Purpose : To inform the 3 reasons why student want to continue to university

Title : What is the motive for your college?

I. Introductory Paragraph
Thesis statements: There are 3 kinds students who want to continue education in university
such as students looking for job, students intending to make improvement, and student
reaching for higher social status.

II. Body Paragraph

A. Topic sentence: The first student looking for job
Supporting details:
 Pay attention to the label of university
 Get your best score
 Get as much work experience as possible

B. Topic sentence: secondly, intending to make improvement

 Start from small neighborhood
 Help the country to solve the problem

C. Topic sentence: the last one just for reaching higher social status
 There are some parents proud with degree of their children
 To be seen knowledgeable

 What is the motive for your college?

This world is always evolving. And human are also required to develop themself. To face
this situation we should have knowledge. As successor for next generation, the students have
to update their knowledge by learning as much as they can. By learning something, we also
have basic knowledge to do something. Let me give you an example; imagine if you learning
about how to make simple fertilizer based on leaves. Because you know how the procedure is,
you can persuade your neighbors, your friends and other people who live in the same place
with you also to make it. Then, people will follow up your step and it could reduce litter of
leaves. It reflect that you are have a big attention to your environment around you, so you can
choose major, like Environmental Engineering or another major that relate into your skill. For
high school students, it’s crucial thing to make a good reason why i have to continue my
journey to the university. There are 3 kinds of students who want to continue education in
university; students looking for job, students intending to make improvement, and student
reaching for higher social status.
The first one is, student looking for job. The main reason to continue into the university is
to get some preparation for job. There are some important things that students should know
about getting a job, like the label of your university, your score and also your working
experience. The label of the university can affect the possibilities you get the job. In fact, 70%
graduates from Universitas Negeri Jakarta have ability to work in education or the graduates
from Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) are known have skill to work in engineering. It’s
up to you where you want to work, but you also have to consider what the company really
need. In the university, college students only get formal education with an average 144
credits. In fact, there are still students who want high score and they have good appetency of
studying. Although not doubt score is supporting factor when you get a job, but skill also
important to. “Clever in college is not enough”. The solution is, in the weekend you can try
seminar of training from some companies, join the organization, do volunteer work with your
friends or take weekend part-time job. Besides your vacation, you also getting working
experience and it will be very useful when you apply for a job.
 The second is, students intending to make improvement. Some college students want to
makes renewals after graduated from the university. The knowledge they have got from
college can applied into the small neighborhood. For example, if you are from electronic
engineering major which is you have basic skills about electricity you can make a simple lamp
out of plastic bottle and solar panel. Then, make some groups for making electrical circuit,
collecting the bottles, installation and another division. Indirectly, you make jobs for people,
help the government in powers problem and also help to cure the environmental issues. So,
the government funds for power affairs can be distracted into other problems. In another case,
the problems come from the old buildings. The old buildings just make the city look worse.
The solution to make the buildings look better, change it into the vertical garden or vertical
farm. Like Dickson Despommier, professor of Environmental Sciences and Microbiology at
Columbia University believes, buildings including the old buildings in the city will be the
urban farms. He said, “You can control everything indoors.” Crops grow in a controlled
environment will not be threatened by natural disaster like floods, droughts, or storms. The
cost will be lower than conventional farming because no herbicides or pesticides are use.
Another benefit of this vertical garden, has direct impacts on urban ecology, making them
more independent and empowered, creates jobs and income for the city.
The last one is students reaching for higher social status. For kind of student like this,
they only study in the college with pretty good score, but they have no idea what to do in
college, and there is no skill at all and it does exist. But, they have big ambition to get
bachelor degree. Their desires to earn the bachelor’s degree are also supported by their
parents. It can be seen when their parents also do not allow their children to join any activities
outside of studying. So, they can focus only on their academic skills. It means nowadays there
are still exists parents who are very proud with their children bachelor’s degree. Even though
their children graduated from the best university but they don’t have good hard skill and soft
skill, the parents will be embarrassed by them. For this type, they can be seen knowledgeable.
In fact, people who want to look knowledgeable are not very smart at all in the field of
academic and non- academic. This is what makes people feel weird with this type of student
because their desire to look knowledgeable is not comparable with the effort to get a
bachelor’s degree.
 In summary, the students who want to go to college should have a motivation. They can
earn job preparation. Gaining knowledge to make improvement. Reaching higher social status
as a scholar also can be one of motivation. Hopefully, the student have consider their decision
about college and they not confuse what to do when graduated from the university
