1- Introduction

Sarir Oil Field is one of 10 to 12 super-giant field of the world. Credited with
11 to 13 billion bbl of oil in place, it is a water-drive reservoir that could, and
probably will recover nearly 50% of its total oil. The maximum oil column is 323 ft
and the area of surface closure is 155 sq miles. The oil reservoir is Cretaceous
Sandstone on basement, the probable oil source being the several hundred feet of
overlying Cretaceous marine shale. Structurally, the field is a combination of anticline
and high fault-block complex within a broad structural low. There appears to be good
fluid communication throughout the reservoir. Average porosity values are 18 to 19%,
and permeability values average several hundred millidarcys, with a few 2-3 darcy
streaks. The oil is sweet and sulfur free, though of high paraffin content.

X-1 we located in concession 65 on the western part of Sirt Basin, shown in (figure
1) the well was completed as perforated casing, Its total depth was 9075' the reservoir
mechanism is water drive.

2- Statement of Purpose

The purpose of this project is to exemplify an assemblage of concepts for

paradigms as listed below:

1- A vertical development well designed to optimally drain oil in the TGS

and/or Members 5AB, 5AC and 4 reservoirs in an uplifted fault block
near GC5.
2- Expected net oil pay is 110 feet.
3- Chose the ideal completion category for X-1.
4- Decide on the most appropriate method of artificial lift.
5- Evaluate the oil bearing zones and make decision which is the perfect
pay section of perforation.

3
We look forward in this project to present appropriate answers for the subsequent
questions:

1. What are the characterizations of well completion and what are its
categories, applications, tools and consequence?
2. How to evaluate the reservoir and mechanical considerations to select
the proper artificial lift for X-1?

3- Background

Development oil well located near station GC5 was drilling in April/2013 and
finished drilling operation in May/2013 by National Oil Wells Drilling and Workover
Company (N.O.C – COMPANY), because the well is located in an area fault bad,
resulting in the existence of four pay zones, only used two of zones for production.

4- Significance

The research study could present information on the issues of completion

protocol and technology particularly on the development wells. Further, this study
would also be an appraisal of the theoretical principles and concepts that we have
gained through our study, particularly in local area of the closure of the well X-1
which drilled in disconnect structure within the most important oil field in Libya. This
study would be beneficial to commission from Reservoir Engineering Management
(REM) and Production Engineering Management (PEM) as this study enhance the
knowledge of best way of completion and design by collecting more academic data so
that the new drilled well make available the highest production rate at lowest possible
cost , minimum formation damage and under safe conditions. Furthermore, this study
would be helpful to the Arabian Gulf Oil Company (AGOCO) and Faculty of
Engineering and Petroleum – Galo as a reference to a real case study and a complete
well file.

4
5- Methodology

This project is based on real data from new drilled well in Sarir C-Main field.

MUD LOGGING:
The well site geologist will examine and fully describe the cuttings every 10
feet paying particular attention to grain size and the presence of Kaolinitic Clays,
pyrite and hematite within reservoir sands.

WIRELINE LOGGING:
"Maxis System 500" logs are to be run at 1: 500 and 1: 200 scales when the well
has reached T.D. (9075' KB). The following logs will be run:
From T.D. to 9-5/8" CSG shoe (~7320' KB):
AIT, (no MCFL & SP), BHC Sonic, GR, CAL
From T.D. to 8075' KB:
GR, CAL, TLD, CNT, NGT.
However; processing and interpretation of wireline logs data of recently drilled well
X-1 encountered 135 feet of Total Net Oil Pay (Average Porosity 17% and Average
Water Saturation 23%) sitting above a Current Oil-Water Contact at 8473' Subsea. All
logs are running in open hole and many pressure samples are taken opposite to the
different zones and are going to be interpreted. To evaluate the appropriate sections to
be perforated after running casing or liner. Calculate Perforation Depth , Skin Factor,
Temperature, Formation Pressure, Shale Content and so many factors will be
measured or calculated to get more understanding of the case under study. The quality
of the collected data is very important for the project. Finally, the well X-1 will tie to
GC5 when completion is finalized.

6- Problems

1. The time period of organize, arrange and prepare the proposal is very short.

2. Data collection also very difficult because the main branch of the operator
company (AGOCO) is in Benghazi.

5
3. Synchronization the presentation with mid-term exams.
