NATIONAL PEANUT LAB ANNOUNCES 50th ANNIVERSARY – It was 50 years ago that the local community of Dawson,
Georgia teamed together to land the internationally known National Peanut Lab. The NPRL is on the cutting edge of peanut research as
managed by the USDA Agricultural Research Service. Leaders are quick to note that ‘We are involved in variety selection, farming
practices, water management technology, biological control of harmful fungi, expert systems to help the farmer in decision making, and
reducing the environmental and financial cost of production.’
Dr. Marshall Lamb notes key research includes - Enhanced Sustainable Peanut-based Cropping Systems, Integrated
Management of Fungal Pathogens in Peanut to Reduce Mycotoxin Contamination and Yield Losses and Integration of Traditional
Methods and Novel Molecular Strategies for Improving Disease Resistance and Input-use Efficiency in Peanut.
The Anniversary Celebration is November 22 at the Lab at 1011 Forrester Drive in Dawson, Ga. Registration starts at 9:30 AM

2019 U.S. PEANUT ACREAGE UPDATE – The Farm Service Agency of USDA has updated the 2019 peanut acres as
reported by farmers as of October, 2019. These numbers are close to final acreage for peanuts.
U.S. PEANUT ACREAGE BY STATE (Harvested) UPDATE 2019 U.S. peanut acreage is predicted to be up 1%
STATE 2018 NASS 2019 NASS 2019 FSA ZIP compared to 2018.
FINAL Estimate FILE REPORT Harvested acres are usually 2.5-3% less than planted
October, 2019 acres. So, an estimate on harvested acres could be about
