Our school’s SIP goals are primarily centered on student behavior and transition, as we are an alternative school. One of the

major problems we face is that so many of our students go back to their base schools only to repeat offenses and return. Only this

time, they are suspended for 365. This proves that students are not getting the skills necessary to be behaviorally and socially

responsible to make the transition to a traditional classroom. Last year, our school district adopted the Restorative Practice Model for

all of its schools. I would say that we did not do well implementing and carrying out the initiative as it does not involve punitive

consequences that most alternative schools are used too. However, it did make us aware of some reasons why we had not seen

measurable growth and student achievement that we hoped to see. Our School Improvement Team proposed that we add a new

position that will enhance the Restorative Practice Model.

PSEL Standard 1: d states that administrators strategically develop, implement, and evaluate actions to achieve the vision for

the school. Adding a transition coach to our student support team will help us achieve this standard. Moreover, data collected by our

Multi-tiered System of Support Team (MTSS) supports the proposal for adding the new position to the budget. Anne Boyd and her

late husband wrote a behavior curriculum, which includes a textbook, which will be used in the transition program.

No matter how good an idea is, it must be evaluated periodically to assess its efficacy. According to PSEL Standard 1: e

administrators review the school’s mission and vision and adjust them to changing expectations and opportunities for the school, and

changing needs and situations of students. The SIP team recognizes that trends in education change all the time. Therefore, we are

committed to making adjustments for the sake of student success.
