The ideal city

The idea of having an ideal city seems almost impossible these days because of many
problems around the world and the society we live in. But we can only have hope and
dreams. Nobody knows what exactly what does a city, ideal. It can be seen from many
points of view, for example, social environment, economy, diversity, respect, people´s
empathy and way of life. In many cities, we can see empathy but with a lack of
devolvement towards industry, or cities with great technological advances and companies
just growing bigger and bigger everyday but people lacking empathy or interest for others.
What its missing in some countries, is abundant in others, but that´s life. The ideal cities
would be a combination of all these characteristics, that´s the logical thing to say, if
everything is the same, it could cause boredom and unhappiness for their habitants.
First of all, let´s take it from the industrial point of view, a great place to live would have
great development with companies that have the latest engineering invention, companies
both public and private giving their best to costumers. An example of public resources
would be, transportation, in cities from first world countries, like Toronto, Berlin, New
York, London and countless more, it is visible the fact that they have multiple means of
transportation, giving all economy classes an option for a good mean and that can adjust to
their budget without poor conditions like subways and trains. And if we take private
business like malls or markets, they all have variety both economic and cultural, bringing
their citizens and visitors various options for them to subsist in the city.
On the other hand, for this to succeed it needs to be accompanied with the quality of people
living there, happy people who care for their city, welcoming visitors from other countries
and embracing their own culture. People just have respect for others and for their city, for
example, don’t smoke in public places, throwing trash in the can, graciously helping others,
etc., and that is achieved with empathy, the ability of putting yourself in other´s places.
Without this beautiful ethical value, none of the things mentioned before and in the last
paragraph could be done.
In conclusion, for achieving the ideal city it is necessary to have the combination of these
two impressions, the empathy being the most important, without these, we wouldn’t be able
to build these other material things, and wouldn’t be able to maintain them. If there is a new
park, and the citizens don’t have love for their place, how is this park going to stay clean?
This finalizes the point, if the city doesn’t have moral bases, such as, respect, care for
others, integrity, responsibility, fairness and many more, the city cannot prosper in terms of
development, leaving the idea of a metropolis behind. That also comes in hand with
education, but that something that can be easily taught, and when people start seeing
progress, they won’t back up. If the citizen loves its place of birth or living, everything
stays in place and working the way it supposed to.
