 Make any necessary assumptions

## 1. Fig 1 shows a circular beam

supported by eight columns 7500mm
which are spaced equally. The
beam is subjected to Uniformly
distributed total factored design
711KN/m. Assuming C-25
concrete, S-300 steel, class I
work and longitudinal
reinforcement ratio, ρ = 0.0012, 450mm
a) check whether there is
Beam Cross section
diagonal compression failure
due to torsion or not. (5P)
b) using diameter 10 bars,
determine the required Fig 1 circular beam layout and cross section
spacing of closed stirrups and required number of longitudinal bars at the maximum torsion
position. (5P)

2. A simply supported deep beam is subjected for 856.5KN/m un-factored Uniformly distributed Live
load. The clear span is 3m and center to center span between supports is 3.8m. The depth of the beam
is 1.9m and its width is 0.5m. Assuming, C-30 concrete, S-500 steel, γc=24KN/m and class I work.
a) determine the required numbers of diameter 32 flexural reinforcement bars for the beam.
(5P)
b) determine the spacing of the vertical and horizontal stirrups required for the beam. (use diameter 10
bars and assume similar spacing for the vertical and horizontal stirrups).
(5P)

3. A corbel supports an ultimate load of 2660KN at a distance 500mm from face of a column. It has
width bw = 800mm and effective depth d= 950mm. The top of bearing is at a distance 250mm above
the tension tie. The characteristic material strengths are fck = 24Mpa and fyk = 500Mpa. Assuming
safe bearing, determine the amounts of main and link reinforcement bars (by using 32mm diameter
bar) required and show also the details.
