Demonstrate professional qualities: Raiha was always on time and v
fully prepared for her classes. She was able to show initiative when
placed in a "Study" class. Raiha was also well presented depending
upon the kaupapa was and dressed accordingly.

Manage student behaviour: Raiha had an excellent rapport with her v

students and was able to keep them engaged in the set topic. Being a
past pupil was an advantage in which Rai'ha used to encourage
meaningful dialogue and control over her class. Due to this there was
a mutual respect that kept the tone in the class at a workable level.

Establish and maintain professional relationships: Raiha was able to v

find a happy balance between former teachers and new to create a
very proactive relationships with all staff and Principal alike. Raiha
has a very vibrant personality and has offered to go beyond her
placement's scope to ensure that the working environment is
conducive to what she perceives as suitable for her students to
achieve.

Plan and prepare lessons/units: What I noted was well planned and v
flexible enough to suit the abilities of all the students in the class.
Raiha was able to adapt her programme to suit what was already
being taught and put her own flavour to it. These plans were clear and
concise and created/ so they can be expanded upon in the future
when Raiha is required to for her own classes.

Demonstrate subject knowledge and skills: Raiha was very versed in v

what she wanted to impart in her students and found a happy
medium by which she was comfortable that her students were able
to achieve, more so enjoy what was delivered. Raiha is a very good
coach who can use those qualities in the class to a great benefit. The
discipline required to achieve excellence in a game has been
transferred into the classroom.
Demonstrate familiarity with subject curriculum: Raiha has a passion v
to 'Coach' which is evident in the style she adopts to ensure her
messages are taken in by the students. P.E and Health are strengths
that go beyond the classroom in which Raiha has shown in our extra-
curricular activities. Assistance with Netball, athletics, Rugby 7's,
Chapel and kapahaka highlight the diversity that Raiha is capable of
displaying to enhance her ability to teach.

Apply assessment and evaluation processes: The process I was able to v

identify early was from verbal responses to encourage instant
approval by the students and motivate them as they completed each
task. From a review and reflect session at the end of some classes
some informal evaluation was done. Later this was transferred into a
more formal format for assessment.

Select, develop and use learning and teaching resources: The PE shed v
was well used and utilized by Raiha to maximize participation and
achievement. Although it is not well stocked Raiha was resourceful
enough to create a robust class environment.

Please comment on the Student Teacher's general progress during this practicum: Although Raiha is
a very confident teacher she became more comfortable in the knowledge that she was making a
difference and a good contribution to her "Old" school. This is not easy to achieve but the testament
of Raiha's true ability is in the respect she has gained from her teaching peers and her students/
especially her former Principal. We have a saying " Ahakoa he iti, he pounamu" although her time
was short here it was a valuable as the Greenstone.

Please suggest areas for continued professional development: It would be to Raiha's advantage if she
gets to experience many types of schools, of many sizes so she can see the versatility of this
profession. From this experience Raiha will be able to fully appreciate her old school in which I am
sure she has now seen a different side off.

Please comment on the Student Teachers general progress during this practicum:
Raiha has developed immensely over the duration of this practicum. At the beginning she was,
understandably, very reluctant to be in front of the class and leading the learning and teaching.
However, by the end of the practicum she was ready and excited at the beginning of every lesson she
needed to teach. Her confidence has blossomed, and it is reflected in the how the lessons that she
delivered to her learners have developed.
She has become very creative, enthusiastic and thoughtful when she is planning and delivering each
lesson. She has developed her understanding of the subject area and evidence of this can be seen in
the range and variety of learning activities and tasks she implements to target the learning outcomes
and intentions she sets.
Raiha has a keen focus on team. Everything she does encourages a harmonious and productive
environment for all her learners to engage in. Her use of collective and inclusive language is excellent.
Raiha's use of language was absolutely wonderful, from the very first lesson I observed.
Raiha has a kind and calm presence in the classroom.

I am looking forward to Raiha being a part of the teaching community and believe that she is going to
be a fabulous secondary educator!
Kia u kite pai.

Please suggest areas for continued professional development:

Always know where all the learners are, especially if you are out of the classroom.
Address counterproductive behaviour immediately.
Wait for all learners to be attentive and actively participate before giving instructions.
