For this assignment, I used the Essential Course Elements rubric to evaluate my course readiness.

Course Elements & Description Self-Evaluation


I used the example provided as well as the given
template to create my course syllabus to ensure that I
included all requirements for an online syllabus. I
believe that my overview, goals, course description,
resources, schedule, assessments, are all detailed, clear,
and easy to understand. I have also incorporated
policies and procedures, technical support, contact
information, email/etiquette, computing requirements,
and other special services. I don’t feel there are any
areas in which I need to elaborate or add to my online
syllabus.

For my online course, I have provided an online


interactive textbook that the students will be utilizing for
readings and assignments. Along with the written
content in each module topic, I have also included
graphics and videos for additional support. One
resource I did not include are articles or readings from
the internet.

My assessment area specifies the grading scale and


category weight per quarter. Along with this, it provides
a list of assignments that students will be expected to
complete. I believe that I’ve included a plethora of
assessments which are comprised of discussions, inquiry
labs, quizzes, explorations, tests, performance tasks, and
homework so that students of all ability levels will be
able to demonstrate and apply their knowledge of the
content gained throughout each module of this course.

The components within my assessment plan were clearly


defined, and I even identified what apps or websites will
be used with each type of assessment.

I provided a course outline that lists each module


included in this course. I only created a schedule for
module 1, so in order to make sure my course is ready
for students I would need to complete the schedule for
the other 6 modules. It would also be helpful to include
dates for each module and a tentative timeline with a
“to-do” list.
I believe that my syllabus, resources and activities are
all well-prepared, but my course site (moodle) could use
further preparation.
The guides for each course topic is specific and details
what the students will be learning in each module
subsection. By reading the objectives/goals and
outcomes, students should know exactly what their
expectations are, and what they will be able to do by the
end of each module.
I have a discussion question for module 1 provided on
the course site, but have not listed the discussions for the
remaining modules. The discussion question offered
asks students to make real-world connects to the content.

The course is almost complete independent. Students


will read the content, practice, and teach themselves
using the resources provided. In module 1 students will
be completing all tasks and assignments individually, in
the remaining modules there will be group work and
collaboration.

Course Improvements
In order to improve my online course for readiness, I could include additional reading materials such as
articles, journal items, or resources from the internet that are not a part of the online textbook. I also plan to
add a schedule for the remaining 6 modules of my online course. It would also be helpful to include dates
for each module and a tentative timeline with a “to-do” list, in order to ensure that students are successful
with time management and preparation for the completion of their assignments. My weebly as well as my
moodle site would need updated to reflect these changes. One last improvement would be to include more
collaborative group work within my course.
