here but students, you do

you have to do is to read
it aloud.

to the learners.
 Next, the teacher will
instruct the students to
read the first stanza
“Bahay Kubo” Folk Song.

After reading it, does anyone

here are familiar with the
“Bahay Kubo” Folk Song.` In
my count of three we will start
to sing the song.

 Next, the teacher will

Folk Song.

hands or not.
 The questions will arise on

between in just reading
the lyrics of “Bahay Kubo”
than singing it with its tune.

The learners will sing the

Now, can you tell me what did
Bahay Kubo song.
you notice in singing and just
reading the song?

Very good! When we read the

lyrics, it’s just like a poem. But
when we sing the lyrics of the
song with its tune, it turned to
a song. The tune of the song is
what we called Melody.
In reading the lyrics, we can’t
tell that it’s a song. We are
just like citing a poem, but
when we sing it, we know
that it’s a song.
B. Development

 The teacher will discuss on

how the activity of
reading and singing
relates from concept of
melody.

When we just read a song, we

are just speaking word by
word, but when we sing a
song, we know that it’s a song
because it has a Melody.
 The teacher will discuss
the definition of the
melody.

When we say Melody,

basically it is the tune of the
song. Melody is the main part
in a musical composition. It is
also the pleasing arrangement
of the sound. It is the sound
that we hear when we listen to
a song.

 Based on the activity of

singing the “Bahay Kubo”,
the elements of melody
will be discussed
according to the used
elements of the song.

In discussing the Melody of a

song, we have 3 elements that
the Melody won’t live without.
These are the Duration, Pitch
and Quality. These are
combined to become a
musical whole which is
commonly recognized by the
listener.

 Illustrate the elements of

melody on the song
“Bahay Kubo”.

First is the Duration or the

length of time a pitch or tone,
is sounded. It basically explains
on how long the note will be
sounded.

 The teacher will sing the

first line of the “Bahay
Kubo” with two different
duration.

For example,” Bahay Kubo,

kahit munti.” (with the long
duration). That is what we
called long duration.

Next, ” Bahay Kubo, kahit

munti.” (with the short
duration). That is what we
called short duration.
 The teacher will use her
hands to illustrate the high
and low pitch.

Second is the Pitch or the note

of the song that has a high or
low pitch.

I will use my hand to show you

the high and low pitch of the
song. If my hand goes up the
pitch is high and when my
hand goes down the pitch is
low.

 The teacher will sing the

first to second line of the
song “Bahay Kubo” and
identify how high or low
the pitch of the song is.
Last is the Quality or the
perceptual reaction to the
sound. This element depends
on how the listener accepts
the sound.

I will sing to you “Bahay Kubo”

in two different quality.
First “Bahay Kubo…” (first
quality).
Second “Bahay Kubo…”
(second)

Students can you tell me what

quality is more pleasing to your
ears? The first one or the
second one?

Who likes the first one? Raise

your right hand.
Who likes the second one?
Raise your right hand.

That is how you defined quality

is based on your own taste of
sound.

To sum up everything we learn

about what is melody, the
three elements of melody;
duration, pitch and quality.

 The teacher will sing two

different quality of the song
“Bahay Kubo” and will
discuss to the students on
how quality works in a song.
The students will raise their
hands according to their
chosen quality shown by the
teacher.

C. Application

entire “Bahay Kubo” in tune. an accurate melody.

students to sing the

the tune, accompanied
by a musical instrument
which is Keyboard.

the class by giving
attention to the
performed song; noticing
the being performed by
the class.
