LESSON PLAN FOR GRADE 8 ENGLISH (4TH QUARTER)

(My Changing Perspectives)

DESCRIPTION

In this lesson, the students will be studying reading selection “The Singa”. The story is
about how Singapore got its name. It also about how the king, Sang Nila Utama, sacrificed his
own crown, which is very important to him, for the safety of his people.
The story is rich in socio-cultural values and attitude. The focus of the story is to persuade
people to know about their origin, and also help develop critical thinking skills to evaluate, make
wise choices, and formulate fair judgment and decisions.
There will be group differentiated and individual task that will be used for establishing
student’s insights and critical thinking skills for the better understanding and appreciation of the
story that will let them share and apply the moral in real-life situation.

I. GOALS
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
 Use context clues for coping with unfamiliar words and ideas
 Identify the main character’s major traits and information using the Character
Analysis Pyramid.
 Categorize the given elements of the story “The Singa”.
 Apply the understanding of the story through differentiated activities.

III. PROCEDURE

A: Preliminary Activity:
1. Routine:
a. Prayer and greetings

2. PUZZLE
 The class will be divided into four.
 Each group will be given sets of puzzles, connected (characters, setting,
plot) to The Singa, to solve.
 After the students solved the puzzle, volunteers will give their idea about
how they think Singapore has gotten its name.

Direction: Identify the main character and its major traits and information using the
Character Analysis Pyramid below. Assign a member to present the output.

Direction: Draw the theme of the story. Assign a member to explain or describe the
poster made by the group
Guide Question: Sang Nila Utama Sacrificed his crown for his crew. In case your
love one/s is/are in trouble what can you sacrifice for them? Why?

Group IV: ROLE PLAY


Direction: Present a skit showing the sacrifice for the betterment of many.
Scene: Your friends are in trouble, the only thing that can save them is the most
important thing to you. Would you sacrifice it for them? Why or Why not?

IV: AGREEMENT
Presentation of the differentiated tasks outputs.
