The effect of concentration toward the rate formation of hydrogen gas

1. General notice and precaution

reaction is exothermic, you may feel warm or hot in your finger

2. Equipments
a. 3 ml volumetric pipet
b. Tweezer
c. Scissors
d. Bottle and cap with hole
e. 20 ml syringe
f. Stopwatch
g. Three way stopcock
3. Chemicals
a. Hydrochloric acid
b. Magnesium ribbon
4. Experimental Procedure
Experiment 1
a. Rince 3ml volumetric pipet with water before using it
b. Connect the the way stopcock with 20 ml syringe and put in into cap with hole
c. Cut magnesium ribbon into 1 cm lenght per piece
d. Drop 3 ml Hydrochloric acid into bottle
e. Put 1 cm length magnesium ribbon into cap with hole
f. Quickly but gently pour magnesium ribbon into bottle and close it tightly to proven gas
leaking and start the stopwatch to record time
g. Observe the bottle to see hydrogen gas form
h. Stop the stopwatch when magnesium ribbon is gone and the form of hygrogen gas is stops
i. Record the time and hydrogen gas volume in syringe
j. Repeat the same procedure by changing the magnesium ribbon with the small piece

Experiment 2
a. Rince 3ml volumetric pipet with water before using it
b. Connect the the way stopcock with 20 ml syringe and put in into cap with hole
c. Cut magnesium ribbon into 1 cm lenght per piece
d. Drop 1 ml Hydrochloric acid and 2 ml water into bottle

Conduct the time from both experment
