FIVE PILLARS OF ISLAM
Islam is based on Five Pillars. They are known as the Five Pillars
of Islam.
The Five Pillars of Islam are :
1) Ash-Shahadah ‫الشهادة‬
The declaration of faith: َّ ‫س هول‬

‫للا‬ ‫للاه هم َح َّمدَ َر ه‬ َّ ‫آل اِلَ َهَ ا‬
َّ ‫ِل‬
(There is no true God worthy of worship except Allah and
Muhammad ‫ ﷺ‬is His Messenger)
2) Salah ‫ص ََلح‬
َ
Salah is performing the five daily prayers.
3) Zakah ‫زَ كاة‬
Giving charity to the poor. All rich Muslims must give Zakah to
the poor and those who are in need .
4) Sawm ‫ص ْوم‬
َ
Fasting in the month of Ramadan.
5) Hajj َ‫َح ّج‬
Performing the pilgrimage to Makkah. A Muslim visits the Ka'bah

at least once in his life for performing Hajj , if he is able to do so.

On the authority of Abdullah, the son of Umar ibn al-Khattab

(‫)رضي هللا عنه‬, who said:
I heard the Messenger of Allah (‫ )ﷺ‬say, "Islam has been built

on five [pillars]: testifying that there is no deity worthy of
worship except Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of
Allah, establishing the salah (prayer), paying the zakat
(obligatory charity), making the hajj (pilgrimage) to the House,
and fasting in Ramadhan." [Bukhari & Muslim]

IMAAN – The Faith Of a Muslim
،‫َأ ْن تُؤْ ِمنَ بِا َ هَّلل ِ َو َم ََلئِ َكتِ ِه َو ُكتُب ِ ِه َو ُرسُ ِل ِه َو ْالي َ ْو ِم ْاْل ِخ ِر‬
‫َوتُؤْ ِمنَ ب ِ ْال َقدَ ِر َخي ِْر ِه َوش ِ َِّر ِه‬
"It is that you believe in Allah and His angels and His Books and His
Messengers and in the Last Day, and in fate (qadar), both in its
good and in its evil aspects." (Hadith e Jibreel)
lman is an Arabic word. It means faith.

All Muslims have common beliefs.
A Muslim must know these beliefs. He must utter them with his
tongue and accept them in his heart.
There are Six Pillars of Iman also called as Articles of Faith.

A Muslim has faith (lman) in :
1) Allah ‫للاه‬
ّ
Muslims believe in worshipping one true God, Allah, Who is our

Creator and Sustainer. He has no partners and there is none like
Him.
2) His Angels ‫مالئكة‬
Muslims believe that Angels exist, and are created from light.
They have been created, for the purpose of worshipping Allah.
Some of the Angels are Jibreel, Mikaeel, Israfeel, Maalik etc.

3) His Books
Muslims believe in all of the Divine Books that Allah revealed to
His Messengers and Prophets.
The Taurah was sent to Prophet Musa (‫)عليه السالم‬.
The Zabur was sent to Prophet Dawud (‫)عليه السالم‬.
The Injeel was sent to Isa (‫)عليه السالم‬.
And the Qur’an is sent with Prophet Muhammad (‫)ﷺ‬.

The Qur‘an is the last Book that was revealed by Allah and there
will never be any other divine book after it.
4) His Messengers
Muslims believe in Prophets and Messengers sent by Allah to
guide people. Every nation was sent a Prophet. The first Prophet
was Adam (‫ )عليه السالم‬and the last Prophet was Muhammad
(‫)ﷺ‬.
5) The Day of Judgment

Muslims believe that everything will die and end except Allah.
Allah will bring us back to life after death on the Day of
Judgment. Those who have done good will be rewarded and
those who have done bad will be punished.
Reward is Jannah and punishment is Jahannum.
6) Divine Destiny in the truth that everything good or bad

comes from Allah
Muslims believe everything that happens is by the permission of

Allah. Everything good or bad happens is a test from Allah.

Names and Functions of the 3 Greatest Angels of Life
Responsible for bringing down Revelation, which

1. Jibraeel ‫ِج ْب ِریل‬
brings life into the hearts.
Responsible for Plants and Rain, which brings life

2. Mikaeel ‫میكائیل‬
to the earth after its death.
Responsible for blowing the Trumpet, which will

SUPPLICATIONS ‫األذكار‬
ْ ‫فَا ْذك ُُرونِي أ َ ْذك ُْر ُك ْم َوا‬

ِ ‫شك ُُرواْ ِلي َوالَ ت َ ْكفُ ُر‬
‫ون‬
Therefore remember Me (by praying, glorifying), I will remember you, and be
grateful to Me (for My countless favours on you) and never be ungrateful to Me.
DUA AFTER WAKING UP IN MORNING

‫ٰ ذ ح ح‬
‫حياناَب حعدماَأماتناَِإَوَلحهَالنُّشورَح‬ ‫ح‬ ‫ح‬
‫ّللَاَّلىَأ‬
َ َِ َ‫اَْلمد‬
‘All praise is for Allah who gave us life after having taken it from us and
unto Him is the resurrection’
ُ ‫ح‬ ‫ح ح‬ ‫ذ ٰ ح‬
َ‫ك‬ َ ََ‫ّللَوحدهََلَشيحكََلََلََالملكََوَلََاْلمدَََوهوَََع‬
‫ح‬ َ ‫لَٱ‬ َ ‫لََإلََإ‬
‫ح‬ ٰ ٰ ‫ذ‬ ٰ ‫ح ح‬ ٰ
ََ‫ّللَأكب‬ َ ‫ّللَوََٱ‬
َ ‫لَٱ‬ َ ‫ّللَولََإلََإ‬ َ ‫َسبححانََٱ‬،ََ‫َشءََقديحر‬
َ ‫ّللَواْلمدََٱ‬ ‫ح‬
‫ُ ح‬ ‫ح‬ ‫ح‬ ‫ذ ذ ٰ ح‬
‫ح‬ ‫ح‬
،‫بَاغف َرَ َل‬ ُ
َ ‫َر‬،ََ‫لَالعظيم‬
َ ‫ّللَالع‬ َ ‫َولََح حولََولقوةََإ‬،
َ ‫لَبا‬
‘None has the right to be worshipped except Allah, alone, without any
partner, to Him belong sovereignty and praise and He is over all things wholly
capable. How perfect Allah is, and all praise is for Allah, and none has the
right to be worshipped except Allah, Allah is the greatest and there is no
power nor might except with Allah, The Most High, The Supreme, O my Lord
forgive me’

‘All Praise is for Allah who has clothed me with this [garment] and provided
it for me, with no power nor might from myself’

‘I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped except Allah, alone,
without any partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and
Messenger’
‫ح‬ ُ ‫ح‬ ‫ح‬ ‫ح ح‬ ‫ذذ ح‬ ‫ح‬ ‫ذ ذ ح ح‬

َ ‫نَمنََالمتطهري‬
‫ن‬ َ ‫يَواجعل‬
َ ‫نَمنََاتلواب‬
َ ‫الله َمَاجعل‬
‘O Allah, make me of those who return to You often in repentance and make
me of those who remain clean and pure’
‫ح ح‬ ‫ذ ح‬ ‫ح ذ‬ ‫ح‬ ُ
‫ح‬
ََ‫لَأنتََأستغفركََوأتوب‬
َ ‫لَإلََإ‬ َ ‫سبححانكََالله َمَوبحمدكََأشهدََأ‬
َ َ‫ن‬ ‫ح‬ ‫ذ‬
َ‫إَلحك‬
‘How perfect You are O Allah, and I praise You, I bear witness that none has
the right to be worshipped except You. I seek Your forgiveness and turn in
repentance to You’

‘O Allāh forgive me my sins and make spacious for me my residence and bless
me in my provision’

‘O Allah, by your leave we have reached the morning and by Your leave we
have reached the evening, by Your leave we live and die and unto You is our

ََ‫الله َمَبكََأمسيناَوبكََأصبحناَوبكََنياَوبكََنموتََِإَوَلك‬

‘O Allah, by Your leave we have reached the evening and by Your leave we
have reached the morning, by Your leave we live and die and unto You is our
return’
‫ح‬ ‫ح‬ ‫ٰ ذ‬
‫ذ‬ ‫ح‬ ‫ح‬
ََ‫اسمهَََشءََيفََاْلرضََولََيفََالسماءََوهو‬ ُّ
َ ََ‫ضَمع‬
َ ‫يَلي‬‫ح‬ َ ‫ب حسمََٱ‬
َ ‫ّللَاَّل‬
‫السميحعََالحعليمَح‬
‫ذ‬
‘In the name of Allah with whose name nothing is harmed on earth nor in
the heavens and He is The All-Seeing, The All-Knowing’ (3 TIMES)

‘None has the right to be worshipped except Allah, alone, without any
partner, to Him belong all sovereignty and praise, and He is over all things

َ ‫سبححانََٱ‬
ََ‫ّللَوبح حمدهََعددََخلقهََورضاَنفسهََوزنةََعرشهََومداد‬
‫ح‬
َ‫َكماته‬
‘How perfect Allaah is and I praise Him by the number of His creation and
His pleasure, and by the weight of His throne, and the ink of His words’
(3 TIMES IN MORNING)
‫ذ‬ ُ ‫ح‬ ‫ح‬ ‫ح‬ ُ ‫ذ‬

َ‫نَأسألكََعلماََنافعاََورزقاََطيباََوعملََمتقبل‬
‘O Allah, I ask You for knowledge which is beneficial and sustenance which
is good, and deeds which are acceptable’
ٰ
‫ّللَاتلذ ذ‬
َ‫َشَماَخلق‬ َ‫اماتََم ح‬
َُ َ‫ن‬ َ ‫أعوذََبكلماتََٱ‬
‘I take refuge in Allaah’s perfect words from the evil He has created’
(3 TIMES)
‫ذ‬ ُ ‫ح‬ ُ ُ ‫ذ ذ‬
َ‫لَوسل َمََعََنبيناَُممد‬
َ ‫الله َمَص‬
‘O Allah, send prayers and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad’

DUA DURING A WIND STORM

‘O Allah, I ask You for its goodness and I take refuge with You from it’s evil’
DUA WHEN HEARING A THUNDER

َ ‫سبححانََاَّليَيسبحََالرعدََِبمدهََوالملئكةََم‬
َ‫نَخيفته‬‫ح‬ ‫ح‬
‘How perfect He is, [The One] Whom the thunder declares His perfection
with His praise, as do the angels out of fear of Him’
DUA WHEN RAINING

ُ ‫ذ‬ ‫ذ‬
َ ‫الله َمَصيباََناف‬
‫عا‬
‘O Allah, may it be a beneficial rain cloud’

َ ‫نَشاءََٱ‬
‫ّلل‬ َ ‫ذهبََالظمأََوابتلتََالعروقََوثبتََاْلجرََإ‬
‘The thirst has gone and the veins are moistened, and reward is confirmed,
if Allah wills’
DUA BEFORE EATING

When you are about to eat, you should say
ٰ
‘In the name of Allah’
...and if you forget to say it before starting, then you should say [when you
remember]:

َ ‫ب حسمََٱ‬
َ‫ّللَيفََأ ذولََوآخره‬
‘In the name of Allah in its beginning and end’

‫ّللَ ذاَّليَأ حطعمنَهذاَورزقنيهَم حنَغ حيَح حولَم ُنَولَقوةَذ‬

‘All praise is for Allah who fed me this and provided it for me without any
might nor power from myself’

DUA AFTER DRINKING MILK
‫ح ح‬ ‫ح‬ ُ ُ
‫الله َمَباركََلاَفيهَوزدناَمن َه‬
‘O Allah, bless it for us and give us more of it.’
DUA UPON SNEEZING
ٰ ‫ح ح‬
When one of you sneezes he should say:
َ ََ‫اْلمد‬
‫ّلل‬
All praise is for Allah
...and his brother or companion should say to him:
ٰ
َ‫ي حرْحكََٱّلل‬
‘May Allah have mercy upon you’
...and he [i.e. the one who sneezed] replies back to him:
‫ح‬ ٰ
َ ‫ي حهديحكمََٱ‬
َ‫ّللَويصلحََبالك حم‬
‘May Allah guide you and rectify your condition’
DUA TO BE RECITED WHEN ANGRY
‫ذ‬ ‫ح‬ ‫ذ‬ ٰ

َ‫ّللَمنََالشيطانََالرجيم‬
َ ‫أعوذََبا‬
‘I take refuge with Allah from the accursed devil’

‫حَالحق ُّيومََوأتوبََإَل َهح‬

َُّ ‫لَهوََال ح‬

َ ‫أ حستغفرََٱ‬
َ ‫ّللَالعظيمََاَّليَلََإلََإ‬
‘I seek Allah’s forgiveness, besides whom, none has the right to be
worshipped except He, The Ever Living, The Self-Subsisting and Supporter of
all, and I turn to Him in repentance’

َ‫سَ َبححَانََٱّلل‬
‘Glory be to Allah’
TAHMEED
ٰ ‫ح ح‬
َ ََ‫اْل َمد‬
‫ّلل‬ َ
‘All the praises and thanks be to Allah’

‘There is no true God worthy of worship except Allah’

‫ أ َ َن النَب َي صلى هللا عليه وسلم قَا َل; "بَلغُوا‬،‫ّللا بن عَم ٍرو‬ َ ‫عَن عَبد‬
‫علَ َى‬
َ ‫ب‬ َ َ‫ َو َمن َكذ‬،َ‫ َو َحدثُوا عَن بَني إس َرائي َل َولَ َح َرج‬،ً‫عَني َولَو آیَة‬
."‫ُمتَعَمدًا فَليَتَبَ َوأ َمقعَ َدهُ م َن النَار‬
Narrated `Abdullah bin `Amr:
The Prophet (‫ )ﷺ‬said, "Convey (my teachings) to the people even if it

were a single sentence, and tell others the stories of Bani Israel (which
have been taught to you), for it is not sinful to do so. And whoever tells
a lie on me intentionally, will surely take his place in the (Hell) Fire."

The Five Pillars of Islam are :

The declaration of faith: َّ ‫س هول‬

Salah is performing the five daily prayers.

1. Aadam ‫آ َٰدم‬ 14. Moosa ‫موسٰى‬

2. Idrees ‫إِد ِْرْٰیس‬ 15. Haroon ‫َهار ْٰون‬

3. Nooh ‫ن ْٰوح‬ 16. Dhul-Kifl ‫ذوٰٱ ْل ِك ْفل‬

4. Hood ‫هٰ ْٰود‬ 17. Dawood ‫دَاود‬

5. Saleh ‫صا ِلح‬

6. Ibraheem ‫إِ ْب َرا ِهْٰیم‬ 19. Ilyaas ‫إِ ْل َیاس‬

7. Ismaa’eel ‫س َما ِعْٰیل‬

9. Loot ‫ل ْٰوط‬ 22. Zakariyyaa ‫َزك َِریَّا‬

10. Ya’qoob ‫یَ ْٰعق ْٰوب‬ 23. Yahyaa ‫یَ ْحیٰى‬

11. Yusuf ‫ی ْٰوسف‬ 24. ‘Eesaa ‫ِعیسٰى‬

12. Shu’aib ‫ش َعْٰیب‬ 25. Muhammad ‫م َح َّمد‬

13. Ayyoob ‫أَیُّ ْٰوب‬

Responsible for bringing down Revelation, which

Responsible for Plants and Rain, which brings life

Responsible for blowing the Trumpet, which will

Duties Assigned to other Angels

Dark and Blue Angels responsible for questioning

Angel of Mountains offered Prophet Muhammad

Responsible for driving the clouds wherever Allah

Gatekeepers of Paradise The guardian angel of Hell-fire, who is assigned to

These angels protect each person from harm and

Angel Qareen inspires good deeds and Jinn

‫آن ِل ِلذ ْك ِر فَ َه ْل ِمن ُّم َّد ِكر‬

And we have indeed made the Qur’an easy to
