ASSIGNMENT # 4

1. Discuss art and the human faculties.


- When it derives to art our mind functions all the faculties in our mind, for example
you're doing an art and to make a good at, you need to have a strong imagination. And
also to appreciate art, we are using one of our cognitive faculties which is the judgment,
thinking and perception. The mind is the set of cognitive faculties
including consciousness, imagination, perception, thinking, judgement, language and me
mory, which is housed in the brain. It is usually defined as the faculty of an entity's
thoughts and consciousness. Human faculties has always have a big impact on arts,
without this faculties we would never be able to make a good or bad art.
2. Select a work of art according to four levels:
Perceptual Elements- Perception is a process of sensory organs. The mind gets the
information through the five sense organs, i.e., eyes, nose, ears, tongue, and skin.
perceptual art can be say as the engagement of multi-sensory experiential stimuli
combined with the multiplicity of interpretive meanings on the part of an observer.

Representations- is the use of signs that stand in for and take the place of something
else. To represent is "to bring to mind by description," also "to symbolize, to be the
embodiment of;" from representer from repraesentare,
Motional Suggestions- An art movement is a tendency or style in art with a specific
common philosophy or goal, followed by a group of artists during a restricted period of
time, or, at least, with the heyday of the movement defined within a number of
years. Numerous artists have attempted to depict motion and to show movement over
time.

Intellectual Meaning- art that driven by an intent derived of planning and execution not
jus created by sense of emotion. Humans has a three major components in doing an art;
emotion, intellect and spirit. Intelligence is what means how intelligent that the artist put
on his work.
3. What is art and perception of reality?
- Perception is defined as “a way of regarding, understanding, or interpreting something;
a mental impression.” While the reality is define as the things that actually exist. Art has a
great affect on our perception, each art changes your perception in a different way. Art
can change your perception through dance, architecture, food, graphic art and etc. Artist
wants you to see things the way they want you to see them. They want to meet someone
and they can tell you everything you want to hear without any hint of truth. Anyone can
give off any perception they want. The world we see is a reflection of who we are and
what we believe.
4. Compare a Filipino Musical Artist with Foreign Musical Group.
- Music has a big part of everyone's life. Music is an art that expresses ideas and emotions
in significance forms through the elements of rhythm, melody, harmony and color.
Filipino Music and artist creates music with powerful voice and clear harmonization,
Meaningful lyrics and catchy-beat are two of the reasons why not only Pinoy love OPM
but also the foreign people. While in the other hand Foreign music is unique, it sends
good vibes and it is new to the ears of the listeners, that’s why they catch the attention of
many. But nowadays most of us especially the teenagers has been more attracted to
foreign music. it is true that anyone can idolize music of their own choice, but to
completely forgot about the Filipino music and it's artists is way to hurtful for our
country. That's why some of our Official Pilipino Music losing their originality because
mostly of the songs you can here in radio and television is remakes and revivals. Another
thing is, OPM also lose their distinctive sound and it is being influenced by other genres.
5. Examples of Mondrian Artworks, Amorsolo, Munch, and Stynweck.
Fernando Amorsolo y Cueto was one of the most important artists in the history of painting in
the Philippines. Amorsolo was a portraitist and painter of rural Philippine landscapes. He is
popularly known for his craftsmanship and mastery in the use of light.

Piet Modrian- is a Dutch painter who has carved a


unique niche for himself on the global platform matching
the likes of other celebrity painters. He is possibly best
known for being one of the founders of the De Stijl,
which incorporated an art movement that worked around
abstract works, and the new art forms that were being
introduced to the world in the early 20th century.

Broadway Boogie Woogie is a painting by Piet Mondrian completed in 1943, after he had
moved to New York in 1940. Compared to his earlier work, the canvas is divided into a
much larger number of squares.

Harmen Steenwijck or Harmen Steenwyck was a Dutch


Golden Age painter of still lifes, notably of fruit.

Still Life: An Allegory of the Vanities of Human Life' by


Harmen Steenwyck is a classic example of a Dutch
'Vanitas' painting. It is essentially a religious works in the
guise of a still life. 'Vanitas' paintings caution the viewer
to be careful about placing too much importance in the wealth and
pleasures of this life, as they could become an obstacle on
the path to salvation. The title 'Vanitas' comes from a quotation from the Book of Ecclesiastes
1:2, 'Vanity of vanities, all is vanity.'
