Lesson Agenda:

5 min. Do Now
On a clean sheet of paper (to be collected) please write a 4 measure rhythm
involving quarter and half notes.

I will warm call students who are demonstrating exemplary work and ask them to
bring their work to the board

30 min. Guided Practice for Rhythm

Student work being on the board, I will give the class 3 minutes to try to clap out
the rhythms they see by themselves first.

After the 3 minutes, we will try it once. The expectation is that students are able to
do it, but it will only be about 60% perfect. Students will then be cold called to
annotate the music they see and work through each beat appropriately.

This cycle will happen 3 times (hence 30 minutes).

3 min. Individualized Practice Framing

.
Quickly, I will run through the criteria with the students as they prepare Little
Dances I and II, as well as Waltz for the critique on Friday:
Posture: Students are sitting correctly at the piano, placing their hands
appropriately (Middle C please) and keeping their fingers curved
Correct Notes: Students are expected to play the notes as they see them on the
page.
Correct Finger: Students are expected to place their fingers on the correct keys at
the correct time.
Tempo/Rhythm: Students are expected to take the exercises at a tempo with
which they can play comfortably, as well as demonstrate their ability to read
rhythm.

47 min. Individualized Practice

I will be going around to students giving feedback based on the criteria.
