8
CHALLENGES / PROBLEM FORMULATION
❑ Establish the pipeline pressure profile, temperature profile, fluid velocity profile and flow
regime along the pipeline during steady state condition at normal and 20% flowrate
margin. Compare with the design Criteria.
❑ To predict the required pipeline outgoing pressure as a check to current booster
Compressor Sizing at SPG K and SPG PG:
❑ At outlet of SPG K to achieve arrival pressure of 300 psig at inlet of SPG PG
❑ At outlet of SPG PG to achieve arrival pressure of 750 psig at inlet of SPG M
❑ At outlet SP KU to achieve arrival pressure of 100 psig at inlet manifold of SPG K
❑ Pipeline capacity adequacy checks include
❑ Check pipeline velocity & erosional velocity, compare with design criteria
❑ Predicting a steady state liquid hold up in the pipeline (if any)

3. WORKFLOW (SIMULATION METHOD)
PIPESIM SIMULATION MODEL:
❑ SPG K – SPG PG Gas Trunkline.

3. WORKFLOW (SIMULATION METHOD)
PIPESIM SIMULATION WORKFLOW:
❑ SPG K – SPG PG Gas Trunkline
❑ Case: Base Case (21.84 MMscfd) & Alt. Case (26.2 MMscfd – 20% margin)
❑ Objective: Predict Pipeline Outgoing Pressure as a check for current Booster Compressor Sizing at
SPG K. Required Pressure at the outlet of trunkline (SPG PG Inlet Manifold) is 300 psig
❑ SPG PG – SPG M Gas Trunkline
❑ Case: Base Case (33.84 MMscfd) & Alt. Case (46.60 MMscfd – 20% margin)
❑ Objective: Predict Pipeline Outgoing Pressure as a check for current Booster Compressor Sizing at
SPG PG. Pressure at the outlet of trunkline (SPG M Inlet Manifold) is 750 psig.
❑ SPG KU– SPG K Gas Flowline
❑ Case : Base Case (9.08 MMscfd) & Alt. Case (10.89 MMscfd – 20% margin)
❑ Objective : Predict Pipeline Outgoing Pressure as a check for current Wellfluid Operating Pressure at
KU. Pressure at Destination (SPG K) is 100 psig.

13
3. WORKFLOW (SIMULATION METHOD)
DESIGN CRITERIA:
❑ Available Booster Compressor Discharge Pressure
❑ Booster Compressor at SPG K: 440 psig
❑ Booster Compressor at SPG P: 830 psig

❑ Single Phase Vapour Flow

❑ Maximum Velocity in a line carrying gas should be kept below 60 ft/s or velocity that may create
noise or vibration problem, whichever is lowest. Nevertheless, higher velocities are acceptable when
the predicted noise is less than 85 dbA measured on 3 ft distance from the line.

CONCLUSION - PRESSURE

31
PIPESIM SIMULATION RESULT - PRESSURE (1 of 2)
❑ The required outgoing pressure for 10” Gas trunkline (SPG K – SPG PG): 434 psig with no
flowrate margin and 484 psig with 20% flowrate margin. 20% flowrate margin is not suitable in
term of pressure drop. The pressure is exceeding the available compressor discharge
pressure at SPG K. The available pressure is 440 psig (at the outlet of DHU upstream PV
valve)
❑ The required outgoing pressure for 12” Gas trunkline (SPG P – SPG M): 813 psig with no
flowrate margin and 831 psig with flowrate margin. 20% flowrate margin may not suitable in
term of pressure drop. The pressure is slighty exceeding the available compressor discharge
pressure at SPG P. The available pressure is 830 psig (at the outlet of DHU Package upstream
PV valve)

❑ The required outgoing pressure for 8 inch Gas Flowline (SP KU – SPG K): 123 psig with no
flowrate margin and 131 psig with flowrate margin.

PIPESIM SIMULATION RESULT - OTHERS
❑ Gas temperature outlet the trunkline:
❑ 10 inch gas trunkline (SPG K – SPG PG): 80 oF (normal flowrate) & 80 oF (with 20%
flowrate margin)
❑ 12 inch gas trunkline (SPG PG – SPG M): 82 oF (normal flowrate) & 83 oF (with
20% flowrate margin)
❑ Wellfluid outgoing temperature for 8 inch gas (SP KU – SPG K): 113.6 oF (normal
flowrate) & 113.6 oF (with 20% flowrate margin)
❑ Gas Velocity and Erosional Velocity Ratio (EVR) at each gas trunkline/flowline is still
below design criteria
❑ Small liquid hold-up is found along 10, 12, and 8 inch gas trunkline & flowline. It is
expected that frequent pigging is not envisaged. Pigging may be required for
inspection purpose only
