Impact Recorder System

Technical white paper

Over 20 years of
experience in
monitoring demanding
transports

Mobitron AB is a Swedish company that develops

high-technology products and measurement
systems for quality assurance of transport and handling
of goods. The company was founded in 1991 by Sven-
Olof Olsson and has since then developed its business
outside Huskvarna in Sweden. Today the company has
an established customer base in Sweden, Europe, Asia
and Africa, focusing on the power and transformer
industry and the measuring system Cargolog® Impact
Recorder System.
The Cargolog® Impact Recorder
System
The Cargolog® Impact Recorder is a wireless data logger with built-in sensors. The
Impact Recorder is affixed directly onto the cargo to record potential incidents that
could damage the goods. It monitors the goods throughout the entire logistics chain
and provides documented data on the measurement results.

In its early stage, the system was used as a pure measurement system for recording
temperature, humidity and shocks/impacts/vibration. Today it has evolved into an
advanced registration tool with the possibility of supervising transport with the
integrated GPS positioning and GSM/GPRS alarm. The system is designed to
provide information about the events and prevailing climate during transport and
handling of materials. It performs independent measurements during a long or short
period of time. The measurements can also be adapted to specific requests,
allowing the system to be universally usable with a multichannel measurement
system and in many areas of application. The ability to trace and track the goods
during transport allows you to have full control over the delivery.

• Easy to handle wireless impact recorder

• Track your goods during the entire logistics chain
• LED light immediately shows if there are over-
runs on alarm levels

Four basic systems

The Cargolog® Impact Recorder System is divided into four

basic systems, depending on the features that the data logger
contains. It can also be equipped with options such as ZigBee
or Bluetooth wireless communication, barometric pressure
sensor, external switch, extended battery and memory capacity
for extended durability and supervision over time.
System #0
The simplest basic system that measures
and records acceleration, duration of
acceleration and temperature with built-in
sensors.

System #1
The standard system that measures and
records acceleration, duration of acceleration,
temperature, humidity and angle with built-in
sensors.
System #2
Equipped with GPS. 22 channel indicates
the Geoposition ±1.8m (CEP95).
The GPS position is either logged
in connection with an event such as
exceeding the alarm limits for any
of the channels or at time intervals.

Measures and records acceleration,

duration of acceleration,
temperature, humidity and angle
with built-in sensors.

System #3
Equipped with GSM/GPRS communication.
Transfers data in real time via the
Cargolog® Online Cloud
service and gives you the
opportunity to react
immediately when your
goods are handled
incorrectly.

Measures and records

acceleration, duration of
acceleration, temperature,
humidity and angle with
built-in sensors.
Provides you with documentary data
The Cargolog®
Impact Recorder
System provides the
user with documentary
data. The measurements
are initiated and
analyzed by means of a
PC/Windows-program
with easy menu
alternatives. An
alternative is Mobitron’s
new app that allows
direct transfer of data
via Bluetooth from the
smartphone or tablet.

You can immediately obtain maximum/minimum values, momentary values and also
individual values of acceleration, temperature and humidity for different point of
time. The vertical axis for measurement values and the horizontal axis for time units
can all be given new and different scales when required. The chart can also be
printed and exported to Excel ordPDF for further analyses.
Record the geographical position
With our basic system #2 you can also see the geographical position of your goods.
Logging can be done at specified time intervals or in case of measurements over the
given limits. The geographical position will be indicated ±1.8 m (CEP95).

See the geographical position

You can see the GPS coordinates, as well as the time in which the GPS position
was recorded in both your smartphone and on the Cargolog® PC software. In the
CargoLog PC software, you can easily connect the program to the web address,
such as Google Maps, which shows detailed information on the geographical
position.

It is also possible to connect it to a local database on your PC. By means of just a

single click, you can see the route of the journey, as well as the GPS position where
any damage may have occurred.
Transfer data in real time
The Cargolog® Impact Recorder, equipped with GSM/GPRS communication,
transfers data in real time via Cargolog® Online Cloud service, and gives you the
opportunity to react immediately when your goods are handled incorrectly. This is
a cost-efficient method that gives you full monitoring of the course of events during
transport.

The recorded data can also be transferred via GSM/GPRS by a request via SMS
from your smartphone. The data logger then sends the information back as reque-
sted.

To save power, there is also the option to switch off the GSM/GPRS communication,
which is a useful tool when GSM/GPRS communication is not available, for
example, during transport at sea.

Parameter settings for acceleration measurement can also be updated via SMS.
Cargolog® Online - Cloud service

Cargolog® Online is a cloud service that gives you access to all data wherever you
are in the world. The cloud service allows you to receive the information you require
without the need to install any software. The only requirement is access to a
computer with internet connection, and you are then ready to easily obtain all the
information you require.

Registration units equipped with GSM/GPRS communication transfers data in real

time and gives you the opportunity to react immediately when your goods are sub-
jected to incorrect handling.

In Cargolog® Online all your registration units with GSM/GPRS communication are
listed. These send data to a server, which you can see in real time on the web. This
is a cost efficient solution that gives you full control over possible incidents during
transport.
Cargolog® TMS90

The Cargolog®TMS90 (Transport Monitoring System) is a system based on the

FAT90 Registration Unit combined with a visible alarm, integrated power
supply and IP enclosure for applications in tougher environments. The alarm
can be reset by an authorized operator by swiping a reset tag along the
system’s RFID sensor. The alarm limits can be adjusted by the user for the
best result.

The user interface, located on the front of the system, offers a single push button to
display which parameter has exceeded its alarm limit (if any) or to enable bluetooth
communication. These LEDs are visible on the FAT90 registration unit through a
window at the front of the IP box

A status LED turns green if case no alarm limits have been exceeded since the last
reset and turns red if a value is measured higher than a pre-set alarm level. An
external beacon (warning light) will be activated
simultaneously.

Setting alarm levels and other set-up parameters can be done by using the Cargo-
log PC software using Bluetooth communication or by attaching the
Topcommunicator IR-to-USB interface directly on the FAT90 registration unit.
The flashing power LED indicates that external power is connected and the system
software is up and running.

GPS Positioning
The system includes a GPS receiver which can be used for route documentation
and tracking. The GPS functions will also allow the user to set parameters to
combine the alarm event with the current location of goods by GPS.

GPRS communication
The Cargolog TMS90 system also includes communication functionality for trans-
mission of recorded data during transport and to alert the supervisor remotely via
email.
Inernet Cloud Service
The system also includes the cloud service Cargolog-Online.
Carglog-Online is an internet site where the user can log in by use of a personal
password to follow the transport.
The push button
The push button has the same function as the regular check limit button on the
FAT90 registration unit. When the button activates a function it will turn red.

• If you push the button for 7 seconds the Bluetooth communication starts. After 7
seconds the yellow angle LED will light up. Release the button and after a couple
of seconds the LED will start to flash to indicate that Bluetoothis is active.
• If you push the button for 2 seconds. you activate the Check Limit status to check
if any set limits for angle, temperature, humidity or acceleration have been
exceeded.

Bluetooth will remain active for 150 seconds after which it will switch off again and
the LED will stop blinking. This is for optimizing battery use. You may have to
activate Bluetooth again in case further communication with the unit is needed. If a
set limit (alarm level) has been exceeded, its corresponding LED on the FAT90 unit
will light up. Also the external beacon (warning light) will flash and the status LED on
the front will turn red.
RFID
RFID is used to reset the alarm
LED on the front and the beacon.
If case an incident has occurred,
the status LED, normally green, will
turn red and the external warning
light (if connected) will flash.

To deactivate these alarm

indications, the driver must use an
RFID tag programmed for an
authorized
reset of the unit.
Resetting by using the RFID tag
only resets the front status LED
and external flash light (if connec-
ted). The LEDs on the FAT90 regis-
tration unit will still indicate that li-
mits have been exceeded. Also the
registered values are still stored and available for reading in the FAT90’s memory.
