z Brake immediately and stop when the engine flameouts.

Ƹ
 WARNING

z Steering device does not work when engine stops.

z Emergency brake could hurt people!
z It is dangerous to shift from forward gear to backward
gear at high speed. Never do thisʽ

5.3 Full Load Transportation

z Do not keep a full bucket in the high position when moving.
Select the proper speed when transporting with full load. Lower
the bucket to the tilt block and run with proper height
(400~500mm above the ground), so that the center of gravity
can be lowered to insure driving smoothly.
z Check the limit lifting weight of the backhoe loader. Never
overload, which may hurt the machine or people. Shandong

may throw out the materials from the bucket or cause the
backhoe loader to turn over. Avoid this operation.

5.4 Drive at Proper Speeds

z Be familiar with the performance of the backhoe loader, and
drive at the proper speed according to the actual conditions
in the working area. Select the transportation path and
operation method at the same time and let the others know
this.
z Keep running at a low speed so as the machine can be
controlled easily at all times.
z Never drive fast and turn to brake suddenly on rugged,
slippery or oblique ground.
z Slow down when passing over rough or rugged ground with
blocks around, which may cause some problems in
controlling the steering wheel. Backhoe loader may turn
over if you operate in the wrong way.
z Keep the engine run smoothly; Never drive at high speed
when steering.

5.5 Ensure Good Visibility

z Control the speed and sound the horn if necessary to let
others know, and determine the proper direction when the
visibility is bad or at a narrow crossing.
z Sand, dust, fog or storm may affect the visibility. Slow
down when the visibility is poor. When the visibility is not
good, stop working until the weather becomes good.
z The backhoe loader is a special vehicle. Drive carefully
when taking long parts which may block the visibility.
Carefully lift, go forward and backward, and change gears.
Never let somebody else go into the working area, or
assign somebody in charge of this.

32
Operation & Maintenance ManualņņLGB877 Wheel Backhoe loader

z Keep the front and rear head light and working light on
when working in dark areas.

5.6 Driving in Dangerous Conditions

z Be careful when you work in dangerous condition. Do not
operate alone in dangerous condition. Investigate the
condition of the road, the strength of the bridge, landform
of the working area and all geologic features before
working. Do work on good ground condition.
z Pay attention to the sinking depth of wheels and the braking
effect on muddy or soft ground.
z When working in water or swampland, prevent the bottom
of the axle housing from being soaked. Slow down after
passing through water or in rain. Step on the brake pedal
gently and alternately to let the brake device dry after
working in water or in rain.
z The clay piled on the ground or near the canal is usually soft.
And it may collapse due to the weight or vibration of the
backhoe loader.
z Never drive the machine near hanging things or the place
close to a deep ravine. These places may collapse due to
weight or vibration of the machine and result in the turning
over of the machine.
z Assemble operator cab with FOPS & ROPS when working
in an area where there is danger of falling stone and
machine turnover.
z Working in continual rainy weather, earthquake and
explosions can happen. Operate carefully in these cases.
There are piled sewage on the ground after earthquake or
explosion, and be careful when operating.
z Drive at a low speed, and prevent starting, braking or
turning suddenly, and use the tire chain on a snowy road.
Brake alternately. Lower the bucket to touch the ground to
brake if necessary.
z The load should be decreased to prevent slippage when
driving on snowy ground because the adhesive force may
33
Operation & Maintenance Manual LGB877 Wheel Backhoe

change greatly in the piled snow.

z The road shoulder and other road conditions can not be seen
under the snow, so take care with the snow shovel.

5.7 Driving safely on the slope

z Turnover or slippage may occur when driving on an abrupt
hill, dyke or ramp.
z The bucket should be 200~300mm above the ground when
driving on an abrupt hill, dyke or ramp. Lower the bucket
on the ground to help brake or prevent turnover of the
machine in emergency conditions.
z Do not turn on the ramp. Do not drive across the ramp or
change direction which may turn over the machine until on
the level place.
z Never turn on the ramp until on the level ground. Slow
down and use a small turning angle when working on an
abrupt hill, dyke or ramp.
z Go up and down the ramp rather than drive through
alleyway or footpath.
z Choose proper gears before going down the slope and never
change the speed during going down the slopes.
z Do not suddenly brake on the ramp because the center of
gravity is on the front tire or rear tire.
z Use gear I when driving on the ramp with a full load. Go
forward when driving up the ramp, go backward when
driving down the ramp. Never turn around.
z Brake slowly when driving down the ramp; do not set the
gearshift control lever in the position of the neutral gear.
z Go down the ramp slowly; never stop the engine.
z If the engine stops on the ramp (Slope angle should be less
than 20%)ˈstep on the brake padel immediately and lower
the bucket to the ground to help brake, use the parking
brake, put the gear control lever in the neutral position, and
then restart engine.
z When driving with load, the bucket should face upward of

cause damage to backhoe loaders, the goods and the
operator.
z Running at a hign speed is one dangerous and wrong
operation method, which not only damages the machine,
but also damage the material.
z Keep perpendicular during loading and unloading materials.
If working from a tilt direction, the steering cylinder and
differential carriers may be damaged, and the machine may
be unbalanced.
z Be cautious when lifting the boom to the highest position,
which may cause the vibration of the machine, so the
machine should move slowly and bucket should tilt
forwards.
z When unloading to the truck or tipper, make sure the bucket
does not hit the truck or tipper. Do not allow anyone to
stand under the bucket or to let the bucket go over the cab
of the truck.
z When excavating device works, place the outrigger on the
ground and level the bucket flatly on the ground and support
the whole machine.

panel to prevent shock current from burning the computer
control panel; After repair, insert the connector of computer
control panel again, or the machine will not start and move.
z Clean the paint at the welding site to prevent the harmful
gas.
z Avoid welding on the hydraulic equipment or pipe, or places
nearby. Flammable steam and sparks may be generated.
z Cover the rubber, wire or pressure pipe and use anti-fire
plate during welding because a spark may cause a sudden
crack or shatter the insulating tape.
z Be careful when welding near tires, which may cause a
thermal explosion.

8.11 Maintenance of Coolant System

z Severe burn may be caused if the cover of the oil tank and
the radiator are opened after welding, so pour water or oil
on the cover of the oil tank immediately after just finishing
welding. The temperature and pressure of hydraulic oil, fuel
and water in the engine, the oil and water in the radiator
may be still very high after just finishing the work. Wait for
the temperature falling down and follow the procedures to
do the operations above.
z To avoid hot water ejecting from the radiator, stop the
45

engine, let the hot water cool, and open the cover slowly to
release the pressure. Never touch the radiator. Check the air
temperature in front of the radiator to gauge the
temperature.
z To avoid hot water ejecting from the radiator, stop the
engine, cool the hot oil, and open the cover slowly to release
the pressure. Never touch the radiator. Check the air
temperature in front of the radiator to gauge the
temperature.
z While the machine is warming-up, do not touch engine,
silencer, tail pipe or relay to prevent burn.
z While the machine is warming up, do not disassemble the
water heat sensor of the engine, oil heat sensor of the torque
converter or the water pipe of air condition to prevent burn.
z Never let the harmful alkaline materials in the coolant
system touch your skin or eyes.
z Choose a proper container to hold the liquid when replacing
the coolant, mobile oil of the engine, oil of the transmission
box and cleaning the parts. Please refer to 8.20 Waste
Materials, in this chapter for the methods to deal with the
waste liquid.
z Keep fire far away when disassembling the connection pipe
of the air condition compressor.
8.12 Examination and Repair of Hydraulic System

z Before overhauling the hydraulic system, lock cylinders and

other hydraulic devices safely and cool hydraulic oil, and
carefully release the pressure in the pressure pipeline/
container, parts and systems in case of danger. Such pipes,
systems, and parts with pressure should be dissembled by
trained professionals.
z Never bend or beat the high pressure hydraulic pipe. Never
assemble the hard pipe and soft pipe if they are bent
abnormally or broken.
z Routinely repair any loose or broken fuel pipes, lubricant
46
Operation & Maintenance ManualņņLGB877 Wheel Backhoe loader

pipes, hard and soft pipes of hydraulic system. Leakage can

cause fire, so repair and replace them.
z Examine the pipe system carefully (hard pipe and soft pipe),
screw down the connectors according to the proper torque.
Do not examine the leakage with your hands, but use a
board or paper board. The leaking hydraulic liquid may
penetrate your skin and cause death. If the liquid splashes
onto your skin, refer to a physician trained for this kind of
“burn” immediately in a few hours.
z Make sure all the pipe clamps, protective board, and
anti-heat cover are installed properly to prevent vibration
and overheating due to friction with other parts.
z Choose proper container to hold liquid when replacing the
hydraulic oil of the hydraulic system and when cleaning the
parts. Please refer to 8.20 Waste Materials, in this chapter
for the methods to deal with waste liquid.

Ƹ
 NOTICE

flammable liquid. Clean them using inflammable liquid
before welding and flame cutting.
z Before repair, check whether the extinguisher is good, and
known where it is and how to use it.
z Never use fire (match or lighter) to check dark areas.

8.15 Electric System

z The electric system must be maintained by a professional
person with a proper license.
z Connect the grounding cable last to prevent an explosion
due to electric sparks near the battery when adjusting
outside power.
z Stop the machine and remove the starting key before
repairing the electric system.

8.16 Maintenance of Storage Battery

Oxygen and hydrogen may be generated during battery charging

because the electrolyte of the storage battery contains vitriol. So
48
Operation & Maintenance ManualņņLGB877 Wheel Backhoe loader

mis-operation of the storage battery may lead to severe injury or

fire. Please do as follows:
z Keep kids away from the battery. Wear safety glasses and
rubber gloves to deal with the battery. If vitriol gets in the
eyes or on the clothes or wash with lots of water and go to
hospital if hurt severely.
z Keep fire away from the battery during charging because the
generation of oxygen and hydrogen may cause an explosion.
Prevent circuit from shorting. Avoid short circuit caused by
metal objects, such as tools.
z Keep fire away from the battery crust because it is
flammable.
z Store the battery under dry, clean and well ventilated
circumstances with temperatures between 5~25ć. Prevent
sun light irradiation. Keep the battery 2m away from a heat
source.

Replace with a new battery after the white light indicator.
z Routinely recharge the battery if the battery lacks electric
power during use to prevent the capability of battery sulfate
going down.
z Used battery should be charged every 3 to 6 months
(depending on the indicator) if it is not removed from the
machine and kept in a dry and ventilated place for a long
time (usually over 15 days).

8.17 Charging of Battery

Explosion may occur if the storage batteries are charged in the
wrong way. So follow the storage battery instructions in this user
manual. Do as follows:
z Charge with constant voltage is recommended:
¾ Complementary charge: charge 16 hours at 16.0 Voltage
(max current is less than 25A)
¾ Normal charge: charge 24 hours at 16.0 Voltage (max
current is less than 25A).
z Remove the battery before charging. Charge it at a
ventilated place. Take the battery cover down so that the
hydrogen can be spread and prevent explosion.
z Connect the positive pole of the charging machine with the
negative pole of the storage battery, and then connect the
negative pole of the charging machine with the positive pole
of the storage battery. Never reverse.
z Examine the vent of the battery to prevent blockage,
otherwise it may explode.
z Lower the charging voltage or current if the electrolytes are

8.19 Maintenance and Storage of Tires

8.19.1 Maintenance of Tires
51
Operation & Maintenance Manual LGB877 Wheel Backhoe
Loader

z Explosion of a tire can push the parts, such as tire, rim and
driving axle, as far as 500m or more. The explosion and the
particles can lead to severe injury, even death, so please
keep the pressure of the tire at the normal level. Inflation
pressure should not surpass the standing value. The inflation
pressure : front .wheel 0.43f0.01 Mpaˈrear wheel 0.22f
0.01 MpaDŽ
z Driving at high speeds increases the temperature and the
pressure. Never try to reduce the pressure, but reduce the
speed to cool the tire. Continuous driving at high speed can
lead to over heating and tire explosion.
z Stand at the back of the tire, and stand as far as possible
away from the tire when adjusting the pressure of the tire.
z Avoid overload, the proper load: rated load of loader is 1.8t
and rated road of excavator is 0.3t.
z Check the tire and rim every day for cracks or bubbles.
Never operate in a low pressure condition.
z Check that the bolt and nut of the rim are in place. Check
whether the torque of the nut satisfies the suggested value of
the factory.
z Never stand in the front or the rear of the rolling direction
of the tire. Check the tire from the side. If disassembling one
tire lock the other tires.
z Take care when welding near a tire, which can cause
explosion of the tire.
z Only a trained person with a professional license can repair
a tire and rim using specific tools and following the proper
steps.
z If you find the following phenomena, replace new tires for
safety reasons,
‹ The sidewall of the tire is distorted or tire is badly worn.
‹ Tire is excessively worn, and the surrounding tire layer
(excluding cushion layer) is exposed for more than a
quarter round of circle.
52
Operation & Maintenance ManualņņLGB877 Wheel Backhoe loader

‹ Damage of tire layer is more than 1/3 of the wheel

width.
‹ The tire has been layered.
‹ Radial cracks extend to the tire layer.
‹ Deformation or wear of the tire is so severe that it can
not be reused
z Use the uniform tire with the same standard and same
flower pattern for replacement. The specifications are on the
tire rim.
8.19.2 Storage of Tires
z It is the basic rule that tires should be stored in a warehouse.
No one can enter without permission. Put a fence around
and hang a “No Entering” sign if the tires are stored outside
the warehouse.
z Store the tires in a dry and clean place. Water can oxidize a
tire, and dirt and oil can erode a tire. No light, heat
insulation or ventilation are needed for storage. Cover the
tires with a canvas, plastic or other anti-dust cloth. The
wrong storage method can greatly reduce the quality and life
of tires.
z Stand the tire on level ground and use a wedge to lock it to
prevent it falling down. The quality may be reduced if the
tire is laid on its side. The tire should be rotated (90e) once
per month at least.
z Please stand aside if a tire starts to fall down. Never try to
hold a tire since the tires for engineering mechanisms are
generally very heavy, and you may be seriously hurt.
8.20. Deal with hazardous materials
In case of pollution, please follow the next procedures:
Do not
pour the waste oil into water and rivers.
z Contain the drained oil with container and do not pour the
oil on the ground.
z Please observe the relative laws and regulations when
dealing with hazardous material, such as lubricant, fuel,
coolant, resolution, filter, battery and other material.

loading and unloading the machine.
z Load and unload the machine on level ground and remain a
safe distance away from the road.
z Ensure the tires well during loading and unloading the
machine and make sure it will not move. Put a cushion
under the plate.
z Slope boards should be strong enough with sufficient length
and width to form a safe loading/ unloading slope. The
angle between the ground and the slope should not be larger
than 15e. Distance between boards should be adapted to
the wheel base of the machine.
z Make sure the boards are fixed firmly and height of the two
sides of the board should be consistent.
z Keep the board surface clean, without lubricant, oil, ice and
loose materials. Clean the dirt on the tires.

steering wheel and check whether the control lever is
flexible and placed on neutral position;
2) Make sure your hands and shoes clean and dry.

Ƹ
 NOTICE

Objects that are not fixed firmly may fall to cause injury or rolling
on the ground. You may be knocked unconscious by falling objects,
control lever may be stuck and other problems like these. If such
things happen, you will lose control of the machine
3) Clear or fix the objects that are not fixed in the cab,
85
Operation & Maintenance Manual LGB877 Wheel Backhoe
Loader

such as: lunch boxes, tools, etc..

4) Check whether the ROPS / FOPS is damaged. Please
contact with the SDLG Dealers to repair or replace the
damaged ones. Ensure that all fasteners are in place and
correctly fastened.
5) Check whether the seat belt and the belt fixers is
damaged or worn excessively; Please replace the belt if
the safety belt is damaged or worn or after accidents.
Check the bolts of the seat belt is not damaged and
fixed firmly. Replace the safety belt every three years.
6) Check whether the lights, warning lights, horn, turn
signals, all the switches, indicator light, danger warning
lights, windshield washer, wiper, and indicator lamps on
the gauge panel are working properly.
7) Adjust the position of seat to sit comfortably. Please
refer to 1.2.11 Adjustment of Cab’s Seat, in this chapter.
8) Adjust the rear-view mirror to the rear of the machine,
to ensure a good view after the operators sit in the cab.
9) Fasten your safety belts. Be ready to start the
machine.
3.2.2 Starting the engine
Notes for starting engine:
z Make sure all the control levers are in the neutral position
before starting; make sure the gear control lever is in neutral
position, and put the switch in its original position.
z Step on the accelerator slowly when starting to prevent
breaking parts.
z Follow the correct starting steps to start the engine.
z Refer tolj Operation and Maintenance Manual ---Diesel
Engine NJto get other operations of diesel engines.
Steps of starting engine:
z Put the shifting control lever to the neutral position
z Turn the start key clockwise to the ON position. Connect
the power switch and ring the horn.
86
Operation & Maintenance ManualņņLGB877 Wheel Backhoe loader

z Turn the starting key to the ON position. Connect the power

switch, and press the accelerator slowly. Then turn to the
START position. After releasing the starting key, it will go
back to the ON position automatically. The starting time is
not more than 5~10 seconds, (the engine starting effort not
be more than 15 seconds).
z Try again if the machine does not start the first time. But the
alternation time should be more than 1 minute. If the engine
does not start after these tries, please check the machine and
solve the problem.
3.2.3 After Starting Engine
z After starting the engine, it should not be operated for
working immediately and step the accelerator pedal slightly,
to make the engine run at middle sped without loads for
about 5 minutes.
z Lower the speed of the engine, and examine the reason if
engine oil pressure gauge is not in the normal position in
more than 10 seconds. After that, start again, otherwise there
may be some problem.
z When the engine oil pressure does not reach the designated
value, the high running speed of the engine will induce a
high temperature and the turbo charger may be broken.
z Use the working equipment control levers to let the
preheated hydraulic oil circle in hydraulic tank and pipes, so
that way the hydraulic parts can warm quickly.
z Keep the engine at an idle speed for several minutes to
realize the full lubrication (such as turbocharger) after
starting. Increase the speed to 1000~1200r/min gradually,
and then enter the partial load running status. Pay attention
to the value of the gauge.
z Do not let the engine run at high speed or low speed more
than 20 minutes in the idle status.
z If the engine has to run at idle status, the machine should be
loaded from time to time or the engine should run at the
middle speed.
87
Operation & Maintenance Manual LGB877 Wheel Backhoe
Loader

z In cold climates to warm up the hydraulic oil, the operation

is as follows:
In the process of warm-up, firstly check whether the rotation of
engine is stable. Push the bucket control handle back and forth to
preheat hydraulic oil, and the unloading time should be within
10 seconds in the position of retracting the bucket and the
unloading. With this operation, the hydraulic oil will reach
working pressure and the hydraulic fluid is preheated rapidly.
After preheating, check the gauges. If some is abnormal, do
remove them. Keep the engine run at middle speed until the
engine coolant temperature gauge, converter oil pressure gauge
and barometer instructions are all within the green zone.
z Check the color, sound and vibration of exhaust gas without
abnormal. If some are abnormal, remove them.
3.3 Running
3.3.1 Driving
Driving the machine on the road or on the site should usually
adhere to local regulations and safety requirements about the
driving position. The next few pages about driving position on
the road and on the site put forward some suggestions to help
you meet these requirements, but it itself is not applicable law.
No matter you travel on the road or on the site, there are two
possible driving positions:
1. "Folded" position, namely place the excavating end on the
rear of the machine.
2 Intermediate projection position, namely excavating end is
located in an intermediate position, and projecting from the
rear of the machine.
The correct position depends on the model of the machine and
attachments that are equipped with.
Attachments of Excavating end
Before driving on the highway, it is recommended that you
remove all excavation attachments. However, if the machine has
been installed with attachments on the highway, the
88
Operation & Maintenance ManualņņLGB877 Wheel Backhoe loader

requirements should be complied with the requirements in

folded driving position "and" Intermediate projection position.
Folded driving position
1. Total width after folding of excavating end must not exceed
2.5m, if any part is beyond the machine frame, do mark them
with red and white stripes to warn the existed danger.
2. Boom lock and swing lock must be securely locked.
3. In some regions, it is necessary to install the bucket loading
cylinder safety lever.
4. Attachments should not exceed the rear of the machine more
than 1m. If the exceeded parts are greater than 1m, do install
after the rear board or rear light. If the attachments are
removed, the linkage should be fixed.
5. Ensure the stability of the vehicle.
6. Rear parking lamp / tail lamp/ indicator (on both sides)
should be clearly visible from the rear of the machine.
7. Do use hydraulic clamping.
Intermediate projection position
1. Attachments should not affect the stability. For example: the
front axle must bear at least 20% of the total weight of the
machine.
2. Excavating end must be placed in the middle of the rear
frame and lock it with hydraulic locker.
3. Boom lock and swing lock must be securely locked.
4. In some regions, it is necessary to install the bucket loading
cylinder safety lever.
5. Do install protection board/ protection light. If the
attachment is removed, tipping lever should be fixed. After
the rear boards / rear light are still installed.
Driving position
No matter driving on the road or on the working site, you should
read "Preparation about the driving". The advice given below is
not necessarily applicable law. Make sure to comply with the
local laws.
Note: The machine without headlights and side lights is
89
Operation & Maintenance Manual LGB877 Wheel Backhoe
Loader

designed for working in the site. The machine without headlights

and side lights on the road may be illegal.
1. Fix the excavating end, there are two possible positions and
refer to ‘folded driving position "and" Intermediate
projection position.
2. Lock the boom lock and swing lock.
3. If attachment is installed, ensure the safety. For example,
install sharp teeth protection board.
Note: In some areas, it is illegal if you do not install the teeth tip
protection board, so be sure to pay attention to the local laws and
regulations.
4. Ensure that the outriggers are fully raised.
Note: In some areas (ie Germany or Italy), it is required
mandatorily to install the outriggers with locks when driving on
the highway.
5 Check all the light, including warning lights should work
properly and clearly visible. Unless the brake lights work
properly, do not drive the machine.
Test the parking brake lever
Safety Tips: Make sure that all the regular health and safety
measures has been taken before the operation. Comply with all
precautions before operating the machine.

3.5 Operations
3.5.1 Preparation to Work
Clean the working area, and fill-up any hollow spaces.
Clear away the sharp stones and roadblocks that may break the
wheels and operation.
3.5.2 Operation Modes

! Notice

When the backhoe loader is excavating or
loading,make sure it face forwards.

3.5.2.1 Operation of loader

(1) Loading Operation
z Work together with a truck which can help improve working
efficiency especially for long distance transportation.
z When working together, the backhoe loader digs the
material and the truck transports and unloads the material:
There are generally two loading and unloading ways:
z Cross Loading:
The backhoe loader faces the material, then it moves
backward after digging a full load and lets the auto-unload
truck move into the position between material and the
backhoe loader. This method costs the minimum time and
can reduce the cycle time most effectively.
z “V” Shape Loading:
The auto-unload truck is fixed and forms almost a 60°angle
with the backward direction of the backhoe loader. After
95
Operation & Maintenance Manual LGB877 Wheel Backhoe
Loader

digging, the backhoe loader moves backward and turns the

designated degree and moves forward to the truck.
The smaller the backhoe loader work angle is, the more
efficient the work is.
(2) Digging Operation
„ Digging Piled Soil or Blasted Rock
When digging piled soil or blasted rock, the backhoe loader
should face the material and do as follows:
z If the bucket must be lowered while driving the machine
forward, stop the machine when the bucket is about 30cm
above from the ground, and then lower it slowly.
If the bucket hits the ground, the front tires will leave the ground
and the tires will slip.
z The operator must slow the speed immediately when the
machine reaches the material pile. Simultaneously step on
the accelerator pedal, and enter the material pile with the
bucket.
z Keep the bucket horizontal when loading the stockpile, but
keep the dumping angle down when loading the blasted rock.

Notice:
Do not let the blasted rock go under the bucket which will make
the front tires leave from the ground and slip. Try to hold the
load in the center of the bucket; otherwise, if the load is on one
side of the bucket, it will be unbalanced.
z Raise the lift arm to prevent the bucket from inserting too
deeply while thrusting the bucket into the material. The tires
will bring ample traction by raising the lift arm.
z If enough material is loaded into the bucket, operate the
96
Operation & Maintenance ManualņņLGB877 Wheel Backhoe loader

working equipment control lever to take back the bucket in

order to load it fully.
Remark:
If the shovel edge moves up and down when thrusting material
into the bucket or when digging, the front tires will leave the
ground and slip.
z If there is too much material loaded into the bucket, the
bucket must be dumped and titled quickly to remove the
excessive load so as to prevent the material from dispersing
during transportation.
„ Digging and Shoveling Material on Flat Ground
Lightly set the bucket edge leaning on the ground (see
picture) when digging and shoveling material on flat ground.
Be careful not to fasten the load to one side which will
cause unbalance. This operation should be carried out
carefully in gearĉ.
z Lightly set the bucket edge facing down.
z When driving the machine forward, operate the working
equipment control lever to let the lift arm lower down to the
proper position so that it can pick up a thin layer of the
surface each time when excavating the soil.
z When driving the machine forward, shift the working
equipment control lever backward and forward slightly to
reduce the resistance.

Ƹ
 NOTICE

Keep the two sides of the bucket cutting into the material
equally to prevent only a single side working. Face the
backhoe loader forward and never let an angle exist between
the front and rear frame.
(3) Carrying Operation
The backhoe loader must be used without a truck under the
following conditions:
z The ground is too soft and not level, and the truck can not
be used.

97
Operation & Maintenance Manual LGB877 Wheel Backhoe
Loader

z When the transportation distance is within 500 meters, it is

not economical to use a truck.
z The transportation driving speed is determined by the road
condition.
z In order to get good visibility and stability, the bucket
should be turned to its upper limit location(bucket lift-arm
touch the upper limited block) and keep the lower pin
connection point of lift-arm at the transportation position
(400~500mm above the ground).
(4) Dumping Operation
z When dumping material on to trucks or into freight yards,
raise the lift-arm to the position (forward tilt to the
maximum position) where the bucket does not touch the
carriage or material pole. And operate working equipment
control lever to tilt the bucket forward to dump. Part or all
of the material can be dumped by the lever control. Act
slowly and gently during dumping to prevent the bucket
from striking the ground.
z If the material sticks onto the bucket, move the working
equipment control lever cyclically to allow the bucket to tilt
forward or backward to shake down the material.
z After dumping, use the bucket to level equipment (if
assembled). Rear tilt bucket to level position, and operate
the working equipment control handle to allow the lift arm
to lower to prepare for next operation.
(5) Pushing Operation
Level the bucket to the ground, and push the accelerator to move
forward. If there is blockage during moving, raise the lift arm a
little and move forward continuously. When operating the lift
arm to lift or lower, operate the control lever between lifting and
lowering operation. Never use the lever at the raising or
lowering position to ensure pushing the bucket smoothly.

98
Operation & Maintenance ManualņņLGB877 Wheel Backhoe loader

Ƹ
 NOTICE

Watch the torque converter oil temperature gauge all the

time during a pushing operation. If the temperature is too
high, stop the machine to let it cool down and then continue
to work.
(6) Leveling Operation
z Fill the bucket with material and retreat the backhoe loader
to sprinkle the material on the ground.
z Keep the blade touch the ground and level the ground with
the back of bucket.
z Fill the bucket with a little scrap, set boom in the state of
floating, place the bucket on the ground horizontally.
z Level the ground by moving the vehicle back.
(7) Scraping Operation
z Tilt the bucket to let the blade touch the ground.
z For hard ground, put the lift arm control lever in the float
position; for soft ground, put the lift arm control lever in the
neutral position.
z Use reverse gear to strike the ground with blade.
(8) Towing Operation
Only in the case without other options can the machine be towed.
Remember towing the machine may cause further damage to the
machine. Repair the machine as far as possible in the failure
location. If the machine has to be towed, please follow the
"CAUTION" and "WARNING" and take the following
approaches.
z If possible, the engine of the towed machine should keep the
engine running to ensure braking and turning is possible.
z If the towed machine engine can’t start, or the pressure to
relieve the brake can’t be get due to some reasons, you can
loosen it by mechanical method, such as to disassemble the
front and rear transmission axle. If the machine can’t steer,
disassemble the steering cylinder.

99
Operation & Maintenance Manual LGB877 Wheel Backhoe
Loader

Ƹ
 WARNING

z Before towing, the tires must be blocked by the parking

brake to prevent the machine from rolling.
z During towing, be careful to prevent severe and fatal injury.
z Use rigid towing lever. If a traction chain has to be used, do
use two towing chains- one used on the front of the
machine and the other one is used behind the machine to
provide the braking power.
z The connection hole of the rear frame at the inner side of the
rear wheel can only be used for lifting and binding, but not
for towing.
z If there is no braking system for the towed machine, never
use soft towing but use fixed towing or use towing bar.
Connect the towing bar to the towing pin at the back of the
backhoe loader.
z If there is no braking system on the towed machine, no one
is allowed to stay on it.
z Check whether the towing rope and towing pin are strong
enough to suffer the weight of the towed machine. If
machine will pass over clay ground or go up a slope, two
towing ropes and towing pins should suffer at least 1.5 times
as weight of the towed machine.
z Try to decrease the towing angle of the towing rope to
ensure that the angle between the towing rope and the towed
machine is within 30°. The height of the towing points of
the two machines should be close.
z The connection between the towing equipment and the
machine should be strong.
z The weight of the towing machine should be heavier than
the towed one, and have enough traction power and braking
power to be able to pull or brake two vehicles going up and
down a slope.
z When towing the machine down a slope, the machine

100
Operation & Maintenance ManualņņLGB877 Wheel Backhoe loader

should have sufficient traction power and braking power.

Another towing machine should be used to pull at the back
side to prevent the towed machine from losing control or
turning over.
z Start to tow and brake gently, at the low speed, and turn on
the warning flash lamp.
z The speed for towing the backhoe loader should be within
10 km/h. Try to tow the machine to the nearest repairing
garage. If the distance is longer than 10 km or the towing
speed faster than 10 km/h, the front and rear transmission
axle must be disassembled or put the backhoe loader on
towing truck for transportation.
1. Pull the parking brake lever up.
2. Set the shift lever in neutral position, and set the forward /
reverse control lever in the neutral position by power shift
transmission.
3. If the engine is not running, the excavating end, loading end
and outriggers must be lifted to the transportation position
and fixed firmly.
a The method depends on the state of the machine and the
hydraulic circuit.
b Contact with SDLG dealer, in order to get help and advice.
4 Install the towing lever on the front traction point.

Ƹ
 WARNING

Lock the boom before installing the towing lever.

5 Traction of machine is now ready, make sure you know the

intent of the drivers of towing vehicle and comply with his
instructions and all relevant requirements.
Note that if the engine can’t start, the steering force required to
operate the machine will greatly increase.
3.5.2.2 Operation of excavator
(1) Loading Operation
z Place the outrigger on the flat ground, and put loading
buckets flat on the ground to support the whole machine.
101
Operation & Maintenance Manual LGB877 Wheel Backhoe
Loader

z The excavating device can excavate diagonally. If the

machine working in the spacious workplace, it is better to
keep the excavation region in front of the machine as well to
increase stability machine, so as to avoid imbalance.
z Reduce the distance between excavation area and the whole
machine as soon as possible, but not too close, the former is
likely to cause the lifting phenomenon of the machine, and
the latter will be prone to instability of outriggers to cause
danger.
z Note that do not excavate the soil below the outriggers.
z When excavating hard soil or excavating in small area, carry
out the excavation based on bucket mainly, adjust about 90 °
between the boom and the rear end of the bucket arm, and
excavate a thin layer of soil, in order to avoid excessive
wear of bucket.
z When excavating soft soil or large area, carry out the
excavation based on bucket arm mainly, when necessary, it
can work with bucket for digging, in order to improve the
efficiency of excavating.
(2) Stripper job
z Operate swing cylinders to rotate the working device to the
appropriate location of unloading. Don’t operate the control
lever too fast, in order to avoid the impact between the
device and the frame.
z When unloading, do not lift the boom and bucket arm too
high so as to avoid much scattered material before
unloading. If it is difficult to tilt, operate the bucket handle
repeatedly 2-3 times.
(3) Excavating end moving
Note: Before attempting to sway it, ensure that there is on debris
on moving track of the excavating end.
1. Use outriggers to place the machine level and stable, and the
column in vertical position.
2. Place the bucket on the ground and place it vertically on the
102
Operation & Maintenance ManualņņLGB877 Wheel Backhoe loader

rear of the machine.

3. Release the lock, press the hydraulic locking switch and the
lamp should be on.
4. Release the column from the sliding track and operate to
move bucket arm up and down several times.
5. Lift the excavating end and rotate it to one side of the
machine. If you want to move the machine to the right, you
should swing excavating end to left; If you want to move the
machine to the left, you should swing excavating end to right.
Place the bucket on the ground, and keep the bucket arm and
boom vertical.
6. Open the excavation bucket. In the process of opening the
excavation bucket, the pillar will be pushed to move laterally.
If the column is stuck, you can gently raise or lower the
boom to keep the column perpendicular to the track.
7. Move it laterally to the position that you want and lock the
column.
Note: The pressure generated when the excavating end works
will ensure that the hydraulic lock is fully locked. Before
operating the excavating end, push the control lever to fully
depress the bucket and to keep it in this position for at least 5
seconds.
3.5.4 Operation in Cold or hot Weather
3.5.4.1 Notes at high temperature
At high temperature, take the following measures to prevent the
possible damage to the machine.
z Use the fuel, hydraulic oil, lubricant and antifreeze with
appropriate viscosity. The specific use of oil refers to 2.2.1
oil selecting table Chapter Č.
z Use the correct coolant mixture.
z Periodically check the cooling system, and keep the coolant
level in the correct hydraulic height. Ensure that there is no
leakage.
z Keep the radiator clean and regularly remove dirt and
miscellaneous debris.
103
Operation & Maintenance Manual LGB877 Wheel Backhoe
Loader

z Check the fan belt regularly.

3.5.4.2 Notes at low temperature
If the temperature is too low, the engine will be difficult to start;
radiator may be frozen, the followings should be done:
z Use oil with low-viscosity, hydraulic oil and lubricants,
coolant filling with antifreeze in the filling. The specific use
of oil refers to "Chapter Č2.2.1 Choice of oil table."
z Notes about antifreeze:
1 Do not use antifreeze containing formaldehyde, ethanol,
and propanol.
2. Don’t use any leak-proof agent, whether it is used alone
or together with other antifreeze.
3. Do not mix antifreeze with different brands.
4. When replacing the antifreeze, the proportion of
antifreeze according to the requirement, refer to "Chapter
Č 2.1.2 Coolant"

! Notice

Be away from the flammable when filling the antifreeze

Notes when using the battery:
1. When the ambient temperature drops, the battery capacity is
also reduced. If the charging ratio of battery is low, the
electrolyte may be frozen, as far as possible to keep the charging
rate close to 100%, and keep insulation as far as possible, so the
engine can be easily started the next day.
2. If the battery is frozen, do not charge or start the
engine.According to the method offered by “Chapter ĉ8.16
Maintenance of battery”, remove the battery, and put it in the
greenhouse or warm water (Be careful not to let water into the
battery), slowly heat it to 15 ć, otherwise it may explode.

remove the filters immediately after the engine stops. Make sure
the engine is cool. The temperature of the oil drained is
appropriately about 20ć to 40ć If it is lower than this
temperature, be sure to warm it up to this temperature before
draining it.
1.8 Check the Oil and Filters
After the oil is changed or filters are replaced, check the oil and
filters. If large amounts of metallic particles or impurities are
found, consult the maintenance people.
1.9 Fuel Strainer
Do not remove the fuel strainer while fueling.
1.10 Oil Changing
Change oil in relationship dust-free places to keep impurities out
of the oil.
1.11 Welding Guide
z Turn off the starting switch of the engine and remove the
battery cables.
z Keep the distance between the grounding cable line and
welding area more than 1m.
z Avoid welding near the seal rings and bearings.
z Never weld any pipe or tube while has fuel as or oil in
them.
1.12 Fire Prevention
Clean the parts with inflammable cleaner or light oil. Keep spark

1.16 Checking in Raining and Snowing

Circumstances
Clean the machine immediately after working in rain and snow.
Lubricate and coat anti-rust oil to other parts.
1.17 Dusty Circumstances
Do the following when the machine works in dusty
circumstances:
z Inspect and clean air filter frequently to avoid blocking.
z Clean the radiator frequently to avoid blocking.
z Clean and replace fuel filter frequently.
z Clean the electric components, especially the starting motor
and alternator, to avoid accumulation of dust affecting dispelling
heat.
z Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual of
diesel engine for replacing and maintaining air filter.
1.18 Avoid Using Mixed Oil
z Never use oil mixed from different brands. If only a
different kind of oil from the one previously used, drain the oil
from the machine, and fill with the new brand oil.

2. DETAILED RULES OF MAINTENANCE

2.1 Detailed Rules of Using Oil, Fuel and

Coolant
Ƹ
 WARNING
z Because of bad operating conditions (high temperature and high load) and dusty
ambient circumstances, oil easily deteriorates. Change oil as soon as the oil
deteriorates or is mixed with many impurities.
z Add the specified volume of oil. Either too much or too little oil may cause problems.
z Clean and replace the relative filters when changing oil.
2.1.1 Fuel
z The fuel pump is a precision instrument. If the fuel mixes
with water or dirt, the fuel pump will not work normally.
z Never let impurities enter when changing and adding fuel.
z Strictly choose the fuel brand according to this manual.
118
Operation & Maintenance ManualņņLGB877 Wheel Backhoe loader
z The fuel may be frozen at low temperatures (particularly
temperatures lower than -15ć). So it is necessary to change the
kind of fuel according to the ambient temperature.
z Always fill the fuel tank full after operating to prevent the
water, which is condensed by the moisture in the air, from
entering the fuel tank.
z If the engine fails to suck fuel or the filters have been just
replaced, drain out the air in the circuit.
2.1.2 Coolant
z Should use clean soft water, rain water or tap water as
coolant, well water or spring water should be boiled before using
in order to avoid scale, affecting thermal performance.
z If the engine overheats, add coolant until the engine cools
down completely.
z Add coolant to specified level. If the level is too low, it will
cause the overheating of the engine system and the corrosion of
the cooling system.
z When the temperature is below 0 ć, add antifreeze to the
coolant. If there is no antifreeze, be sure to drain the coolant
after parking , and re-add before the next time starting.
z Antifreeze is flammable. Keep fire away when adding the
antifreeze.
z Do not use 100% antifreeze as coolant, the concentration of
the specific formula has been listed in the following table.

2.1.3 Lubricant
z Lubricant is used to reduce noise and prevent wear on the
joint surfaces.
z Joints not included in the manual (connectors, jointing
sleeves) are treated during overhaul. So they do not need be
lubricated. When some parts become inflexible because of
long-term operation, it is necessary to add lubricant.
z Remember to wipe off the overflow lubricant when adding
it.
2.1.4 Storage of Oil and Fuel
z Prevent water, dirt or other impurities from mixing with the
oil.
z Follow the rule, first in first out, to maintain oil quality
during long-term storage (Use the oil with the longest shell
life).
2.1.5 Filters
z Filters are extremely important safety components. They
can prevent impurities in the fuel from entering important
equipment and causing problems. Replace all filters
periodically. For the maintenance cycle. Replace filters at
shorter intervals when the machine works in a severely bad
environment.
z Never try to clean paper filter elements and use them again.
Always replace them with a new one.
z When replacing the oil filters, check whether there are some
metallic particles adhering to the old filter. If some metal
particles are found, consult the maintenance people.

Fig.5-4 LGB877 Braking System Principle Diagram

3.1 Driving Brake System

The system is a single brake pedal. Oil of pilot pump goes into
accumulator by filling valve. When pressing the brake pedal,
accumulator works as temporary oil source, a large amount of
oil flows into foot brake series pedal valve, and pressure oil
pushes the piston of disc brake to press the frictions plates on the
brake wheel to slow down or stop the machine..
Accumulator
Release the brake pedal, series pedal valve resets to neutral
position, oil in the brake disc of front and rear axle returns to oil
tank to relieve the brake.
3.2 Parking Brake System
Pull the parking brake disc to generate the friction force to brake
the backhoe loader. Control the parking brake indicator light by
providing electrical signals to remind the operator to the state of
vehicle.
