a. ICT
b. Writing 3
2. Determine what teaching and learning "technology" appropriate for each subject/skill;
Answer:
a. ICT uses Edmodo as a classroom learning technology
b. Writing 3 uses Moodle as a classroom learning technology
3. Explain "WHY" and "HOW" the "technology" can bring positive or significant impact
for both language teachers and students;
Answer :
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) or commonly known in Indonesia as
Information and Communication Technology (ICT), is a technology that includes electronic
devices, computers and telecommunications, which includes software, which can be used to
make, store, transmit, translate and manipulate information in various forms. ICT course is a
course that discusses the development of media and ICT-based learning innovation, which starts
from the basis of media and innovation of learning, design, development and production of ICT-
based learning. The rapid development of ICT (Information and Communication Technology) is
very influential on the world of higher education. Higher education institutions must be able to
follow the development of ICT if they want to continue to survive in the midst of fierce
competition in the world of education. Learning methods are also developing along with the
development of the world of ICT, various web-based learning applications have begun to emerge
and are used by various educational institutions. Conventional learning methods that have been
carried out in the classroom face-to-face between teachers and lecturers are no longer sufficient
to answer the challenges that occur in the world of education today. Time constraints and
distance between campus and home, office and student work schedule are problems that can
interfere with lecturing activities. A prospective student sometimes does not go to college
because of the problem, even a student is forced to eventually drop out of college because the

lecture schedule cannot be in line with his work schedule (shift work). E-learning is expected to
be able to reduce these obstacles because teaching and learning activities are no longer limited
by distance and time. Students and lecturers no longer need to face-to-face, however, interaction
can be carried out through the help of an application used on E-learning. The tools needed for E-
learning must of course be available. E-learning minimal participants have a computer or laptop
and internet access. Some of the various e-learning in Indonesia, named Edmodo and Moodle
which have been implemented in several universities in Indonesia. Edmodo is one application
web-based e-learning is widely used. The reason for choosing Edmodo as an e-learning
application is that it is easy to use, anyone who is accustomed to using social media like
Facebook will be able to use Edmodo. Someone already accustomed to using Facebook is
generally just one time following a short training in using Edmodo will certainly be able to
operate it properly. Edmodo is one of the media that can prove the development of internet
education in the learning process. It can be concluded that edmodo functions as an assignment
and interaction platform between teachers and students, so edmodo allows it to be applied as a
support for learning.
MOODLE (short for Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment) is a
software package produced for internet-based learning activities and websites that use social
constructionist pedagogy principles. MOODLE is one of the applications of the concepts and
mechanisms of teaching and learning that utilize information technology, which is known as the
concept of electronic learning or e-learning Based on the social constructionist pedagogy, the
best way to learn is from the point of view of the students themselves. The object-oriented
teaching model (student) is different from the traditional teaching system which usually provides
information or material that is considered necessary by the teacher to be given to students.
Instructors' assignments will change from sources of information to influencers and become
examples of classroom culture. The role of the instructor in the Moodle system includes:
connecting with students individually to understand their learning needs and moderating
discussions and activities that lead students to achieve the learning goals of the class. Moodle is
an alternative form of e-learning that was chosen as a learning medium. Moodle has been
implemented as e-learning and can be used as an alternative learning media so that students do
not get bored. The moodleys are arranged to contain material, quizzes, and assignments, which
are done online. In addition, with the support of learning models in the form of e-learning, the

limitations of space and time between teachers and students in the transfer of knowledge can be
resolved.
The use of E-learning in a relevant and appropriate manner by the teacher, allows students to:
1. Be an active participant. If the use of ICT in learning still makes students passive, like the
teacher teaching by using presentation slides where the dominant one is himself, then the
technology is useless.
2. Produce and share knowledge / skills and participate as much as possible as befits an
expert.
3. learn collaboratively with other students.
4. Encourage students to want to learn independently
So ideally, with e-Learning it should allow for a learning process that:
Active; allows students to be actively involved by the existence of interesting and meaningful
learning processes.
1. Constructive; enable students to incorporate new ideas into prior knowledge to
understand the meaning or desire of knowledge and doubts that have existed in their
minds.
2. Collaborative; enable students in a group or community to collaborate with each other,
share ideas, suggestions or experiences, advise and provide input to fellow group
members.
3. Enthusiastic ; allows students to actively and enthusiastically strive to achieve the
desired goals.
4. Dialogical; Enabling learning process is inherently a social and dialogical process where
students benefit from the communication process both inside and outside of school.
5. Contextual; allow learning situations directed at meaningful learning processes
(realworld) through a "problembased or casebased learning" approach
6. Reflective; enable students to realize what they have learned and reflect on what they
have learned as part of the learning process itself. (Jonassen (1995), quoted by
Chaeruman (2009) from Norton et al (2001).
7. Multisensory; allows learning to be delivered for various learning modalities
(multisensory), both audio, visual, and kinesthetic (dePorter et al, 2000) cited by
Chaeruman (2009).

8. High order thinking skills training; makes it possible to practice higher-order thinking
skills (such as problem solving, decision making, etc.) and indirectly also increases "ICT
& media literacy" (Fryer, 2001) cited by Chaeruman (2009)
For English teachers, the internet offers several opportunities for professional development, such
as:
1. Improve their English knowledge to complement and also update, their previous English
knowledge;
2. share and look for sources / learning materials as much as possible in accordance with needs;
3. cooperate with teachers from abroad;
4. opportunity to publish directly his works
5. arrange regular communication with students;
6. participate in forums with colleagues both locally and internationally;
7. Access new teaching and learning plans & methodologies.
Specifically in learning English, the internet offers a variety of benefits, advantages and
opportunities for students in the form of:
a. the opportunity to learn English on your own faster;
b. the opportunity to increase knowledge of English more fully;
c. interactive learning with teachers and other students;
d. use English to communicate with people from other countries (to put English into
practice).
• In addition to the benefits above, it turns out based on the results of research conducted
by Azwar Rhosyied, and Bambang Wijanarko Otok, concluding that the use of the internet as a
learning medium is able to influence student learning motivation while increasing his creativity.
Another study conducted by Mustafa (2008) concluded that: "there is a significant relationship
between the application of e-Learning with motivation to learn".
• An English teacher can use the internet as a tool to increase student motivation in
several ways. First, by pointing out the facts that the internet as well as computers as the main
means of being able to connect to the internet itself actually uses English as the main language.
While other languages, including Indonesian, are supporting languages for users who cannot
speak English. As a language of support certainly has limitations, among others, that the
language can not be used to communicate with all people throughout the world. Unlike English
Riskawati / G2Q118012 TELL

as the main language, then without doubt we can use that language in any way and anywhere in
the world.
• Second, during the learning process the English teacher must give an example of how to
use the internet for learning English. The teacher can invite students to learn English online. The
English teacher must show students how interesting it is to learn English online, because they
can work on the questions and then immediately check the answers they make without fear of
being scolded by the teacher or laughed at by friends like when in class if their answers are
wrong. If their answer is wrong they can immediately get an explanation of why the answer is
wrong at the same time being told the correct answer. In addition, students can choose the level
of difficulty according to the ability they have whether they want beginner, preintermediate,
intermediate, or advanced levels. The form of the question you want to work on can be chosen in
accordance with the wishes whether you want multiple choice, field, or easay. For that the
teacher must know a number of sites that provide online training like that.
• Third, outside the learning process the teacher must provide opportunities for students
to communicate directly via e-mail or through social networks that are being loved by teenagers
today namely Facebook, through chat facilities or status updates. For that there is nothing wrong
if the teacher has a Faebook social networking account as a means to communicate with their
students. Based on the author's experience this method turned out to be quite effective in
motivating students to speak English. Even students who appear to be passive at class turn into
active students who want to use their English while chatting and want to ask questions about
problems related to learning English. One thing that is rarely found in class.
• Fourth, English teachers should routinely give students assignments to find answers or
solve them on the internet or on electronic school books (BSE) which can be easily found on the
internet. With more and more students using the internet to learn English,
