Quiz 2 Correlation and Simple Linear Regression (Made by : VAS)

Canadian Health department would like to measure whether patients have high blood pressure
or not. The likelihood of having high blood pressure is influenced by factors such as age and
weight. In this problem we only use 1 factor which is weight to predict someone to have a high
blood pressure or not. The variable to be explained (blood pressure) is called the dependent
variable or response variable; the variables that explain it (weight) are called independent
variables or predictor variables.

A. The correlation between weight and Systolic Blood Pressure (SBP) is 0.97. What can you
say about this relationship?
B. Determine the coefficient regression “a” (intercept) and “b” (variable 1) ? (Use Calculator)
C. Determine the MSE and Standard Error using the available information (ANOVA table).
D. Compute the T-stat of the coefficient regression (𝑡ℎ𝑎 = 𝑎/𝑆𝑎 and 𝑡ℎ𝑏 = 𝑏/𝑆𝑏 )?
E. Using 𝛼 = 5% = 0.05. Is the regression model good / best? State your reason.
