Premier/ Encore Subsystem: PC Controller
Premier/Encore Software Reload

Problem:
When the system is powered up, the unit will hang at the System Startup Please Wait screen.

Reason:
While this could be caused by a bad hard drive, it is typically caused by a corrupted Windows NT
file. When this happens, the software will cease to load past a certain point. This can be
monitored by hooking up an external monitor (or VGA extension cable) to the system and
powering it on and observing the boot up sequence. The following procedure reloads the
Windows and the base software to the hard drive. It DOES NOT reload any additional
options that the site may have and will delete all images on the hard drive.

Solution:

1. Connect an external monitor to the back of the system OR using a VGA extension cable,
connect one end to the back of the system and the other end to the Auxillary VGA input cable
underneath the monitor itself.
2. Power on the system and immediately hold the DELETE key until the “Phoenix-AwardBIOS
CMOS Setup Utility” appears on the screen
3. Using the down arrow, highlight the Advanced BIOS Features and press ENTER.
4. Arrow down again to highlight First Boot Device and change it from HDD0 to CDROM using
the Page Up or Page Down keys.
5. Using the Arrows again, move down to highlight Second Boot Device and change it using the
Page Up or Page Down keys to change it from CDROM to HDD0
6. Open the CD tray and insert the CD containing the V3.2.3 Fluoroscan Software Reload Disk
and close the tray.
7. Press F-10 and the SAVE to CMOS and EXIT dialogue box will appear and than press
ENTER to save the changes and the system will reboot.
8. Observing the external monitor, when prompter, press any key to continue and the Ghost
Software will load and begin to copy the software onto the hard drive.
9. After the software is copied, a G:\> will appear on the screen. At this point, eject the CD and
close the tray.

10. Cycle the power on the Encore system.
11. When prompted, enter the Serial Number of the system that you are working on which can be
found on the large label on the rear of the machine.
12. Log in using “Checkmate” and restore the system settings to the Factory Default settings as
found in the Encore Operators Manual.
13. Enter at least one User Password that the facility uses.
14. Ensure that any options that the facility has purchased with the system are also restored such
as DICOM or increased image storage. The facility should have the Options Disks available
for install.
NOTE: It is not necessary to change the boot sequence back to the original configuration.
