What is the difference between prejudice and discrimination?

Prejudice is when someone thinks of someone negatively and places them in a
category/stereotype. Discrimination is the actions that come when someone is thinking about
prejudice and usually is correlated with harrasment

that begins from 1877, to the 1950s where civil rights movement starts to happen
⦁ Give 3 facts about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
- He won a nobel prize in 1964
- He had a wife called Coretta
- He was assasinated on april 4th, 1968, at the age of 39
⦁ How can we see discrimination in the movie Selma? List at least 3 examples.
Martin was punched when he first arrived in selma and it was percieved as a normal thing, a
black church was bombed killing african american children, innocent black people was hit with
batons, tear gassed and was shot at when performing a non-violent protest.
⦁ What right is denied the black people in the movie Selma?
the rights to vote, which basically mean they don't have the rights to choose who would lead
them, which indirectly means they aren't considered as an american
⦁ What are some ways the government stopped black people from voting?
Black people are intimidated and are harrased by sherriffs when they try to vote. There's also a
voucher system which only allows people who have voted to give rights for other people to vote
which means only a minority of black people votes.
⦁ How does the President show discrimination in the movie? How does this change through
the movie?
The president shows discrimination in how he does not want to change the laws on how the
black people can't vote because he was afraid of the backlash of the white people on martin and
himself. The president then sees the selfishness and injustice of George Wallace, than he
decided that he does not want to be remembered the same way the people would remember
Wallace after they die, so he finally acted and hosted a public speech to the public that enforces
the law for equal voting and addressed the Selma bridge incident.
⦁ What role does faith play in Dr. King’s decisions in the movie Selma?
Faith is what keeps Dr. King keep going in selma, at times he feels like giving up, and he feels
like the effort isn't worth people getting hurt and killed, but faith allows him to keep going and to
push him towards the goal of opening people's eyes that God created all humans equally.
⦁ In what ways can you see prejudice or discrimination in today’s society?
Today prejudice and discrimination has decreased massively compared to the previous century
where black people were slaves and not considered equal and now where a black person has
become president in America. Prejudice and discrimination doesn't always exist in america, it
exists in Indonesia too, where there are prejudice that is happening on the natives race and
chinese race and how they categorize each other on their bad traits, but i think globally,
discrimination rates are decreasing.
