III. Procedure
A. Activity
Direction: Identify the adverbial phrase in the following sentences.
1. He drove slowly.
2. I’ll be there in a minute.
3. Leave your laundry at the corner.

B. Analysis
What is an adverbial phrase?
What adverbial phrases have you found in sentence 1, 2, and 3?
How did you find the adverbial phrase?

C. Abstraction
Adverbial Phrase – is the term for two or more words which functions as an
adverb. We use adverb phrases most commonly to modify verbs.

Types of Adverbial Phrase

Adverbial phrase of time - states WHEN or HOW OFTEN something happens.


Example:
I’ll be there in a minute.
After class, they practice for the dance competition.
Mom nags every day.
Once in a while, he visits us at the orphanage.
Adverbial phrase of place - states WHERE something happens.
Example:
Leave your laundry at the corner.
You can’t park anywhere near the gate.
I used to live right here.
They’re playing in the backyard.

Adverbial phrase of manner - states HOW something is done.


Example:
After a tiring day at the park, they slept like a baby.
She responded in a very rude manner.
She eyed the box with delight.
Let’s discuss this matter in a civilized way.

D. Application (Group Work)


Direction: Underline the adverbial phrase and write the question (how, when,
where) it answers.
1. Our friend drives on Mondays.
2. Stacy and Nancy will walk on the sidewalk.
3. The snake slithers through the tall grass.
4. Mom combs my hair more gently than Dad does.
5. He found his lucky penny in the morning.
6. We raced our toy cars on the playground.
7. Shayla and Coral were reading their books in the car.
8. The music teacher played the piano better than her student.
9. Jenny tried to talk to Peter underneath the water.
10. Early in the morning the air was cold and fresh.
