- ADVENT is the first season in the Church’s Liturgical Calendar. (beginning)
- The word ADVENT from the Latin Word Adventus (GREEK “Parousia), means
“coming” or “Arrival”. The season of Advent is focused on the coming of Jesus as
Messiah (Christ or King).
- Advent is the 4-week period before Christmas when the Church celebrates the first
coming of Christ and anticipates his second coming.
- We use the symbol of the Advent wreath to help us prepare for Christmas.
- The season of Advent helps the Christians prepare for the Coming of the Messiah:
repentance; active participation in the liturgies; being forgiving, being loving….etc)

“You too must be patient. Make your hearts firm, because the coming of the Lord is at
hand.”

4. Deepening:
The word ADVENT from the Latin Word Adventus (GREEK “Parousia), means “coming”
or “Arrival”. The season of Advent is focused on the coming of Jesus as Messiah (Christ
or King). During the Season of Advent, we prepare by being repentant for our sins and
being kind and loving to others. It is in this season that we prepare ourselves for the
coming of Christ. Let our hearts be like of Mary who waited joyfully for the coming of Jesus.
Let us also imitate St. Ignatius who put Jesus as the focus in his life, our light this season
of Advent.
