate whether or not thisis the case. In order to overcome the selection problems in the
assignment to the different shifts, we exploit the discontinuity in the assignment of students to
the afternoon shift given their middle school GPA. Using data from administrative
records and a socioeconomic survey in a high school system in Mexico City, we find
that being assigned to the afternoon shift leads to a 12 percentage points increase in
the probability of dropping out for female students, and a
12.4 percentage points decrease in this probability for male
students. We then explore on the mechanisms behind this asymmetric
response, and conclude that women are more negatively affected by
worse peers than men, men respond more positively to having more
homogenous groups, and men respond more positively to theirrelative
ranking in their class than women.
The Goals and Purpose of Double Shift Schooling

The ultimate goal of double-shift schooling is to enhance access and reduce unit cost of schooling.
However, since some schools only achieve those goals at the expense of educational quality, policy
makers are faced with difficult choices when designing double-shift schools. Drawing on experiences in a
wide range of countries, this Paper highlights the advantages and problems of double-shift systems.
Comparison is made with single-shift systems. The paper is intended for both national and regional
policy makers and head-teachers, teacher and others responsible for running double-shift schools and
also for parents of double shift schools’ students. Double shift schooling resolves some of the tensions
experienced by children and parents between attending school, and the need to perform domestic and
farm Labour (Pamela Kea. 2007,P-27). “The magic word efficiency that is causing such a revolution in
industry is beginning to work in education. As in industry, so in education, efficiency is based on
complete knowledge. Those administrative officers have not yet demanded and obtained knowledge
sufficient to enable their school systems.” (J. Howard Hutchinson, 2009, P.4). n second-shift schools
morning group leaves the school before the next group arrives. In second-shift schools first group comes
early in the morning and leaves at just after mid-day; and second group arrives at mid-day and leaves in
the late afternoon. Timing of 1st shift and 2nd shift varies in winter and summer seasons benefits are
clear.

The health-related benefits of a later start time are numerous.

St. Paul Public Schools (SPPS) may follow in the footsteps of Minneapolis and Edina in changing their
high school start times to be later. University of Minnesota researcher Dr. Kyla Wahlstrom’s report,
“Examining the Impact of Later High School Start Times on the Health and Academic Performance of
High School Students: A Multi-Site Study” was released and reported on in late 2013 and has provided
the basis for SPPS’ proposed change.

Nick Stumo-Langer

The proposal for SPPS would start elementary schools at 7:30 a.m. and begin middle and high schools
classes at 8:30 a.m. Dr. Wahlstrom’s report contributes many strongly proven academic and health-
related benefits to shifting the start times. The study followed multiple, diverse school districts that
have implemented changes in start times including Edina and Minneapolis public school districts as well
as schools in Colorado and Wyoming. (The study includes more than 12,000 students surveyed on all of
the following figures and data). The health-related benefits of a start time change are numerous. With
the proposed 8:30 a.m start time, high school students will get approximately 8 hours of sleep a night.
Wahlstrom also reports a marked decrease in daily cigarette smoking (-9 percent), alcohol consumption
(-13.6 percent), marijuana use (-7.7 percent), sexual activity (-11.3 percent) and instances of depression
(-10.5 percent).Academically, the results are clear. There was a significant increase in the average GPA
of students during their first few periods of class in all four core subject areas: English, mathematics,
social studies, and science. Standardized test performances also benefited from the late start times and,
although they are only one measure of student performance, in a pre-post analysis, scores on both
standardized math tests

TO EXAMINE EFFECTS OF OVERCROWDED CLASS ROOMS TO ACADEMIC

PERFORMANCE IN SECONDARY SCHOOL

This study assessed on the effects of overcrowded class rooms in academic performances. The specific objectives

were, to determine the challenges facing teachers in teaching overcrowded classes, to examine relationship

between overcrowded classrooms and their performances and to identify and describe the alternative

methodology that the teachers use in teaching overcrowded classes. The study was conducted in four schools

namely, Caloocan primary school and Caloocan secondary school. A cross-sectional research design was used in

the study and sample size for the study was 40 respondents (10 respondents from each school). Purposive

sampling techniques were used to obtain respondents from each school.Generally, the study found that more

than 90% of teachers in Caloocan municipal where the research was conducted, it shows that most of teachers

are teaching overcrowding classes with more than 60 pupils in their classes. The remaining 10% of teachers are

teaching optional subjects which are science subjects (physics and chemistry) to form III and IV, basically these

teachers are teaching classes with few pupils due to the nature of the science subjects recommendation made is

shifting class’s sessions, this were suggested as an alternative way to deal with the situation where by the class

sessions are divided into two such that the first session start from 07:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and the other session

starts from 12:00 p.m. to 05:00 p.m. Further studies should be done to see if overcrowding classes is one of the

reasons for mass failures of pupils in schools.

Decoding double shift effects on pupils, parents and teachers’ lived experiences: Alternative inputs for
policy improvement.

This study explored the impact of a month-long morning and afternoon shifting class sessions for the
grade four students and teachers including how the students’ parents perceive the double-shift class
system to be. It employed an exploratory qualitative case study approach in examining participants’
views, adjustments, and experiences toward the morning and afternoon shifting session. Multiple data
from teachers’ focus group discussions, students’ journal entries, and survey of parents’ views were
both triangulated and thematically analyzed. Outside the context of densely populated areas where
double shifts are common, findings relatively revealed more favorable conditions for students’ activities
and behaviors inside and outside the schools, combination of more positive thoughts than dissenting
views of parents, and generally more favorable instructional and preparation related affordances for
teachers. Lessons, adjustments and insights found are also shared in the process.
VII. HYPOTHESIS

This research will corroborate that “shifting” is the main solution for the crowded situation in
Luis Aguado National High School S.Y 2018-2019.This study will going to verify that “shifting” will able to
benefit every students for them to have a comfort state in they’re classroom so that students will learn
to a uncrowded place happy and relaxed also for the learners not to skip classes cause of having illness
that may be the effect of crowded situation in classroom.

This research will corroborate that “shifting” is not the main solution for the crowded situation in
Luis Aguado National High School S.Y 2018-2019. “Shifting” is not the solution because the Department
of Education construct another school building for Luis Aguado National High School so that the students
will not suffer any more in the crowded situation of classroom in our school

VIII. METHODOLOGY (qualitative)

This are my methods on how I will accumulate data to substantiate that “shifting” is a main solution
for the crowded situation in Luis Aguado National High School S.Y 2018-2019.

DATA GATHERING

PHASES METHODS

 Identify the respondents that will be the key to prove my study :

PHASE 1 “shifting” a main solution for the crowded situation of classroom
in Luis Aguado National High School S.Y 2018-2019.
 Conducting a survey regarding to my research in G10 students of
PHASE 2 Luis Aguado National High School and interview specific students
from other year level (grade 7,8 and 9) concerning on what are
the effects on a student health aspect in a crowded classroom in
Luis Aguado National High School.

 Synopsize the data collected by using Bar Graph to show the

PHASE 3 outcome of my surveys and address the interviews regarding on
what is the effect on student health aspect in a crowded
classroom by constructing a paragraph.

 Identify if the research attained its objective and proved it with

PHASE 4 the use of evidences or failed to accomplished the study and
unsuccessful to substantiate the research.

IX. RESEARCH QUESTION

 How many grade 10 students are approved and disapproved on Shifting Method in Luis
Aguado National High School S.Y 2018-2019.
 Are the students in grade 10 comfortable in whole day method while experiencing crowded
situation or shifting method with a normal capacity of classroom.
 What are the effects on health of a student in populated classroom in Luis Aguado National
High School S. 201-2019

PERCENTAGE OF STUDENTS IN EVERY GRADE 10 SECTION WHO AGREE THAT SHIFTING IS THE MAIN
SOLUTION FOR THE CROWDED SITUATION IN LUIS AGUADO NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL S.Y 2018-2019
and SAYING THAT SHIFTING IS MORE COMFORATABLE THAN WHOLE DAY.
This graph illustrates that in Grade 10 Conchu and De Ocampo 98% of students agreed that
shifting is the main solution for the crowded situation in Luis Aguado National High School. Whereas in
the sections of Grade 10 Aguado and Cabuco that reach the top percent of the graph, showing 100% of
students concurred that shifting is the main solution for the overcrowded situation in Luis Aguado
National High School S.Y 2018-2019. However, in Grade 10 Cabezas got lowest pecentage of students
coincided that shifting is the main solution for the crowded situation in Luis Aguado National High Schoo
S Y 2018-2019l in achieving 90% of students agreed.

In final, this chart shows that most of the grade 10 students of section Cabezas, Conchu,
Aguado, Cabuco and De Ocampo agreed that shifting is a main solution for the crowded situation in Luis
Aguado National High School S.Y 2018-2019.

Interview (about the effects on Health of an Populated classroom)

1. What are the effects on Health of a student who experiencing crowded state in classroom?

According to Melwin Amaro and Jovelyn Alcazar"transmission of disease" with epidemic

potential such as acute Respiratory failures: cough, cold and flu specifically are the common
effects on health of a student who experiencing crowded state in his/her classroom. This
minimal effects for us, can lead to a serious problem on health. While for Nicole Moralita poor
hygiene practices for lHealth of a student experiencing populated state in classroom in Luis
Aguado National High School S.Y 2018-2019.

X. CONCLUSION

This research succesfully proves that Shifting is a main solution for the crowded situation in Luis
Aguado National High School. This study was supported by my claims and evidences which is the
questionairre for my Grade10 respondents. As well as substantiating that shifting method is more
comfortable than whole day that is also include to my questionairre. The interview to Melwin Amaro,
Jovelyn Alcazar and Nicole Moralita completed to show that crowded state in classroom had effects on
students health aspects. Over all this research achieve its objective proving that Shifting is a main
solution for the crowded situation in Luis Aguado National High School S.Y 2018-2019.

XI. RECOMMENDATION

 Luis Aguado National High School should implement shifting method next school year, for it is will be the
key to lessen the population of students each classroom because of its am and pm schedule therefore the
students will not agonize in crowded status quo in his/her classroom of Luis Aguado National High School.
 Also, government must to build more school so that the students will be more comfortable to study. And
also to employ more teachers as to cover the problem of shortage of teachers to handle the increasing
population of students.
 In addition, it was suggesting Family Planning should be taken into consideration since great number of
children is also caused of lacking techniques in controlling birth for that reason Family Planning techniques
and methods should be taught to people by the responsible authorities.
 Besides, for the students like me, we must not be shy to suggest a solution specially in this kind of issue of
overcrowded classroom. For this will be also affect our performance in school and our health. Therefore if
we share our ideas it may lead to a better state of our classroom.
