IELTS advantages and disadvantages questions normally give you a
statement and ask you to comment on the advantages and
disadvantages of that statement.

The problem is that there are 3 different types of advantages and

disadvantages essay and they each require a different approach. If you
answer them in a different way then you risk losing lots of easy marks.

This lesson will look at each of the three question types and suggest a
standard sentence-by-sentence structure

structures/) for each of them.  There will also be samples answers for
each of the three questions to help you compare and understand the
three approaches.

Question 1

In some countries young people are encouraged to work or travel for a

year between �nishing high school and starting university studies.

Discuss the advantages and disadvantages for young people who

decided to do this.

Question 2

Some experts believe that it is better for children to begin learning a

foreign language at primary schools rather than secondary school.
