A “Special Date” Polynomial Poster Board.

For this project, you will need to pick any date on the calendar, past or future, and you
are going to turn that date into your very own unique polynomial. For example, my son
was born on May 8th, 2015, so I will create a polynomial with these numbers in the
order they are. You will be creating a poster board and presenting it to the class. The
presentation does not have a specific length. You just will need to make sure are
knowledgeable of your poster and go over all the material.
You will need to include the following information on your poster board.
1. Identify the date you are using.
a. May 8, 2015
2. Tell us why you picked that date!
3. List out the digits in order
a. 5082015
4. Create a polynomial with the given digits. This is one example; however, you
could use addition all the way across or subtraction in front of the terms. This is
completely up to you.
a. 𝑦 = 5𝑥 4 + 8𝑥 3 + 2𝑥 2 − 𝑥 + 5
5. You will now need to go onto a graphing website, like GeoGebra and graph your
polynomial.
a. When using GeoGebra, you need to manipulate your above polynomial at
least 2 times. You can do this by changing the signs in between the terms.
i. Pick your favorite one and this will now be the graph that you will be
working with.
ii. Please tell me why you liked this one the best. Did the shape look a
certain way that made you pick it over the other 2 graphs? Simple
answers are acceptable.
iii. You will need to screenshot each of the 3 graphs and their
corresponding equations in order to print them out to display on
your poster board.
6. Once you have picked out your favorite polynomial, you will need to interpret it in
the many different ways that we learned in class during this chapter.

You will need to identify the following:

a. What degree is your polynomial?
b. How many terms does your polynomial have?
c. What is the leading coefficient?
d. What is the domain and range of this polynomial?
e. Describe the graphs behavior?
f. Solve the equation
i. Can you factor this polynomial?
ii. Do you need to use the remainder Theorem?
g. Find the values for x once in factored form.
h. Find the roots of the equation.
i. What are the zeros of this polynomial?
i. Are they real or complex numbers?
j. What do the signs of the terms tell you about the factors?
This is going to take some time, effort, and creativity. This is going to be graded like a
very high quiz score. This is going to show me that you understand the core concepts in
this chapter. You will be graded on the following:
1. Completeness
2. Accuracy
3. Creativity
4. Presentation
5. Spelling and grammar
For a more in-depth grading scale, please look over the rubric below that I will be using
to grade this assessment.
