Questions About Your Own Essay

1. The most challenging part of writing my essay was determining where exactly I wanted
to go with the essay, in terms of once I told the story. I had trouble condensing everything
into the restrictions of the essay and figuring out which story was more important to
develop the thesis.
2. The easiest part of writing the essay was getting me ideas on the paper. I had no trouble
recalling ideas or deciding on what to write about. As I was writing I found that
everything flowed so easily and I was able to make more connections and come up with
new ideas.
3. I do think that I have achieved the purpose of the essay because I think I have shown,
with what I have so far, what my grandfather taught me and how. I believe that it will be
more developed when the essay is finished. Despite that I still believe that my purpose is
clear and concise.
4. I think that my essay fully supports the thesis, as well as, opens it up even more. My
essay is able to use multiple examples to defend and support the argument.
5. I think that to improve it, it needs to be finished. I also think that to improve it I can make
sure that I maintain the consistency of the amount of details I provide.
6. When I was reading my essay, I paid the most attention to the language I used and the
grammar. I wanted to make sure that the language was consistent and that there were no
grammatical errors. I also paid close attention to the flow of the argument/narrative to
make sure that the argument developed in a way that made the most sense.
7. I think that readers will be able to relate because I believe everyone has a person that
resonates with them or that provides them with guidance. Also I think everyone can relate
to feeling, at some point, like they do not belong or that they are different.
8. I think that the strongest part of my essay is the introduction because I feel like it really
sets a strong tone for the essay and hooks my audience in to my argument.
9. Other than finishing up my essay, the other thing that I think that I can improve on is my
storytelling in the last paragraph and making it more focused.
10. My favorite moment in my essay is the line “My grandfather (Pop), is truly a hero
because not only has he theoretically saved my life as well as inspired me, but
simultaneously through his lessons, he taught me how to save myself.” This is my
favorite moment because I think that it truly shows the impact that my grandfather had on
my life and attest to how much I truly valued my relationship with my grandfather.

The most useful thing about peer review was hearing a second opinion about my essay. This
was useful because it suppressed doubts that I had about the clarity of my essay. My peer was
able to express to me everything she learned and liked about my essay and confirmed that I
accomplished the goal of my essay. The peer review also allowed me to look at my essay
from the point of view of someone else. Hearing her ideas and reactions to my essay allowed
me to know what parts of my essay were working and which questions my essay needed to
answer for the reader.
